"Come on, Kai! Let's go jump waves!" Kaila smiled at me, gently tugging my arm. I was at the beach with the rest of the ninja and Kaila. 

Unfortunately, Kaila didn't know about my fear of water. I gulped.

 Thankfully, Lloyd was listening and came to my rescue. "Why don't we have a sandcastle competition first? We can jump waves later." 

Kaila nodded, but I saw her glance at the sea. I felt a bit guilty. Kaila would probably throw herself off a cliff if I wanted her too. She's that  nice.  

We split off into groups; Zane and Lloyd, Jay and Nya, me and Kaila. Cole decided to stay up with the food, probably sneakily nibbling it.

Kaila grabbed a bucket and a spade. "Come on, Kai. Let's go and get the wet sand near the sea. We can make a better sandcastle with that." 

As we approached the water, a wave slid over the sand. It wasn't a very big one, but I jumped back even so. "Kai?" said Kaila. I backed away. 

"Maybe you should just get the sand. I'll go collect some shells." 

She looked at me, but then nodded and started shoveling wet sand into the bucket as I scrambled up the shore.

I sighed as I picked up a shell. It was so unfair. Why was I afraid of water? What kind of stupid phobia is that? I'm probably going to keep avoiding the sea until we go home, and I would deprive Kaila of what she had been looking forward to. 

Suddenly, a small glint caught my eye. I found a small turquoise and silver shell. I smiled. Kaila would like this.

Then Kaila came hurrying up with a bucketful of sand. 

We got Cole to vote on our sandcastles. Jay and Nya's was just a lump of sand sprinkled with some shells, but they had fun anyways. Zane and Lloyd's was a three-tiered sandcastle topped with a spiral seashell. But when Cole came to me and Kaila's, his jaw dropped open. 

Our sandcastle was shaped exactly like a real castle. Each tower was edged with small pink and white shells and was topped with a large orangey-pink shell like a flag. It even had a moat still flowing with water. 

"We have our winners!" Cole said, holding me and Kaila's arms up. Kaila grinned at me. 

"Hey guys, why don't we go swimming? It'll be fun." Kaila said. 

"Actually, why don't we eat first?" Cole budged in. Kaila shrugged. 

So we ate first. There was egg sandwiches, chocolate eclairs and a bottle of Fanta. I nibbled a sandwich, worrying. How was I going to keep avoiding the water?

"Let's go into the sea now!" Kaila said. 

"Umm.... why don't we have some ice cream first?" 

"But we just ate." 

"Well.... I just really want some ice cream!"

"Okay..." Kaila looked longingly at the sea but followed me to the ice cream stand. 

As we licked our ice creams, Kaila looked at me. "Kai, you've been acting kind of weird....you've been avoiding the sea the whole day."    

I looked at my feet. "Kaila, are you sure you won't laugh at me?"

"Kai, I would never laugh at you." She looked at me with her big brown eyes and I knew I could trust her.

"Well...I'm...I'm...I'm kinda afraid of water." 

Kaila took my hand. "Kai, why didn't you tell me? We could've gone somewhere else instead."

I shook my head. "No...I knew how much you liked the sea. Look, why don't you go without me?"

"But I want to go with you, Kai." 

I sighed. I really wanted to go, for Kaila's sake. "Alright. I'll...I'll come with you." 

We ran hand in hand down to the sea. I shuddered as I took a step in, but I got used to its wet warmth. The waves stopped crashing viciously and started to gently lap against my legs. Kaila smiled at me. 

We started jumping around, splashing and having lots of fun. I took her hands and whirled her around, droplets of water flying around all of us.

Suddenly, Kaila pulled me close. Our lips touched...

And the rest of the ninja smirked back up the shore.
