Chapter Twelve

A/N: I don't know what I'm doing anymore, so I apologize for about everything from this chapter on out

IT'S AUGUST 21ST!

HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAPPPYYYYY FAN FICTION WRITERS' APPRECIATION DAY!

Shoutout to y'all who spend every waking minute of every day writin' stuff instead of 'doing something to contribute to society'

Quoting Mr. Robot:

F-Society

Which is a legit thing, but it really stands for Fun Society

I swear

Anyhoe:

Lizz thwacked the back of his head, "Be more specific!" she huffed over Kai's groans of pain, "What did he tell you?"

Kai was still rubbing the back of his head, wincing, "Ow! Ronin just told me about Sensei Yang's Haunted Temple, damn!"

"Sensei who now?" Jay asked.

Zane then proceeded to jump into a long, bass-ackwards explanation about something--probably about Sensei Yang, though no one understood him. Cole put his hand over Zane's mouth, "We can't understand you, bud. Save your energy for when we can understand you, 'kay?"

Zane nodded and Cole took a deep breath, "What did Ronin tell you was in the Temple?."

"He didn't say," Kai ran a hand through his hair, "Just told me there's a way in there to learn Airjitzu."

"How exactly would he even know that?" Lizz snorted, but then turned to Cole and didn't hear the rest of the conversation that ensued, "You need to be checked out. You've probably got so many broken bones because of that fall, and most likely a concussion, too."

"I'm fine," Cole brushed her off.

Lizz smacked his shoulder, "You're getting checked out. We can't have our designated leader for tomorrow dying because he got bone marrow in his blood."

"Let's just catch a train out of here," Kai interrupted Cole's retort, walking towards the dock that led back to the mainland, "We need some place for Jay and Lizz to fix Zane."

"Actually, Jay's probably focusing more on Zane, since I have to make sure butthead back there doesn't have anything broken," Lizz told Kai, falling in step beside him, "Then I'll go monkey with Zane, you know? But, he's the better tinkerer between us, so he's more trusted."

**

"Welcome to Yang's Haunted Temple!" the tour guide beamed at them. Lizz was squinting against the bright sunlight, wrinkling her nose in disgust; at both the sunlight and the peppy tour guide, "The historical landmark and the former home of Sensei Yang," everyone's attention averted to the mossy steel statue--similar to the one of Zane in NinjaGo Square--and began taking pictures of it, "The notorious Sensei without a pupil. Infamous for creating the lost martial art of Airjitzu," there was a chorus of noises of awe, "Unfortunately, we can't take our tour groups inside, for rumours say, anyone trapped inside it's walls at sunrise will be turned into a ghost. Permanently! But if you listen closely, maybe we'll be able to hear the ghost of Sensei Yang himself, looking for his lost pupils!"

"Can we leave yet?" Lizz hissed at Cole, who'd taken the lead for the day, as promised, "We know where it is, we can just come back tonight!"

"We're not leaving," Cole sassed, crossing his arms, "Just ignore the guide's happiness."

Lizz narrowed her eyes, "I don't think I quite like your tone-"

"I HOPE IT'S NOT A RUMOUR!" Zane shouted, interrupting her, "FOR IT'S OUR ONLY HOPE!"

Cole looked sheepish at the staring people, "Uh, sorry about my loud friend," he apologized, "He's a little hard of hearing."

"He's not just your friend," Lizz mumbled through clenched teeth. Cole pretended not to hear her and led the group back into the tour.

"Known," the guide grit her teeth, turning back to the Temple, "For his unusual teaching methods..."

Lizz turned her out and tuned Kai in, "I thought you said you fixed him."

"At least he's no longer talking backwards," Lizz narrowed her eyes.

"I guess our tinkering got his volume level stuck," Jay laughed it off a little bit.

Zane leaned in closer to Cole, "AT LEAST YOU CAN UNDERSTAND ME NOW!" Cole leaned away, wincing horribly.

The tour guide seemed really ticked off at them, "Dating back to the Edo Period..."

"From now on," Cole told Zane, "Only speak if you have something really important to say, alright?"

"Who put you in charge?" Kai asked casually, as a legitimate question, it seemed.

"I did," Cole told him, "After you guys mucked it up, it's my turn to be in charge. And like me, I like my plans simple. We sneak in, learn Airjitzu from the ghost of Sensei Yang, and get out before sunup."

"Since Morro already knows Airjitzu, we just have to hope he hasn't figured out the next clue," Kai told them lowly.

"Well the sun is setting, so we should head back to the bus," the guide was leading the group back to said bus. Wouldn't want anyone to turn into a ghoooooooost!" she sang.

The bus drove away and Lizz somersaulted out of the bushes--by accident, "Cole!" she growled, standing up, "What the hell did you do that for?"

He stepped out, rubbing his side, "You just kicked me!"

"Yeah, well you were the one that grabbed me to begin with," Lizz quipped back, her nostrils flaring.

"I grabbed you so no one on the bus would see you! That's no reason to kick me in the ribs!" Cole stepped closer to her, so they were chest-to-chest now. He still had about four inches on her; he was still so much bigger than her, "The ribs that I just got wrapped up by you!."

Lizz squared her shoulders and stood at her full height, her fingers curling, itching to punch him, "Brookstone, I won't hesitate to punch you in the face."

"Garmadon," he growled, "I would love to see you try."

Zane was the one to push them apart, "GUYS WE SHOULD NOT BE FIGHTING. WE ARE A TEAM!"

"He's got a point," Kai gently took Lizz's wrist and slowly pulled her away from Cole, standing a good ten feet away, "Fights don't decide who's right-"

"They decide who's left," Lizz took her arm back from Kai, crossing her arms over her chest.

"WHAT ARE YOU TWO FIGHTING ABOUT? WHATEVER IT IS, WE NEED TO RESOLVE IT BEFORE WE ENTER THE TEMPLE."

"Gah," Kai was rubbing his ears, going to stand by Lizz, "You two really need to fix his volume level."

"Jay can," Cole took Lizz's wrist, "We need to have a little chat, because Zane's got a good point. Don't follow," without permission from Lizz he dragged her off, far into the weeds.

"Brookstone," she dug her heels into the dirt and pulled her arm free, "What the hell do you want now?"

"I want to know why we're fighting to much," he spun back around to face her, folding his arms over his chest, "What's your problem?"

Lizz's eyebrows went up, "My problem? I'm not the one picking fights all the time, Brookstone."

"My name," Cole started, "Is Cole. Not Brookstone. And this is exactly what I'm talking about! What's wrong with us?"

"We're not telling each other everything like usual, that's what's wrong with us," Lizz crawled up a tree and sat on a branch before slipping so she was upside down.

Cole moved over to her, "What aren't you telling me?"

She closed her eyes a little bit and sighed, "I'm in an emotional pickle, 's all. Nothin' special," when she opened back up her eyes, Cole was closer than before, "What are you hiding, then?"

"Same thing as you, it seems," still he was inching closer, so now their noses bumped slightly, "Emotional... pickle..."

Cole didn't let her answer. Instead, he quickly pressed his lips to hers, twisting his hands in her hair. Lizz reciprocated the kiss with a little more fervor than expected. Cole bit her lip slightly then pulled away, "No more feelings."

"I have no feelings," Lizz flipped out of the tree and landed in a cat crouch. She stood and turned back around to face Cole, "About anything 'cept for Kai. So..." she attempted to find the right words, "Don't... do that again..."
