More to Life than Surviving: Part 1

Lloyd's P.O.V.:

"Lloyd!"

I woke up to Kira shouting my name. I set up and looked for Kira I didn't see her anywhere.

"Kira? Where are you?" I asked.

"I'm in the bathroom." I heard her shout.

"Are you ok?" I asked her.

"Yeah, but we have a problem."

"What problem?"

She came out of the bathroom wearing her robe and her belly was a lot bigger than it was yesterday. We knew this was coming but we didn't know it would be this soon.

"Oh, that problem." I frowned and started to get out of bed.

We hadn't told the town what our cover story was yet because no one had noticed that Kira was pregnant unless we told them, but now that she was in her second trimester, I don't think we can it hide it anymore.

"What are we gonna do?" Kira looked at me, trying not to let me see the tears in her eyes.

"Relax, everything will be fine." I put my arm around her. "We have a cover story planned out and we'll just tell people that."

"But Lloyd, what happens after people notice we still have the baby after she gets here?" She looked at me.

"Oh, I didn't think that far ahead." I frowned. "What if we say that we..."

"Lloyd I'm sick of lying to everyone about our baby." Kira shouted. "I know you're just trying to prevent what happened with Ryder and keep her and I safe, and I get that, but there's more to life than surviving. I don't want the whole world to think that she isn't our baby because she is and I don't want her thinking anything else but the truth."

I thought that I was doing what was best for our daughter, but Kira was right. There was more to life than surviving and I was an idiot for not seeing that. I didn't see how much this upset her. I had to remember that this was my second kid but this was Kira's first and she had dreamt about this her whole life. As much as I didn't want to, we had to tell the world about the baby. Our baby.

"I'm sorry." I frowned.

"What?"

"I'm sorry I didn't see how much this was getting to you." I frowned. "You're totally right, we shouldn't cover it up anymore."

"But what about Harumi?" She asked.

"My father already told her that you were surrogate, so for now we'll let her believe that." I said. "That will buy us a few months until we figure out something else."

"Ok, but how do we keep her from finding out when the rest of Ninjago knows it's your baby?"

"My dad is still there, he can cover for us." I said. "Trust me, if there's one thing he's good at it's lying."

"So what do you think?" Kira looked at her stomach.

I stood up and kissed her cheek. "I think that you're beautiful and that our daughter will be beautiful too, and the world needs to see it."

Kira smiled and hugged me. This was gonna be hard, or maybe easier since we don't have to hide it anymore, but either way, Kira will be happier now and I think that not keeping it a secret is gonna be easier on our family in the long run. The only thing that I'm worried about now is if we can keep Harumi from finding out.

"Thank you Lloyd." Kira smiled. "This means so much to me. I'm so glad I don't have to lie anymore."

"Yeah, me too." I smiled.

"Oh and Lloyd?"

Kira went to get dressed and then I went to get Ryder up but he wasn't in his room. I looked all over for him but I couldn't find him. I ran into my mom in the kitchen.

"Mom, have you seen Ryder?" I asked her.

"I thought he was still asleep." Mom said.

"I've looked all over the monastery, I can't find him anywhere." I panicked, assuming the worst.

Kira ran into the room. "Did you find him?"

I shook my head. "I've looked everywhere. I don't know where he went."

"I've called all your friends and none of them have seen him." Kira frowned.

"Ok call Kryptarian and make sure that Harumi is still there, I'm gonna take my dragon and go looking around." I said and Kira nodded.

"Lloyd, your shoulder is still hurt." My mother handed me her keys.  "Here take my car."

"Thanks."

I ran out the front door, quickly started up the car and headed all over the city looking for Ryder. It wasn't long until I found him in the city riding his bike. I pulled over and ran up to him.

"Ryder Wu Garmadon!" I screamed.

He stopped his bike and I ran to him and gave him a big hug.

"Ryder you had me worried sick. Are you ok?"

"I'm fine." He rolled his eyes.

"Do you know what could've happened to you? You could've been hit by a car or kidnapped. You can't just run away like that."

"Why not? You do it all the time." He shrugged.

"That's different, I leave because I have to help people who can't help themselves." I explained. "I have to help them when they need me."

"But you never help me when I need you." Ryder frowned. "You're too busy with Mama K and the baby."

I guess Ryder had been getting the short end of the stick lately since we found out about Kira's pregnancy. I had been so busy trying to keep everyone safe that I guess I forgot what was really important, spending time with my son.

"We're going home right now!" I yelled and put his bike in the car.

I got Ryder into the backseat of the car and I drove him back to the monastery. He didn't say a word the whole ride home.

I arrived back at the monastery and I walked in with Ryder in front of me. Mom and Kira were so happy to see him again.

"Ryder why did you run away like that?" Kira asked hugging him.

"Ask my dad." he crossed his arms and looked at me.

"Lloyd?" Kira stared at me, waiting for my answer.

"He thinks that because I go on missions, he can leave the house whenever he wants." I shrugged.

"Now you know how it feels." Ryder mumbled.

"Well the next time something is bothering you, you need to talk to us about it instead of running away and scaring us like that. Ok?" Kira told him.

"Ok." Ryder sighed.

"Ryder, go up to your room and get cleaned up. We have therapy this afternoon." Kira said.

"But I don't want to go." He pouted. "It's so boring there."

"Ryder, go to your room now!" I demanded.

Ryder rolled his eyes and finally ran up to his room. I looked at Kira and sighed.

"Where did you find him?" My mother asked.

"He rode his bike all the way to Ninjago city." I told her.

"I can't believe he did that." Kira frowned.

"It's all my fault." I sighed. "I haven't been spending much time with him and he thought that if he ran away, it might teach me a lesson."

"Maybe it taught you both one?" Kira said.

"What do you mean?" I asked.

"It taught you that you aren't spending enough time with him and it taught him that he needs to come to you the next time something is bothering him."

"I haven't exactly been available to come to." I frowned. "I've been so busy taking care of you and the baby I never have time for him."

"Maybe spending more time with him will fix that." Kira suggested.

"I hope so." I sighed.

I checked my watch and it was almost time for Ryder's therapy session. I went upstairs and knocked on his bedroom door.

"Ryder? Are you ready to go?" I yelled.

"No!" He screamed. "I'm not going!"

"Come on son. We have to be there in 15 minutes."

"No!" He yelled again.

"If you don't come out of that room by the time I count to three, you'll be grounded." I threatened.

"Fine, if I'm grounded, I won't have to go." He snarked.

I sighed. When did he get so smart? I thought I wouldn't have to deal with stuff like this until he was a teenager.

"What if I throw in some ice cream afterwards?"

I know, I know. Ryder hasn't done anything to deserve ice cream today, but I was running out of ideas.

"No!" Ryder screamed again.

"Ok Ryder, what's it gonna take to get you out of that room?" I asked in defeat.

"Take me to see my mom." He said.

I was shocked by this. After everything she did to him, why would he want to see her?

"Ryder, let me in now."

He cracked his door open, but stayed inside his room. I walked inside and set down next to him.

"Ryder, do you know why I never take you to see your mom?" I asked.

"You're afraid she might hurt me again?" He guessed.

"Exactly. So knowing that, why do you want to see her?"

"You're always saying all this stuff about second chances and how people change, so maybe she changed." Ryder shrugged.

"I gave your mother multiple chances and she wasted every one of them." I said. "I'm sorry to tell you this but some people just don't want to change. Especially people like her."

"But what if she did?"

"Trust me bud, she didn't." I sighed. "Just be happy with all the family you have right here who love you and want to give you the best life we can. Ok?"

"Ok." Ryder sighed.

"Now will you please get ready to go?" I asked him.

"Fine." He sighed and put his shoes on.

What Ryder didn't know was that I had a restraining order put under his name after the wedding incident saying that Harumi couldn't go near him. So even if I did want to let him see her, I wasn't allowed to.

I finally got him in the car and drove him to therapy. It had gotten to the point where I could just drop him off and let him go in by himself, because that's what Ava recommended for us to do so he could get more comfortable there, but there was always this feeling in the back of my mind that every time I leave him alone something bad would happen. I was probably just paranoid but it still scares me and what happened this morning was making me extra paranoid.

I watched him walk into the building and then I drove to Kryptarian to visit my father and tell him about our plan. Also after what happened this morning, I had to make sure Harumi was still there.

I arrived at the prison and went inside to visit my father. His trial was coming up in about a week so I had been visiting him more often.

I walked inside and walked up to see him in the visiting area. As I looked at him from behind the glass I noticed a black eye on his face.

"Hello son." He smiled at me.

"Hi Dad. Who gave you the black eye?" I asked as if I didn't already know.

"Who do you think?" He looked at me.

"Of course she did." I rolled my eyes. "Are you alright?"

"Enough about me, what's going on with you?" He asked.

"She tried to get the truth out of you didn't she?"

"She can try all she wants but I'll never tell her. I'm not breaking anymore promises to you son."

"Thank you." I sighed.

"Is something on your mind?" He asked me.

"Ryder's been acting out lately and I don't know what to do." I frowned.

"How?"

"He's been talking back to me, refusing to listen, and this morning he rode his bike all the way to Ninjago City without telling me."

"Sounds like you've got your hands full."

"But what I really don't understand is now, he wants to see Harumi." I frowned.

"And after all I did to you, you still wanted to see me." My dad said.

"That's different, you only did those things because you were bitten by the great devourer and even then you had your good moments. Harumi has never once shown any kind of affection towards Ryder."

"What exactly did he tell you?" He asked.

"He thinks Harumi changed, but we both know she hasn't." I frowned.

"You got that right." My father agreed.

"Hey dad, Kira just reached second trimester so people might start speculating that it's our baby." I winked at him.

"I'll make sure she doesn't believe them." He said.

"Thanks Dad." I smiled.

I checked my watch and it was time to pick up Ryder from therapy. I said goodbye to my father, got back in the car and started driving.

My mind was all over the place. Ryder wanted to see his mom. If I kept saying no, he'd keep acting out, and if I said yes and something happened to him, I'd never forgive myself. I still don't forgive myself for not protecting him at the wedding. Was it my fault he was acting out?

I was so distracted, I didn't see the red light and a car slammed right into me. I couldn't see straight and I passed out...

To be continued...
