Outside Man: Part 2
Narrator's P.O.V.:
Ryder woke up in a small room with nothing but two cots inside it. Sitting on the cot next to him was another boy around Ryder's age staring at him.
"Where am I? Who are you?" He asked.
"My name's Matt." The boy answered. "It's been a long time since I had a roommate."
"A roommate?" Ryder was confused.
"Yeah, Mr. Akamu offered to give me a home after my parents passed." Matt frowned. "It's not the best but I didn't have another choice."
"I have to get out of here." Ryder stood up and realized that his arm was hurting bad. "Ow! That hurts!"
He held his arm and set down on the cot again. Matt took an old rag, walked over to Ryder and tied it around his arm.
"That feel better?" Matt asked.
"Yeah, thank you." He nodded. "I'm Ryder."
"Nice to meet you."
"You have to help me get out of here." Ryder begged. "I have to get back to my family."
"No one knows where we are and Mr. Akamu never let's me leave." Matt frowned. "There's no way for us to get out or for anyone else to find us."
"You'll see, my dad will find a way. He always does."
"Hey, when your dad finds you, do you think... he could take me with him?" Matt asked. "It's just that Mr. Akamu doesn't treat me the way he should and... it would be nice to be able to go outside for once."
"Oh yeah, we have plenty of room in the monastery. I'm sure my dad can take you home with us."
"If he can find us." Matt frowned.
"If I know my dad, he won't give up." Ryder smiled.
Lloyd's P.O.V.:
I stormed into Kryptarian and went to my dad and Harumi's cell. I bent the bars and stomped inside and pushed Harumi against the wall.
"Where is he? Tell me now!" I yelled.
"What are you talking about?" She played dumb.
"I know you put him up to this, tell me where he took Ryder right now!"
"Who took Ryder?" My dad asked.
"Her brother." I looked at her.
"What? An uncle can't spend quality time with his nephew?" Harumi smirked.
"What have you done with my grandson?" My dad stepped in.
"I didn't touch him, therefore I haven't broken any rules." She smiled. "Face it greenie, you've got nothing on me."
"I know you're the one behind this. He wouldn't have known about Ryder unless you said something." I didn't let up. "I swear if that kid is hurt you will be sorry!"
"He's tough, I raised him that way." She shrugged.
"Enough stalling, tell me where my son is! Now!" I was growing impatient.
"I don't know, I told him to take him anywhere he wanted."
"Why would you do that?" I asked.
"Because I suspected you would come here and get the truth out of me, so now you'll never find him."
I was about to attack her, but my father pulled me back.
"She's not worth the fight son." He told me.
"But Dad, Ryder..."
"I know, and I want to hit her too but if she really doesn't know anything then this isn't getting us anywhere." He interrupted.
I took a deep breath and calmed down. My ankle hurt from all that walking and I nearly fell over before my dad caught me. Harumi was laughing of course.
"Son, are you alright?" He asked me.
"Yeah, I got into an accident a couple days ago, but as long as Ryder's out there I have to find him first." My ribs began to hurt and I held them.
"Rest son." My dad made me sit down on his cot.
"Dad I don't have time to rest. Ryder could be hurt and if anything happened to him..."
"I know, I'll help you find him."
"How?" I asked.
"I wanted to wait until a better time to tell you, but I got early parole." He smiled.
"Really? How did that happen?" I looked at him.
"The staff has been watching us when you come and talk to me. They were so impressed with how well we were getting along they shortened my sentence to one year on parole."
"That's great news Dad. Now you can help me find Ryder." I smiled.
"Finally you'll stop annoying me." Harumi rolled her eyes.
I looked back at her. "You better hope Ryder's alive or I swear you will not live to see tomorrow."
"Come on son, I have a few ideas." My father said.
"Let's go." I agreed.
We talked to the warden and got my father set to get out of there. A police officer gave us a ride to the monastery. We arrived and walked inside.
"Garmadon?" My mom looked up at him. "What are you doing here?"
"Misako." Dad said to her.
"Look it's a long story, but we don't have to explain." I said.
"Did she know anything?" Kira asked me.
"No, but my dad has an idea where we could look." I said.
"Ow!" Kira yelled and held her stomach.
"Are you ok?" I asked her.
"Yeah, just morning sickness." She said taking a seat on the couch.
"Are you sure? You've been doing that all day." My mother pointed out.
"All day? Why didn't you tell me?" I frowned.
"You have more important things to do now." She said. "I'll be fine, go get our son back."
"I'll stay with her." My mother said.
"Thanks Mom, call me if anything happens."
"I will." She nodded.
"Good luck." Kira smiled.
Kira's P.O.V.:
Lloyd and Garmadon took my keys and left the house. I was in a lot more pain than I let on, but I didn't want Lloyd to deal with anything else today. He had to be focused on Ryder and me going through this would just distract him.
"Kira, it's more than just morning sickness, isn't it?" Misako asked me.
I nodded. "That's why I went to meet Lloyd in the park earlier. I was gonna tell him I had been having contractions all morning, but we got to arguing and then Ryder disappeared and..." I had another contraction and screamed.
"How close are they together?" Misako asked.
"They're about twelve minutes apart." I told her.
"We don't have much time then." Misako picked up her phone.
"What are you doing?"
"Calling Lloyd." She answered.
"No, not yet. He needs to focus on finding Ryder." I said trying not to scream again.
"I don't think we have enough time to wait." Misako said putting her phone to her ear.
"Misako please..." I screamed again.
"Relax, I'm calling a cab to take us to the hospital." She said. "Lloyd can meet us there when he finds Ryder."
"Oh, ok." I took a deep breath as my contraction finally ended. "I hope he'll bring him home safe."
"He always does. Don't worry, they'll find him." She smiled. "Now are you ready to become a mom?"
"Do you think I'm ready to be a good mom?" I looked at my stomach.
"You already are one." She smiled.
"Ok, let's go." I smiled.
Misako helped me off the couch and got me into the cab waiting outside. I was nervous, yet excited to become a mother. I only hoped Lloyd would make it in time.
Lloyd's P.O.V.:
We took Kira's car and went around looking for Ryder. My dad started driving outside of Ninjago City. I thought it was strange but at this point I was willing to try anything.
"Where are we going?" I asked.
"Well when Harumi's brother visited her in prison, she told me all kinds of stuff about him, including where he was staying." He smiled.
"You think he took Ryder there?" I asked.
"I don't know, but it's a good place to start."
"I just hope he's ok." I frowned.
"Don't worry, we'll find him." My dad said.
We arrived at a trailer park on the outside of town. I got out of the car and was about to walk to the door, but my father pulled me back.
"Lloyd wait, if he sees us coming he'll hide Ryder. We have to be smart about this." He said.
"Right." I agreed and tucked behind the car. "How do we know that Ryder's even here?"
"This is where Harumi said her brother was staying. At the very least we'll find some clues to where he took Ryder here."
"Alright, if we want to do this, we'll need backup."
I pulled out my phone and texted everyone where to meet us. Within ten minutes the ninja arrived to help us out.
Zane used his cloaking device to disguise himself as a salesman to get Akamu to answer the door. Once he did, Cole and Kai held him off. Jay gave me a signal to tell me the coast was clear and Nya, my father and I broke through the back door and entered the trailer to search for Ryder.
I took the back room and opened it to see Ryder on the bed sitting next to another boy. The boy had short brown hair and black eyes and Ryder was holding his arm.
"Ryder!" I shouted.
"Daddy!" He stood up and ran into my arms.
"Ryder I was so worried about you." I kept hugging him. "Are you hurt? Let me see that arm."
I took his arm and got a closer look. Touching it was enough to make him flinch, but he could move it. He had broken his arm before when he was living with Harumi, so I was concerned he injured it again.
"Ow daddy that hurts!" Ryder yelled.
"Sorry bud, I didn't mean to hurt you." I apologized. "Let's get you home."
"Can Matt go with us?" He looked at the other boy on the bed.
"I don't know Ryder. With the baby coming we're gonna be pretty busy."
"But we can't just leave him here."
"And we won't, we'll find him a place to stay."
"Ok." Ryder smiled. "See, I told you my dad would come rescue us!"
"Lloyd?" I heard Nya call from the other room.
"In here Nya, I found him." I yelled.
Nya came into the room and the saw the boy sitting on the bed.
"Who is that?" She asked.
"I don't think Ryder's the only kid that got taken by this guy." I frowned.
"What's your name sweetie?" Nya softly approached him.
"M-Matt." He stuttered.
"Hi, I'm Nya." Nya kneeled in front of him. "Are you ok? Anything hurt?"
"I'm ok, I just don't know what to now." He frowned.
"What do you mean? Do you have a family to go back to?" She asked.
He shook his head. "Mr. Akamu is the only person who ever gave me a home, if you want to call it that."
"Well that ends today." Nya stood up. "You can come and live with me and my husband. You'll have your own room and I babysit all the time so you'll have friends to play with all the time."
"Really?" He looked up at Nya.
"Yep, and you can stay there as long as you need to." She smiled.
Matt got off the bed and ran into Nya's arms with tears running down his face. I'm glad Nya agreed to help him because with the baby almost here, Kira and I had our hands full.
"Uhh Nya?" Jay looked in the room.
"Oh hey Jay." Nya looked at him. "Matt here needed a place to stay so I told him he could stay with us."
"Oh, of course he can." Jay smiled.
"Thank you." Matt smiled.
"Anyway, I came here to tell you that we caught Akamu and he's on his way to Kryptarian now." Jay told us.
"You hear that boys? He won't be able to hurt you anymore." I smiled at them.
They both got the biggest smiles on their faces and we all headed home. My father drove the car and Ryder was so tired he fell asleep in the back.
"How are you holding up?" My father asked me.
"Now that Ryder's safe again I'm doing a lot better." I looked at Ryder asleep in the back through the rear view mirror.
"I mean about Kira." He said.
"Kira? Oh, she's been like that for a while. Her morning sickness usually only lasts a few hours so I'm sure she's alright now." I said.
"Well I just figured since she was in labor you would want to be with her."
"What? She's not in labor. The baby isn't due for a couple months." I laughed.
"Well she's an elemental master right?"
"Yeah, of healing why?"
"If both parents are elemental masters, the babies tend to come earlier than normal." He explained.
"How much earlier exactly?" I asked.
"It could be anywhere between four and seven months before she gives birth. It happened with Kai and Nya's parents."
My eyes widened as I realized what was going on.
"Oh man, I'm an idiot!" I facepalmed.
I took out my phone and called Kira. I was worried I had missed the birth of our child.
"Hello?" I heard my mother's voice on the end of the phone.
"Wait Mom? Where's Kira?" I panicked.
"I'm right here Lloyd, you're on speaker." Kira said in between breaths. "Did you find Ryder?"
"Yes, he's safe and Akamu won't be bothering us anymore." I answered. "Are you ok? It sounds like you're out of breath."
"I've been having contractions all day Lloyd, I think this is it." She said.
"Ok ok just stay calm, do you want us to pick you up?" I asked, trying not to panic.
"No need, we're already at the hospital." My mother said as I heard Kira screaming in the background. "We wanted to wait until you got home, but the baby wasn't going to wait."
"Good idea, we're on our way now." I told them. "How many centimeters are we at?"
"We're at eight right now so you still have a little time." My mother answered.
"Ok we'll be there as soon as we can." I said. "I love you Kira."
"I love you too." She said breathing.
I hung up the phone and looked at my dad.
"Is this it?" He looked at me.
"This is it." I nodded. "We need to meet them at the hospital."
"On it." He started driving there.
I looked back at Ryder. I didn't want to wake him up but this was something I know he didn't want to miss.
"Ryder?" I gently said his name. "Ryder wake up bud."
He woke up with a yawn and could barely keep his eyes open.
"Are we home yet?" He asked, rubbing his eyes.
"I know how eager you are to get home, but there's something we have to do first." I told him. "You're about to become a big brother."
"Really?" Ryder smiled, now much more awake. "Let's go right now!"
"Ok, we're heading to the hospital now bud."
"The hospital?" He questioned. "Is the baby hurt?"
"No, that's where babies are supposed to be born son." I laughed.
"Oh ok." He said.
We arrived at the hospital and I took the elevator up to Kira's room while my father waited with Ryder. I walked in and saw a doctor standing at the end of her bed ready to deliver the baby.
"Did I miss it?" I panicked.
"You're just in time, we're at ten centimeters." The doctor smiled.
"I'll leave you to it Lloyd." My mother smiled and left the room.
"Ahh!" Kira screamed.
"It's ok Kira, get ready to push ok?" I held her hand.
She nodded and gave it everything she had. A few minutes later Kira gave birth to our beautiful baby girl.
"Here she is." The doctor gave her to Kira wrapped up in a pink blanket.
"Oh she's beautiful." I smiled at her.
"Ashley." Kira looked at her.
"What?"
"Her name." She smiled. "She looks a lot like my grandmother, Ashley. Assuming you like the name..."
"It sounds perfect." I smiled. "Little Ashley."
Kira had tears in her eyes and wiped her face. She looked exhausted.
"How are you feeling?" I asked her.
"I'm so tired and I can't stop crying but I don't care." She smiled at Ashley. "It was all worth it for our baby girl."
"It's ok, it's normal to be tired after that. you've been at it for hours." I hugged her. "I'm sorry I wasn't here for most of that. I didn't realize today was the day."
"That's ok, the important thing is we get to raise both our kids now." She smiled.
"Yeah." I smiled at our baby girl.
Kira yawned and tried not to shut her eyes. I knew how tired she was.
"Here, let me hold her while you get some rest." I offered.
"I want Ryder to meet her first." She said.
I nodded and sent my mother a text telling her to bring Ryder up to the room. Within a few minutes they entered and Ryder was staring at the baby.
"Ryder, meet your new baby sister, Ashley." I showed her to him.
"Hello." He smiled at Ashley who started giggling at him. "Hey, she likes me."
"Of course she dose." Kira smiled. "I'm glad you're ok Ryder."
"Did you have a doctor look at your arm?" I asked him.
"We did." My mother said. "It's just a sprain and it should be fine in a few weeks."
"Thank goodness." I said relieved.
"Do we get to take her home now?" Ryder asked.
"We have to let your mom and sister rest a little first." I explained.
"Alright." He yawned.
"It looks like you could use some rest too." I rubbed his hair. "It's been a long day for all of us."
"You can say that again." Kira yawned. "But Lloyd, because the baby came so early they want me to stay overnight, just to make sure everything's ok."
"That's fine, I'll stay with you if you want." I offered.
"No no, you've been so busy today and I'm sure you want to get back home." Kira smiled. "Don't worry about us, we'll be just fine."
"Are you sure?" I asked.
"Yeah, a lot of my friends are working the night shift so we'll be well cared for." Kira smiled.
"Ok." I kissed Kira's cheek and kissed my daughter's forehead. "I'll be back first thing in the morning to pick you up both up. I love you both."
"I love you too." Kira smiled.
"Bye Mama K!" Ryder waved.
"See you tomorrow Ryder." Kira giggled.
We all got into Kira's car and we headed home. I was happy that my son wasn't in danger anymore and that my family was not only back together again, but also that we were growing a little bigger.
