Memories of Her

I forgot to add these in the timeline so this one is basically a bunch of flashbacks to get some insight as to what happened with Lloyd and Harumi before the big accident. Ok enjoy.

Lloyd's P.O.V:

I will never forgive myself for what happened to my son. It was not a good time for us, but if I'm going to tell you the story, I have to start from the beginning...

**********Flashback**********

It was a couple years after we had defeated the bringers of doom. Kai and Skylor had a newborn daughter named Amber and Cole was in Nom with Seliel because she had a baby due soon. I had told my team that I was going to Hiroshi's Labyrinth to take inventory for the vault there, but to be honest I just needed to clear my head. I wanted to find someone and settle down like that too, but the only woman I've ever loved was someone who... well you know the story.

I was sitting on the ground when I saw someone moving in the bushes. I was curious so I looked behind them and I couldn't believe my eyes.

"Harumi!" I pulled my sword and backed away. She backed away too.

"Who are you?" She said confused.

"I'm not falling for your little games this time." I scowled. "How did you survive?"

"I... I don't know." She held her head. "I don't remember anything."

"You... you don't remember anything?" I lowered my sword.

"No." She stood up. "I woke up in the city and people kept trying to throw things at me and run away from me in fear. So I ran to the Labyrinth and never looked back."

I had to think about this. If she was telling the truth, then this is a chance for us to start over, I could make her a better a person. But if this was another trick, I don't think I could handle another heartbreak like that.

"Do you remember who I am?" She asked.

"You're name is Harumi." I told her.

"Harumi?" She questioned. "That's quite long."

"Well your friends always called you Rumi." I said.

"Friends? I had friends?" She wondered.

"You've uhh... made a few mistakes, but take it from me you can still make up for them."

"Would you help me?" She asked. "Help me make up for my mistakes?"

"I'd be happy too." I smiled.

I would eat those words in the future...

Four months later...

Harumi and I were dating now and most of her memories were starting to come back, but she was starting to realize what she had done and I was still helping her to become a better person.

We had just gotten home from dinner and I was letting her sleep on the couch.

"Hey Lloyd?" She said. "I need to talk to you about something."

"What is it?" I asked.

"Well it's just that... that couch is really uncomfortable and I was wondering if I could... you know."

"We've only been dating for three months!" I exclaimed.

"I know but I'm just so in love with you." She smiled.

You know what, I'm gonna skip that part. Let's just say that night would change my life for the better in the long run.

One month later...

About a month later, I saw that Harumi was acting weird. She had this cold that wouldn't go away, she was eating almost everything in sight and she had been packing her bags for days like she was planning on leaving for a long time. When I asked her about it, she said she was cleaning, but I didn't buy that.

I did a little snooping and found out that she was pregnant. Then I realized what was going on. She was trying to run away because she was afraid how I would take the news about the baby coming.

Now I see what she was really trying to do. She didn't want me to find out about the baby so she could just leave and never come back. That way I wouldn't even know Ryder existed and I would never get in the way of her plans. Thank goodness I found her pregnancy test as I was taking out the trash, or else Ryder could've been with Harumi his whole life.

The next day I caught her right as she was about to leave.

"Rumi?" I called out to her. "Where are you going?"

"I'm sorry Lloyd, but I just can't be here right now." She sighed.

"I know about the baby Rumi." I crossed my arms. "And I'm ok with it, so you don't have to leave, I wanna raise him or her with you."

"R-really?" She stuttered.

I nodded and she dropped her bags and hugged me. I was so excited to have a baby!

"You know, if we are going to raise this baby together, we might as well get married." I suggested.

"OF COURSE I'LL MARRY YOU!!!" She yelled.

I was so confused, but I went with it.

Big mistake.

We tried to have a wedding, but when no one excepted our invitations, not even my friends, we just got the license and that was that. It was probably for the best anyway, considering Rumi didn't want anybody finding out about the baby, she wouldn't even let me tell my own mother.

That should've been my first red flag, but even if I had seen it, I was pretty much locked in now that Ryder was on the way. There's no telling what she would've done to him if I had seen her games back then.

7 months later...

I was in the hospital with Harumi as she had just given birth to our healthy baby boy.

"What should we call him?" I asked.

"I don't know, just give him a name." Rumi snapped. I figured she was cranky from just giving birth.

"Ok, how about... Ryder?" I suggested.

"Good enough for me." She shrugged.

As time went on, I was the one always taking care of him and Rumi didn't want anything to with him. She would always make up excuses for why she didn't want help. She never changed the diapers, or fed him or played with him or anything. Ryder didn't even breastfeed because Harumi didn't want to and that's why he stutters his words sometimes and he's a lot skinnier than he should be today.

When I tried to confront her about it, she hit me and I ended up with a black eye. After that I didn't want her anywhere near Ryder. But the problem was that if I took him and left, I wouldn't be able to take care of him by myself. I needed help.

No one else knew about him except for Kai, but after what I said to him I doubt he would be willing to help me. I suppose I could tell my mother but we weren't married until after she got pregnant and I didn't want her finding out about that, even though it wasn't my fault. I had dug my own grave, and now I had to lie in it.

There were times where I just wanted to die. It felt like the only way I could get away from it all. But every time I wanted to harm myself, I would just think about Ryder. With Harumi neglecting him all the time, if I left him, he wouldn't make it. That's exactly what she wanted me to do, and I wasn't falling for it. I didn't want to do that to my own son, he was the only thing keeping me alive and I had to take care of him.

One year later...

Ryder was a one year old now and he could walk and talk and do everything. He was supposed to stay in the monastery and never leave. I was too. My friends would send me letters about what was going on in their lives, but Harumi always hid them from me. For food we always had to order groceries online so they never knew that Ryder had been born.

"Dada outside!" Ryder pointed out the window.

"I'm sorry son, but you can't go outside." I said.

"Why?" He looked at me.

"Because you need to stay inside so no one will see you." Harumi walked in on us. "It's the only way to keep you safe."

"But mama I..."

"I SAID NO RYDER!" Harumi screamed. "GO TO YOUR ROOM! NOW!"

Ryder ran to his room in fear with tears in his eyes. I looked at Harumi.

"Don't you think you're being a little too hard on him? He's only one." I said.

"He knows the rules, he has to stay in the monastery to keep him safe." She shrugged.

"He hasn't left the monastery his whole life." I snapped. "If you wanna keep him safe fine, but you gotta let him live a little."

"No! He's not going anywhere!"

"You can't keep him cooped up forever."

"I don't plan to, once he's strong enough to defend himself, then he can leave, but until then he's staying here."

"But he..."

"No buts!" She hit me in the shoulder and pushed me down.

"Ow! What was that for?!" I exclaimed.

"Because I love you, why else?" She rolled her eyes. "You're sleeping on the couch tonight."

Then she just walked into our bedroom and locked the door. I held my shoulder in pain and got up. I had to sleep on the couch that night, but that was fine because I could make sure Harumi didn't try anything.

I snuck into Ryder's bedroom and found him crying in his pillow. I had brought him some food because Harumi sent him there without any dinner.

"Hey bud." I whispered as I shut the door behind me. "You hungry?"

He sat up and nodded. I fed him the apple sauce I got for him and then he was tired so I read him a story and then I put him in his crib.

"Dada?" He said.

"Yes son?" I asked.

"Why Mama so mean?" He frowned.

"Well son, she's been through a lot in her life and she's taking it out on you." I said. "Don't worry, no matter what happens I'll always look out for you."

"You promise?" He looked up at me.

"Promise." I smiled.

I doubt Ryder remembers that because he was so young, but I still couldn't believe that I broke that promise. It was something that I still regret, and sometimes it made me think that Ryder deserved a better father than me.

I put some ice on my shoulder for a few minutes and then tried to go back to sleep, but I couldn't stop thinking about Ryder. He wasn't safe here, he would never be safe as long as Harumi was around. I debated taking Ryder and just getting him somewhere safe away from her, but I knew that she would try to track us down and that would just put us in more danger. Plus my friends weren't talking to me anymore, so I had no where to go.

I don't know what made me stay, but I did, and Ryder payed the price for it. Looking back I should have took him and ran, but I was too afraid.

It only got worse. With each day Harumi got more... well there's no other word for it, abusive.

When Ryder had turned two, I had to go to the store because we were running low on food. I didn't want to leave Ryder alone with her, and she wouldn't let me take him with me.

I decided to go anyway and it would be a quick trip. I quickly went and got we needed, but I ran into Nya as I was leaving. She had two infants in her shopping cart, one boy and one girl, I assumed they were hers.

"Lloyd?" She called out.

"Sorry Nya, I can't talk now. I have get back to Ryd... I mean Rumi." I corrected myself.

"Lloyd you don't look so good." She said as she noticed the bruises on my face. "Are you ok? How did you get those bruises?"

"No time to explain, I have to get home right away." I said panicked.

"I should really take you to the doctor."

"No thanks, I'm good."

"But don't you want to meet..."

"I'm sorry Nya, cute kids, but I gotta go." I ran out the door and rushed home.

When I got back I saw someone on the stairs and it was Ryder. He was holding his arm like he was hurt and he looked scared. I jumped off my dragon and ran to him. He ran in my arms and I picked him up.

"Ryder, are you ok? What are you doing out here?" I asked.

"Mama hurt me." He whined and showed me a large bruise on his arm.

It was so bad it looked dark blue to purplish color. It looked like it was really hurting him too. I didn't know what to do. If he says Harumi hurt him, then I believe him, although I wish I didn't.

"RYDER WU GARMADON!" I heard her screech as she approached us. "What did I tell you about leaving?"

"Harumi. Did you hurt him?" I looked her in the eyes and tucked Ryder behind me.

"Lloyd, I..."

"Yes or no. Did you hurt him?" I asked again firmly.

"Yes but it was an accident." She said. "We were playing rough and I accidentally hit him a little too hard on his arm. Right Ryder?"

"Well I..." Ryder stuttered.

"Right Ryder?!" Harumi gave him a look.

"Y-yes ma'am." He agreed quickly.

Something about that excuse baffled me. Harumi has never once played with Ryder, and he seemed genuinely scared of her. You know it's bad when you believe your two year old son over your wife. I vowed to never leave my son alone with her again.

A vow that would be broken in the future.

"Come on bud, let's get you some ice on that bruise ok?" I picked up my son.

"And you're still punished for going outside." Harumi added.

"Hasn't the boy been punished enough today?" I frowned.

"No." She sniped.

"Ok then will you let me take care of it for once?" I begged.

"Nice to see you finally being a parent." She smirked. "I'm going to bed."

I rolled my eyes and took Ryder back into the monastery. I got him an ice pack for his arm and set with him on the couch.

"Daddy pwease don't punish me!" He begged. "I did not do anything wrong."

"Shh." I shushed him. "It's ok bud, this might sting a little but it'll make you feel better ok?"

He nodded. I eased the ice pack on his arm and he flinched in pain.

"Sorry." I apologized. "Be honest with me, was this an accident?"

He frowned and shook his head.

"Are you lying to me?"

He shook his head no.

"Is this the first time that's happened to you?" I asked.

He shook his head no again and lifted up his shirt. He had multiple scars and bruises all over him. They weren't as bad as the one on his arm, but they looked like they were from a long time ago so maybe they were at one point. I almost cried I felt so bad.

"Were you trying to escape when I found you outside?"

He nodded.

"I promise we're going to do something about this." I told him and pulled him into a hug, being careful of his wounds. "You're not gonna suffer anymore."

It was at that point I realized that something had to change. I couldn't let Ryder suffer like this anymore. I planned to leave for my mother's in the morning. I knew I would have some explaining to do, but I was out of options.

But that morning... was the morning that Harumi played out her big plans and set off the explosion in the monastery.

And you know what happens after that. I couldn't believe my son went through three years of pain and suffering when I promised to make his life better. So I was trying so hard not to disappoint him. I was just glad he could be happy now.
