First Day On The Job
Jay's P.O.V.:
I contemplated going for that job, but I knew the house payment was coming soon and we wouldn't have enough money to pay it. I had to put my family first, so in the end I called the number on the flyer and did a short interview over the phone. They said they were desperate and I got the job.
Today was my first day of my new job. I arrived on the set and I was really nervous about it. They taught me how to carry, fix, and take inventory of the equipment. It was a pretty easy job, but the hard part was avoiding my father. I doubt he would recognize me but I just wanted to be sure.
"Hey you." A camerawoman called to me. "You're the new equipment manager right?"
"Yep I guess that's me." I said. "Is there a problem?"
"No, I just like to get to know the people I'm working with." She said. "I'm Kathy."
"I'm Jay." I shook her hand. "So if you know people you work with, do you know Cliff Gordon?"
"No I wish." Kathy sighed. "The stars almost never talk to the crew unless they need help with something."
"Oh that's good to know." I said. Maybe he wouldn't even notice I was here.
"However Cliff holds this raffle for his employees every Friday and the winner gets to have lunch with him." She explained. "I've never won it though."
"That's nice of him." I said.
"Yeah, well I better get back to work." She said.
"Ok, nice to meet you Kathy." I said.
"You too." She said.
I went back to work until it got to the lunch break. I was a little worried because it was Friday and that meant that the raffle was today. Kathy told me that the employees are automatically entered but I wasn't that worried. There were hundreds of crew members on the set so there was a very low chance that it would be.
I was about to eat my sandwich that Nya made for me, when a security guard came up to me.
"Are you Jay Walker?" The man asked me.
"Yes sir." I said but on the inside I was thinking. 'Please don't fire me. Please don't fire me.'
"Congratulations, you won the raffle. And on your first day too."
'Oh no.' "That's great" I faked a smile.
The guard gave me a ride in a limo with Cliff to a small cafe in the city. It was awkward because neither one of us said a word to each other until we got a table and set down.
"Most fans would be excited to be having lunch with me yet you seem so nervous." He finally spoke.
"S-sorry, I guess I'm just a little star struck." I smiled awkwardly.
"So, you like my movies?" He asked me.
"Y-yeah, I grew up watching you. My kids and I are your biggest fans." I said. Maybe the mention of my kids would get him to tell me the story of what happened to my mother and why they gave me up.
"How many kids do you have?" He asked.
"I have a son and a daughter." I smiled.
"Do you have any pictures?" He asked.
I nodded and searched through my phone for a picture of the twins. I found a picture we took of the whole family at the twins' last birthday party and showed it to him.
"That's my wife Nya, and those are my twins Lily and Jax." I said as I pointed them out to my father. "They just turned four."
"Your kids are very cute." He said.
"Thanks." I smiled. "So I read on the internet somewhere that you had a son?"
"I did, but I don't like to talk about it." He sighed.
"Forgive me for asking, but do you know where he is?" I asked.
That question made him sigh and look me in the eyes. He didn't have to say anything. I knew he recognized me.
"Well if he were right in front of me right now, I would tell him that giving him up was the hardest thing I've ever had to do." He frowned. "I would tell him that I made a huge mistake and that I'm sorry for not being there for him and if there was anything I could do to make it up to him, I would do it in a heartbeat."
"I'm sure if your son heard that he would say thanks for making sure I- I mean he, was left with such nice people." I smiled and winked at him.
"You obviously didn't inherit your acting skills from me." He laughed and I did too. All that awkward energy just flew out of us.
"Hey Dad." I smiled awkwardly.
"Hey son." He smiled and hugged me. "So I take it Ed and Edna told you about me?"
"Something like that." I said. "So I know we just met, but would it be totally inappropriate if I asked you about my mother?"
"Your mother?" He froze.
"Too soon?"
"No no, it's just a pretty sad story." He frowned. "Are you sure you wanna hear it?"
"I'm sorry, but I have to know."
"Ok then, prepare yourself." He began. "Your mother's name was Libber, but her friends always called her Libby. And if I'm going to tell you what happened, I might as well start from the beginning..."

Cliff's P.O.V.:
I was in my twenties and my acting career was just taking off. I wasn't a movie star yet but I had done a few commercials and my agent had booked me an audition for the role of Fritz Donagon in the first Starfarer movie.
I always get hungry before auditions, so I was going to stop by my favorite cafe. On the way over there, I was attacked by a skeleton.
"A skeleton? Did you fight him off?" My son asked.
"Fighting had never been my strong suit, you get that from your mother." I told him. "Anyway..."
The skeleton had me backed into a corner. I couldn't move. I thought I was going to die, but that was when a girl showed up.
"You get away from him!" A blonde haired girl screamed.
Lightning shot out of her fingers and then she used her spinjitsu to scare off the skeleton and had him running away.
"That woman was your mother." I told my son.
"So Mom was the original elemental master of lightning." Jay realized. "I always thought I got that from you."
"No son, you actually act a lot like your mother." I said.
"And stay out you big pile of bones!" She yelled to the skeleton as he ran off. Then she went to check on me. "Are you ok?"
"Yeah thanks." I said as she helped me up. "Who are you?"
"The name is Libber, but you can call me Libby. Everybody does." She said.
"Thank you Libby, I appreciate the help." I smiled. She was so beautiful I completely forgot about everything.
"Did you ever have that deep connection with someone and when you looked into their eyes you knew they were the one?" I asked Jay.
"Only once with my wife Nya." He smiled.
"That was the way I felt about your mother." I told him. "Anyway..."
"Well uhh I was on my way to the cafe before my audition." I told her. "Would you care to join me?"
"Audition? Are you like some big movie star?" She asked as she got really excited.
"Well um actually yes I am." I lied.
"Wait a minute." Jay interrupted. "You told Mom that you were a movie star when you didn't even audition for the part yet?"
"I panicked and it just came out ok?" I raised my voice. "Anyway..."
"Sure. I have some time to kill before I have to meet with the elemental alliance." Libby agreed.
I walked with her to the cafe. We had a nice long chat about our interest and what we did for a living. She was so energetic and full of life, always seeing the positive side of things.
I was so deep in that moment that time flew right by and I had to go to my audition. On the way over there, I thought about how much I loved her and how well we got along. I didn't want what she knew about me to be a lie, so I went to that audition and I would usually choke and screw it up, but this time I just kept thinking about her, and I got the part.
"So if it wasn't for you lying to Mom, you never would've been Fritz Donagon?" Jay questioned.
"Yep, she was my secret weapon." I smiled. "Every time I'm on set or auditioning for a movie I'm always thinking of her. It what keeps me focused."
"Wow." My son said. "Well don't let me stop you, keep going."
"Oh yeah, so it was my first day on the job..." I continued.
I realized how much effort and time my job took away from my social life, but I kept at it and four years later and I was finally done filming my first ever movie, but what people didn't see was what when on behind the scenes.
Libby and I had been on a date every time I got time off from the movie. I invited to her to the premiere where I had asked her to be my Yang.
"Really? How did you ask her?" Jay asked me.
"You know how some studios put scenes at the end of the credits?" I asked and he nodded. "Well I talked to my producers and they added something at the end of the movie. The words appeared on the screen that said "Libby will you be my yang? Love Cliff." It never made into the released version though."
"Wow that's really cool." He said.
"Your mom loved it too." I smiled at the memory.
"So what happened next?" Jay asked excitedly. Wow he was so much like his mom.
After we got engaged, the movie was a huge success and we bought a huge mansion secluded from the rest of Ninjago. Then we got married and it wasn't long after our honeymoon that we discovered Libby was pregnant with you, but the producers wanted me back for the sequel, Starfarrer II: The Rise of a Hero. I couldn't be a good father and still be a movie star so I tried to quit, but I couldn't get out of my contract.
"You were gonna give up being Fritz Donagon for me?" Jay's eyes lit up.
"I wanted to more than anything, but no matter how many strings as I pulled, I couldn't get out of it." I sighed and continued with the story.
About nine months later, I got a call from Libby saying that she had gone into labor so I met her at the hospital and then eighteen hours later you arrived. We were so happy to have our little baby boy.
Over the next few weeks, your mother had to be the one taking care of you almost twenty-four/seven because I was so busy with the movie. It was a system that wasn't working for us. Neither of us ever got a break.
"So is that why you gave me up?" Jay frowned.
"I wish." I sighed. "About a month after you were born, your mother was called on a mission. I don't know the whole story, but I do know that she died saving her best friend's life."
"Who was her best friend?" Jay asked.
"Her name was Eve and she had a son that was a little older than you, but that's all I know." I told him.
"Oh."
"Yeah. Anyway..." I continued.
After your mother's passing, it was always me taking care of you. And in all honesty I was such a lousy father. I didn't know how to change your diaper, or feed you, or get you to stop crying and/or screaming. Plus the movie company was constantly on my tail trying to get the movie back on track. I knew that you would be miserable if you were stuck with a father that couldn't be there for you.
"So how did I end up with Ed and Edna?" He asked.
"I met them at your mother's funeral." I continued.
They were really good friends of hers and they wanted so badly to have children, but they married in their old age so they never had any kids. So I did a little research and figured that they would be better parents than I ever was, so that's when I left you on their doorstep.
I knocked and their door and I watched as Edna brought you into their house. I remember thinking that this is what your mother would've wanted.
"And that's the story." I finished.
I looked at son's face and he was tearing up a little. In all honesty I was too. I missed my wife so much, and it killed me that I had to go without her and my son in my life. This wasn't what she would've wanted.
"If you're mad at me, you can say it." I frowned. "Just know that I will never forgive myself for giving you up."
"I don't know how I feel right now." Jay frowned. "I was all prepared to be mad at you and I had all this anger bottled up inside me and now that I know the full story there's nothing I can be mad at you for."
"Really?"
"Since the moment I found out I was adopted and that you were my birth father, I couldn't believe someone so rich and famous could leave me to be raised in a junkyard, but now I see that it was for the best. I have great adoptive parents, a wonderful wife, two beautiful children and great friends. None of that would've happened if it wasn't for you."
"So you're not mad?" I asked.
"My son's middle name is Fritz, so that's not proof I'm not mad, I don't know what is." He laughed.
I hugged him and smiled. I was so happy I got to see my son again and it made me even more happy to know that I was a grandfather. I was just glad he his life was going so well. Ed and Edna sure did a great job with raising him.
"Hey, you said your kids are fans right?" I asked.
"Yeah they love your movies. It's one of the only things that they never fight over. Why do you ask?" He said.
"How would they like Fritz Donagon to pay them a little visit?" I smiled.
"I think they'd really like that." Jay winked.
Jay's P.O.V.:
I thought that meeting my father would be awkward, but it actually turned out to be the best day ever. My dad and I actually had a lot in common and he wanted to get to know me and my family. I thought it was a great idea.
We finished our day at work and I took him back to my place. I unlocked the door and walked in the house. As usual my kids were waiting for me and greeted me with hugs as soon as I walked in the door.
"Daddy!" Both of the kids exclaimed as they ran up and hugged me.
"Hey kiddos!" I smiled. "I brought home a surprise for you guys."
"Really?" Lily's eyes lit up with excitement.
"What is it? What is it?!" Jax asked, jumping up and down.
"Come on in." I yelled to my dad.
My dad came in dressed as Fritz Donagon and I will never forget the huge smiles on my kids' faces.
"Fear? Fear isn't a word where I come from." My dad said.
"Fritz Donagon!!!" They both exclaimed.
The kids really had a lot of fun playing with my father. He ran around the room blasting each other with toy laser guns and taking down me, because I was pretending to be the Imperial Sledge. Nya was watching and smiling at us from the kitchen and watching us play. I was glad that the kids were bonding with my dad.
