Kai sighs as he walks into his office dropping his coat on the back of his chair and flopping into it. It had been a long day out in the field, and he still had a bucket load of paperwork to do before he could go home. Shaking his head the brunette cracks his knuckles and begins typing about his most recent capture of a common thief, a rookie who got himself cornered. A laugh escapes him as he remembers the man's look of complete 'oh s**t' when he and Lloyd had run into the alley after him. Once again shaking his head he trying to force himself to get back on track, unfortunately for him, fate had other plans.

"Officer Smith?" A man says opening his door,"The boss wants to talk to you. He says it's important, and that Officer Montgomery and the rest of your team will be taking over your paperwork."

Nodding Kai stands, swiftly grabbing his folders off his desk to give to the younger officer and grabbing his jacket. He hands the papes over to the younger officer who practically sprints away before walking to Captain Wu's office.

Kai goes to knock but a voice interrupts him."Come in Kai, the door is unlocked."

"Good evening, Kai, I hear today was rather rough. Would you like some tea?"The young man can't help but smile at the elder man's greeting and sits across from the man.

"No thanks, Master Wu." He grins at the elder, "I heard that you wanted to see me."

"Indeed, we have a new case that I would like  for you to tackle." He pushes a folder over the desk for Kai to take. "This is Jay Walker. He is part of a crime team that has been conning wealthy men and then the money disappears before we can trace it. I want you to apprehend him before any more damage is done. You can take the file and call it a night."

The brunette nods curtly, as he picks up the thin paper folder and walks out grabbing his satchel on the way. Normally, he would stay to talk, but he was just too drop dead tired and opted to instead just go home. Kai keeps his head down as he walks home deciding to go over the information in the morning. The wind blows softly as he walks in the dim light cast from lamp posts an unusual eerie quiet hangs in the air setting the officer on edge. A sudden bang breaks the fragile silence causing Kai to whip around his hand moving instinctively to his gun. Sighing he notices the garbage can lid that was lying on the ground rattling, but as he spins around he comes face to face with a man.

The man smiles up at him as his hand settles on the handle of his gun."Sorry, did I scare you?" 

"Heh, a bit," Kai admits feeling an unexplainable ease around the shorter man.

"Hehe, I'm just glad you didn't shoot me." he giggles his electric blue eyes locking with the brunettes amber ones. "I was walking home and saw you alone too, and thought hey I hope nothing bad happens to this cute guy while he's walking cuz this area can be pretty scary, but it seems like you can protect your covered. "

 A light blush reaches Kai's face as the man talks."Yeah, I'm fine. I only have a few blocks left to walk anyway."

"Alright officer," the ginger jests before beginning to walk across the street, "See ya 'round."

Kai waves to him before walking the final few blocks to his apartment, suddenly feeling alive and buzzing with energy. There was no way he was sleeping now, so instead, he grabbed his case file and tossed it onto his desk for further analysis.

Kai groans at the lack of information and flips to the next page this guy was good, maybe too good. He spots familiar electric blue eyes as he scans the page, but not only does he see his eyes but he also spots another pair he could recognize anywhere, Lloyd's. His crimson orbs stood out from the green costume he had adorned for what appeared to be a three to four person heist job. There was no way his friend of four years was involved with this con group. Passing it off as his exhaustion making him delusional he stood from his desk and closed the file. He could deal with that tomorrow, and maybe as the crimson eyed boy a few questions on their break. taking one final glance at the file, he changes and climbs into bed for a long deserved slumber.

Mumbling incoherently, Kai smacks his alarm clock in a feeble attempt to shut it up; he loved his job but hated the morning shifts with a burning passion. Sitting up unhappily Kai begins his daily routine, stopping periodically to stare at the file Wu had given him. There was no mistaking those eyes, Lloyd had something to do with the most recent string of vigilante-style crimes in Ninjago. There was a re-occurring theme with the victims, always a rich target who had done a notably bad thing that had often resulted in death or hospitalization, but who also was out of reach of the police due to legal complications. It was some real robin hood type s**t, exactly the kind of thing Lloyd would get involved in to help others. Their team appeared to be a hacker, a grifter,  two hit men, and a mechanic, so at least two other people were involved in these heists. The hacker could most likely double as the mechanic so he would need to begin his search with someone with a background in robotics, computer programing, or software development based on the nasty viruses that were used at each job to fry and cripple their hard drives. As for the other hitman, it would be best if he started with men who were known for similar crimes, with possible military or police service.

"Good morning Kai," Wu declares as the young man walks into the precinct,"I see you are taking this investigation seriously."

"Of course, Captian, I value the safety of everyone in the city," Kai absentmindedly says adding a few more notes to his notebook and scrolling further through his Borg phone criminal database, "But on an unrelated topic, have you seen Lloyd. He has some of  my paperwork and criminal notes that I need back."

"Ah young Lloyd called in sick this morning, but if you believe you need those papers for your investigation you are more than welcome to  go retrieve them." Wu pours more tea into his glass. locking eyes with the hothead for the first time.

"Thank you, I believe those notes will aid me greatly in this case."

Lloyd huffs as he slouches down on his door, "Are you sure Kai will show up.  Wu hasn't even told me whether or not he even gave him the case files yet."

"He did," Cole says confidently, pushing some of his hair out of his eyes, "Wu is not one for "putting off for tomorrow what could be done today" anyway."

"He is correct you should stop worrying so much about what Wu did and come help us plan our next move. Assuming we can get Kai's aid we will be able to get past level one and two of security in Selleton Inc. Then from there we need you to distract the guards while Jay and Coel slip through into the third level where Jay and I can hack into fourth. Which is when Jay will use our flash drive  to transfer the files back to me." Zane rants not looking up from his computer screen.

"Okay, but why do we need Kai?" Lloyd asks, half afraid to get his friend involved in his team.

"We need another invite, Zane has one from Wu, and you have one for you and a plus one, but that still leaves one of us without an invite," Jay chimes in, playing with a  fidget spinner.

lloyd open his mouth to respond but he is cut off by a knock on his door. "Lloyd! It's me, Kai! I need to talk to you, and it's really important to this ne- I mean me. It's really important to me and you are the only person I can talk to now."

"Go now,"Jay whisper-shout pointing at the window, "I can get him pinned down to talk to us if you guys get outta here." 

Lloyd looks hesitant but follows the other two boys out the window and down the fire escape, leaving Jay sitting on the sill alone.

"Lloyd I need you to open up right now or I will have to open this door with force!" Kai yells from the other side of the door.

Laughing Jay yells out a quick 'It's open" before hopping onto the fire escape a floor below him and bolting down, ignoring Kai's angry screams. Jay's body twists and turns as he dives down alleys and ducks through doors knowing full well that Kai is still only a few paces behind him. Jay glances to his right and spots the samurai helm on the wall and stops quickly diving to the left to avoid Having Kai crash into him.

"Where the h**l is Lloyd," Kai pants, glaring threateningly at the ginger.

"Don't worry, he's fine," Jay states dodging a punch and kneeing Kai in the stomach, "I would never hurt a friend, but by now I'm sure you know all about me-" another dodge"- All the bad things I've done."

jay grins as Kai pants before charging back towards him, fueled by rage. Jay knocks his hand upward grabbing it and throwing him against the wall. A groan escapes the policeman as he slumps to the ground.

"Sorry bout that," the other man says crouching in front of the hothead,"It's kinda an instinct by now. Anyway, we need your help, and if you are willing to meet us in two hours I will explain everything. You have the address on your phone. Z sent it after he left. I promise you we are not the bad guys."

Innocent eye locked with fiery amber ones as the ginger smiled at him. There was no denying the fact that Kai believed every word he said. He trusted the man he knew was a con artist, he was playing with fire, flirting with electricity.

"See you soon, cutie," Jay says pressing a swift kiss to the other cheek before dashing off and jumping into the back of a black van.

There was no turning back now, he was in for the long hall. That day was the birth of a new vigilante and a new found romance; Kai would never complain about either. That day was his new beginning.
