"Kai! are you ready to go yet?" Nya yells up the stares as said teen walks back into the house from the garage.

"Dude, I've been in the car for the past five minutes," he replies, grinning as she blushes, in anger or embarrassment he wasn't sure, "So if you are done screaming at me we should get going."

"Stupid hothead," is all she mutters as she grabs her keys from the hanger next to the door, "We are picking up Jay and Skylor on the way. I promised her a ride since she has our group project which means you and Jay get the back so we can talk about the possibility of-"

"Yeah, yeah," he interrupts, " So you two can nerd talk about the project. I get it."

She rolls her eyes as she hops into the driver's seat and starts the engine; she backs up quickly eager to pick up their two friends. Comfortable silence fills the air as they drive towards their first stop until Kai's slightly shaky voice interrupts it, "I'm going to try to confess to him today."

"Really?" Nya asks raising her eyebrow as she looks at him in the rearview mirror.

He nods, "I can't stand how awkward things have been since the whole public announcement and shipping stuff. He seems really uncomfortable but I have to know if he actually feels anything towards me. If he doesn't then we will be on the same page and can set everything completely straight with the public without any hard feelings, but If he feels the same way I do I'm going to ask him out."

"Alright," she replies, smiling slightly, "This all was so much easier when our identities were a secret. Back then we never had to deal with all of the publicity, we should never have done that interview."

"No," he interjects, "The interview was a good idea, but taking those stupid love test things were not a good idea. I mean come on they were clearly not right, because how could Cole be your ideal match but also Zane's, while he matches up with Zane himself?"

"True, they completely failed to realize that I'm a lesbian," she giggles, "at least you were matched with someone you can at least like."

Both teens laugh as they pull into Skylor's driveway and she hops into the car before Nya even stops, "Move it Smith! My dad is pissed and thinks that you two are delinquent "insert f-word"s so you need to hightail it!"

Eyes wide Nya practically floors it outta the driveway, ignoring Kai's scream of protest as he slams against the seat. Fortunately, she eases on the gas as they pull around the corner and head towards Jay's. Kai glances out the window at the familiar scenery as they move slowly towards the Walker residence. He knows that as soon as they pull into the driveway Jay is gonna run out of the house, wearing his normal sweater and scarf, then hops in the back and apologize like he was late. He did this everytime they picked him up. The brunette glances over at the house as his sister slows to a stop, and his breath catches in his throat. Sitting on the porch are Jay and Lloyd, and Kai looks away blushing as the two make their way over to the car.

"Hey, Nya, sorry about not asking before but can Lloyd ride with us? He stayed over last night so we could be ready for a bio test today, and I, uh, forgot to ask you if he could ride with us to school," Jay gushes as he looks over at her through Skylor's open window.

"Yeah, sure, you know I can't say no to you two," she mumbles as Skylor pats her knee comfortingly.

"Thanks, Nya, you're the best," they say in unison as they clamber into the back seat, "hey, Kai."

Kai waves at the two as he stares out the window, feeling a warm body press against his side, knowing it wasn't Lloyd, who is always cold.

"What's with the, uh, get up?" Skylor asks glancing back at Jay who was lacking his usual scarf and baggy sweater in favor of an unusually form fitting black shirt and navy flannel.
"I uh lost a bet with Cole and have to wear quote unquote attractive person clothes for a week" Jay grumbles.
Nya and Skylor outright laugh at  their friends childish pout but Kai remain quiet as a dark blush spreads over Jay's frecked face. Fortunately for Jay's pride a gentle silence soon fills the car as they move twords the highschool.

Almost instantly when they climb out of the car all eyes are on them, even though they had saved Ninjago there were still those who hated them at school for petty things.

"Hey, nerds," Cole calls out from his place on the half wall next to Zane, "You're cutting it pretty close,"

"Hey boulder brain! Hey Zane," Jay calls out, sticking his tongue out at the noirnette.

"You really need to work on getting here earlier," Zane states, hardly glancing up from his book.

"Yuppers," Lloyd remarks, grabbing his phone from his pocket to play RUA2.

Cole opens his mouth to comment only to be cut off by the bell, leading to the group quickly scattering to get to their lockers and then classes. "See ya'll at lunch.

Kai smiles as Jay walks over to their table, before he exclaims something totally out of the norm for him"I cannot believe how shallow everyone at this school is! We save Ninjago no less than six times and all people want to do is know if I'm dating Kai, how the Nya-Cole-Zane "love triangle" is going and why none of us are freaking straight! Like what the actual heck!"

Kai blinks in confusion at the boy's short outburst of anger, a price of paper stuck in his messy curls, "uh Jay you've got something in your hair,"
"Huh" is all Jay says when Kai gently pulls the paper out and unfolds it, "It says "Why haven't you and Kai talked about being a match yet? Love NYA WHY DID YOU WRITE THIS?"

"Your two need to talk about what happened. I'm sick of listening to both of you whine about your crushes on each other. Woman up and just admit everything. " She says setting her tray next to Skylor and across from Kai
To noones surprise it is Kai who speaks up first"We don't need to talk about anything! We both know it was just a stupid love test that didn't factor in how the real world works! I don't want you meddli-"
A loud crash echoes through the room as Jay's chair clatters to the ground and the ginger runs out of the room in a hurry. Everyone barely missed the dull sparkle of tears in his eyes, but even if none saw them for sure they knew they were there.

Kai freezes as Cole and Zane send icy glares his direction,"why did you do that; you know how he feels. If you weren't interested you could have just said so. It took him weeks to finally get up the confidence to dress up today to finally able ask you out and you do this before he even got the chance." Zane is still lecturing as Kai bolts out of the cafeteria to follow Jay.

Kai slams open the bathroom door, trying to ignore the stabbing guilty feeling in his chest as he listens to his friend cry,"Jay we need to talk."
"Go away! I get it! You aren't interested in me! You don't need to run salt in the wound!"
"Jay, why wouldn't I be interested in you? You're incredible, and kind and smart and you do this thing with your nose when you get frustrated and it's so cute and I'm off topic." Jay giggles slightly, as Kai presses his forehead against the stall door, " I do feel the same way; I just didn't want to put you on the spot and my words were way harsh and not cool. Please, don't cry."
He shifts back as the stall lock clicks and it swings forward to reveal a beaming blue ninja. Kai yips as a hand reaches out and drags him into the stall. The door slams behind him as he finds himself in a position he never expected, pinned to a door by Jay  Walker, the blue ninja, the one boy on the team shorter than him by more than three inches. He opens his mouth to speak but is silenced by a pair of lips meeting his own. The kiss is electrifying, like a million tiny fireworks dancing in his head, but quick as it began it is over.
"Sorry, I really wanted to do that," Jay says with a gentle laugh, wrapping his arms tightly around Kai's chest, "We should probably go back to lunch before Nya sends Lloyd looking for us."
Kai blinks once, still trying to come to terms with what just happened.
"Yeah"
Despite this he wraps his arms around Jay keeping him in place.
They can wait a few minutes.
