Family Matters
Jay's P.O.V.:
"I want a princess party!"
"I want a Star Farrer party!"
"Princess!"
"Star Farrer!"
"Princess!"
"Star Farrer!"
Yep, it was that time a year again, the twins' birthday party. A week from now our little babies would be turning five years old. It seems like just yesterday when Nya's water broke and I had a panic attack and fainted, but I woke up before they came out.
Nya and I had tried to have another baby about a year ago. Although Nya did manage to get pregnant again, she unfortunately had a miscarriage about two weeks in. I always wonder what our lives would have been like if we hadn't lost the baby, but I guess we'll never know. It was rougher on Nya than it was on me. Even though miscarriages happen all the time, she still blames herself for what happened. I had been trying to convince her to try again, but she said she couldn't risk losing another child, and after seeing her so upset after the first one, I didn't think I could handle it either. Nya and I don't talk about it much.
"Hey kiddos, what is all the arguing about?" Nya walked in.
"I think I know. That means my two little trouble makers are about to get a little older." I laughed and patted their heads.
"How old do we have to get before you stop embarrassing us?" Lily asked.
"Let's see if you live that long." Nya laughed.
"Mom, tell Lily that princess parties are lame." Jax crossed his arms.
"Are not!" Lily snapped.
"Are so!" Jax said again.
"Guys, if you two can't come up with an idea that you both like, your mom and I will have to plan your party." I said.
"But we want to plan our party." Lily said.
"Yeah, we're big kids now." Jax said.
"Then as big kids you have to learn to compromise." Nya said.
"Did you and Uncle Kai have to compromise Mommy?" Lily asked.
"Of course we did sweetie, that's something that brothers and sisters do so that they don't argue all the time." Nya told them. "Speaking of Uncle Kai, you guys need to get ready to go."
"Ok Mommy." Jax said.
"Ok we'll try not to argue." Lily said as she and Jax ran into their bedroom.
Nya and I watched them run into their room. I was laughing but Nya's smile quickly faded.
"What's wrong?" I asked her.
"It's just... a year ago I was pregnant and I remember that we were going to tell the twins on their birthday but then we..."
"I know." I sighed. "But the doctors said it wasn't your fault, that happens all the time and it was out of our control."
"I know it wasn't anything I did, but I can't help but think what life would be like if we didn't..."
"I think about it too." I frowned and took her hands. "But hey, at least we have Jax and Lily. Right?"
"Right." Nya wiped her tears and smiled. "I guess we don't realize how lucky we got with them."
"Oh that's right, we gotta babysit Amber and Blake today." I remembered.
"Oh yeah. We better get over there."
Nya and I got the kids ready and headed over to Kai and Skylor's. We may never have a lot of kids, but we were pretty happy with the ones we got.
Kai's P.O.V.:
It had been a long week for Skylor and I. Things around the house had been extremely busy since the mission. We had told Amber and Blake about their soon to be little sibling and they were so excited, we all were.
Skylor was about 2 months along in her pregnancy so that was also something we had been dealing with. Because we've done this twice already she was pretty used to it by now, but she had quite a lot of morning sickness. We were planning to take Skylor to her doctor's appointment for a quick check up on the baby. She had been monitoring her weight but the numbers weren't quite what they should have been so we were just making sure everything was ok.
The stitches in my side were starting to heal. They still hurt every now and then but it was a lot better than before. It was a good thing I was healing because Skylor had enough to worry about.
"Kai?" She called for me as we walked into our bedroom.
"Yeah babe?" I asked.
"I'm really nervous about this appointment." She frowned. "I'm worried I'm not big enough."
"Every baby comes differently."
"I know but with Amber I gained three pounds by this time and with Blake I gained four. This time I only gained half a pound."
"It's still really early, I'm sure the baby's fine. You're not even in the second trimester yet." I said.
As a father of two, going on three, I know a lot about babies. When Skylor got pregnant with Amber, I read a lot of books on pregnancy and made sure I knew everything so she would have less to worry about, because it was kinda my fault she was pregnant in the first place. This is the third time We've been through this, so I'm pretty well trained at this point. It was kind of weird to me too that Skylor hadn't gained any weight since she eats twice as much. She was doing everything right, so we didn't know what was going on.
"I really hope Dr. Conner doesn't find anything wrong." She looked at her stomach.
"I'm sure everything's fine." I assured her. "We've made two wonderful kids already, this one will be just as good."
I came behind her and kissed her cheek and then her stomach. I finally saw a smile come back on her face.
All of a sudden Blake came running passed us. Blake sprinted across the floor and I swept him up in my arms.
"Whoa buddy, where are you going in such a hurry?" I asked.
"Auntie Nya's Daddy." He answered.
"Actually buddy, your Auntie Nya and Uncle Jay are coming over here." Skylor said.
"Yay!" He yelled.
He kept wiggling until I had to let him go. Then he kept running back into his room. He always loved it when Jay and Nya came over.
"Are you hoping for another boy?" Skylor looked at me.
"Yeah, but another girl sounds pretty good too."
"We'll just have to see." Skylor shrugged.
Later on, Jay and Nya came over with the twins and Skylor and I left for the appointment. I drove because I knew she was nervous about this. To be honest I was a little nervous myself. I told her that everything would be ok, but I didn't know if I was right. The only thing I could do was hope I was right.
We arrived at the hospital and Dr. Conner took us to the back room. He had always been our doctor for both of Skylor's pregnancies and we plan to use him for this one too. We were sitting in the waiting room waiting to be called.
"Kai, I'm nervous." Skylor looked at me.
"Don't be, everything will be fine." I assured her.
"Skylor Smith?" The doctor called us in.
We stood up and followed the doctor into the room. Skylor set down and Dr. Conner put the stethoscope up to her stomach.
"Do you hear anything?" I asked.
"Yes, that's a strong heartbeat." Dr. Conner nodded.
"Thank goodness." Skylor said relieved. "I was kinda scared that he wasn't going to make it."
"Well, the baby does seem to be developing slower than most." Dr. Conner looked at his chart.
"What does that mean?" I worried.
"I assure you it's nothing to be concerned about, it just means that it will take longer for the baby to develop in the womb. It just means that it might last longer than your other pregnancies."
"So that's it? Nothing is wrong with it?" I asked.
"Absolutely not. Just be patient with this one and everything will be fine." Dr. Conner told us.
"Alright." Skylor said relieved. "Thank you Dr. Conner."
"It's no problem." He smiled.
"Doctor, I have a question." I said. "If Amber is getting Skylor's powers and Blake is getting mine, does that mean the baby won't get any?"
"It's very possible that he'll be born without powers, but don't take my word for it. No elemental master has ever had more than two kids." He shrugged.
"Powers or not, we'll love him or her just the same. Right Kai?" Skylor smiled at me.
"Of course." I nodded. "I was just curious."
I really wanted to know if our kid would get powers or not. I mean, it didn't matter that much. Like Skylor said, we would love them just the same, but babies of elemental masters who are born without powers don't have a good chance of making it.
That is what worried me the most. We just have to cross our fingers and hope for the best.
Cole's P.O.V.
Allison and I were having Seliel over for a visit. She had come back from Nom for a few days and she was leaving tomorrow. Allison was not happy about it.
"But Mommy, I don't want you to go." Allison yelled clinging to Seliel's leg.
"All star, you know I want to stay more than anything, but your grandfather can't run things all by himself." Seliel frowned.
"Can't I go with you?" She whined.
"Sorry sweetie, but if you came with me your dad and your friends would miss you too much. Plus I would be too busy to take care of you."
"But I don't want you to go." Allison frowned. "I'm so lonely without you here."
"Well, I can't change that, but I do have something that might make your visit a little easier." Seliel smiled and pulled something out of her bag. "I was going to save it for your birthday, but I think now is a better time."
"What is it?" Allison asked, holding the object in her hand.
"This is a dragon egg." She told her.
Seliel and I had talked about getting Allison a pet. She was definitely happier here than she was in Nom, but she still missed Seliel like crazy. We both agreed that maybe a pet would be enough to take her mind off things for years. I knew it would be a lot of work to take care of it, but it would be worth it if it meant Allison was happy.
"A dragon egg?" She looked at it.
"Yep, and when it hatches, you'll have your own dragon." Seliel smiled.
Allison started jumping up and down with excitement. I quickly took the egg out of her hands before she had the chance to drop it.
"Whoa, careful now cupcake." I said. "If we want the dragon to hatch nice and healthy, we need to take care of it. Ok?"
"Ok Daddy." She sighed.
"Your dad can teach you everything you need to know about dragons, so you better listen to everything he says. Ok?"
"Ok." Allison nodded and hugged Seliel. "Thank you Mommy."
"Aww your welcome sweetie." She hugged her back.
"I'm gonna miss you."
"I'll miss you too sweetie."
She gave her one last hug goodbye and then she took Allison to bed. I took the dragon egg and made a small makeshift nest out of some blankets and towels. It wasn't set to hatch for a couple weeks so we had a little time. Seliel was leaving for Nom around midnight so I stayed up with her until she had to leave.
It breaks my heart every time she has to leave, but I know what she's doing in Nom is really important to her. I hoped that one day things would be different, but until then, at least we could keep our daughter happy.
Zane's P.O.V.
I was in the lab with Pixal going over some things. We were trying to find a way to give my powers to Alex. He had taken interest in my powers recently and he wanted some of his own, but we were not sure how to do it without giving up mine.
"Do you really feel comfortable with giving up your powers?" Pixal asked me.
"I would be willing to give them up for Alex, but there's a lot of risks that come with a power transfer." I explained. "For one thing, we have no idea if it even works between two nindroids. Plus if we give Alex my powers we have no idea what would happen. It could damage his exoskeleton."
"Or it could damage you." Pixal frowned. "Maybe this is too risky."
"But the other ninja's kids have started to show signs of powers. He has to get them eventually."
"Plus ice is an element of creation. If he doesn't get your powers the rest of them will be much weaker." Pixal pointed out.
"But if I give up my powers, it would be harder to train him."
"Maybe my father can come up with a way that you both can keep your powers." Pixal suggested.
"Well it's worth a try." I agreed
"Mom? Dad?" Alex walked in.
"Oh hey Alex." I said.
"What are you talking about?" He wondered.
"Well we were going to talk to Grandpa Borg and see if we can find a way to get you some powers." Pixal smiled.
"Really? I'm getting powers?!" A huge smile appeared on Alex's face.
"We'll see what he can do ok?" Pixal said.
"Ok." Our son frowned.
"We'll find some way to get you powers. Don't worry."
"Thanks Dad." He hugged me.
The last thing I wanted was to hurt Alex, but he needed to have his powers eventually. Hopefully Borg would find a way.
