Chapter Ten
A/N: K, I tried to take a break, I really did
But I kinda couldn't control myself cuz I really like NinjaGo
The boys took a more than a few moments to help Ronin fix his nose; Kai and Cole had to hold him down while Zane reset it. Jay was off towards the door, outside of which Lizz was pacing like a caged panther.
"Jay, you can let her back in," Kai told him, handing Ronin a cloth for his still bleeding nose.
"That's the fourth time you've had to reset his nose," Jay told him, "Do you really want to do it a fifth?"
"I do believe Lizz has calmed down enough not to attack Ronin if she sees him again," Zane chimed in, "She is as important to this mission as the rest of us and needs to be here."
"Is no one going to ask my opinion?" Ronin snapped, his deep voice slightly clogged, "I don't want that maniac in my shop anymore!"
"Hey!" Kai snapped, pointing at Ronin, "You're the one that kidnapped her and sold her like a sick human-trafficker! You're lucky that I don't-"
"Kai," Cole held out his arm in front of Kai, a warning to calm down, "Cool it. You're just as hot-headed as Lizz is. We'll have to put you out there with her if you keep it up."
Speaking of Lizz, she was now back inside, standing behind Jay--almost using him as a shield, "Lizz?" Jay addressed it.
"I'm staying behind you in case I jump at him again," she grit out through clenched teeth, glaring directly at Ronin, "How's your eye?" she meant the one under the eye patch, not the black one she'd just given him.
"Half there, no thanks to you," he snarked, "Now why are you guys all here? Surely it can't only be to let your guard dog break my nose five times," Ronin paused, "Hey, wait, if this is about our last encounter, i-it was only business."
Kai started stepping around Cole's arm to inch towards Ronin, "You left us in the mouth of a-"
"Yeah... so you're still upset," Ronin pulled the cloth away from his nose slightly, wiping at the blood caked in his facial stubble, "Lemme make it up to you," he leapt behind his desk and pressed a button with a triumphant laugh. A net came down from the ceiling and caught absolutely nothing. After a slight moment of uncomfortable silence, Ronin gulped, "Uh... that was a mistake, I-I can explain that."
"Ugh," Cole rolled his eyes, "Nothin' here is legit. Including you."
"Yeah," Jay moved to the desk, ducking half under the net and lifting it up to look better at Ronin, "I bet your airship's not far, either. Uh... what do you call it again? Rylo? Ruby?"
"Rex," Lizz growled from her corner, "Damn thing..."
"Can you have a little sympathy?" Ronin turned around and began feeling up the shelf behind him, "Sold her so I could buy this place."
"Doubt that," Lizz scoffed, "No one would buy that after-"
"You ripped apart the dash," Ronin finished, "You know, you were a very destructive three year old."
"That happens when you take someone against their will," Kai mumbled.
"Look," Ronin turned back to face them, his hands on his hips, "I'm trying to make an honest living, alright?"
"Honest living?" Kai mocked, "Honest enough to steal the Scroll of Airjitzu?"
Ronin tossed aside his bloody cloth, "The Scroll of Whoatzu?"
"Airjitzu," Jay snapped, banging his fist on the desk, "It can make a Spinjitzu Master fly!"
"Yeah!" Cole lifted up something--Lizz couldn't remember the name of it--and waved it above his head, "So hand it over, or we can make you fly!" for emphasis he took the thing in his hand and threw it against the nearest call where it splintered into pieces.
"Whoa whoa," Ronin waved his arms a bit, "Calm down fellas--and lady," he added emphatically at Lizz, "Even if i had such a thing, it sounds pretty old and important.... Definitely not something I'd keep on sight," he was moving about the room now, wringing his hands, "And definitely too much for you to afford," he was standing by the shelf of various weapons Lizz had been by when she first walked in, "Maybe I can interest you in some unique weaponry? I got Jade Blades, Obsidian Armour," he turned around brandishing said things.
"Have anything that can vanquish ghosts?" Zane questioned quickly.
Ronin hummed, putting the things in his hands back, still facing the wall as he spoke, "Hmm... ghosts you say..."
"Yeah," Cole stepped up right behind Ronin, "They hate water, but we're not lookin' for water balloons. We need somethin'... reliable."
Ronin then ran off, his feet pitter-pattering against the wooden floor as he ran to where Lizz was standing. She stepped out of his way as he began digging around, "Hmm... what you're lookin' for is an Aeroblade," he pulled one free, black and shiny in the dim light. It looked somewhat like a shuriken, "Forged from Deep Stone, an-"
"Aquatic material mined from the bottom of the ocean," Lizz was eyeing the weapon hungrily, "Very unique," lightning fast she snatched the blade from his grip and was suddenly standing on the opposite end of the building.
"Hey!" Ronin objected, "That's more expensive than unique, you break it you buy it, sweetcheeks."
She threw the Aeroblade and it stuck in the wall right beside Ronin's head, one of the three points an inch from his good eye, "There's only one person allowed to call me that and you're not it, buddy. How much for the scroll?"
"Two hundred," he smirked, pulling the Aeroblade free from the wall so he could walk around.
"What?!" Jay screeched, "Two hundred! We don't have that kinda dough!"
"C'mon," Ronin taunted, "You guys once had the Golden Weapons. You're honestly tellin' me you've never pinched nothin'?"
"No!" Kai sassed back, "We don't pinch. We don't even have pockets!"
"What if we were to tell you that all of NinjaGo depended on it?" Cole asked, hoping to tap into Ronin's humanity.
Too bad he had none, "Well then," he scurried past Kai and around Cole, looping back around to lean against a different wall, "That changes everything. Four hundred."
Jay threw up his hands with an angry snarl, "You can't just double the price!"
Ronin crossed his arms, "My shop," he said smugly, "My rules."
Kai motioned for a group meeting with one hand while using his other to wave at Lizz, signaling for her to pay attention and stop growling at Ronin, "Alright, so my gut says-"
Cole cut him off, "What do you think, Zane?"
"What?" Kai glared at Cole, "My opinion doesn't matter?"
"Not right now it doesn't," Lizz stomped on Kai's foot, "Now zip it."
"She's got a point," Jay's voice was taut, "We don't listen to your gut anymore, Kai. Zane's the leader, you just get us lost."
"Well then I say we give him what he wants," Zane told them, "I sense if we won't, Morro will."
After a momentary group-growl they broke apart, "Alright, fine!" Kai shouted, "But let me negotiate."
"That's not going to be a good idea," Lizz mumbled, watching Kai go up to Ronin.
"Two hundred," Kai snapped, crossing his arms.
"Four hundred," Ronin argued back.
"Three hundred."
"Four hundred."
"Three fifty!" Kai leaned in.
"Four fifty," Ronin leaned down, too, now eye level with Kai.
"Deal!" Kai shouted.
Jay groaned and closed his eyes in defeat, facepalming. Lizz, on the other hand, was cursing in low, rushed hisses under her breath.
Zane led the way out of the shop, followed in a single-file line by Cole, Jay, Lizz then Kai, "Nice negotiations, Kai," Jay grumbled.
"I didn't see you do any better!" Kai snapped, rushing up past Lizz to peer angrily over Jay's shoulder with a slight shove.
"Hey," Lizz grabbed the back of Kai's Gi and yanked him back in line behind her, "You're in no position to be shoving, so unless you want a deeper grave I suggest you fall back in line."
"Now we just figure out how to make some money," Zane announced casually, as if he hadn't heard the scuffle behind him.
