Chapter Seven
A/N: I personally apologize for what's about to happen in this chapter
Special thanks to Flame-Dragon for helping me with the dialogue in said sinful part
Warning: One major-ass swear word
Lizz got up and followed behind the group, idling in the doorway of the ink-splattered room, "Looks like someone got murdered in here..." she muttered dryly.
Jay threw his hands up, looking at the three messy symbols, "But what does it all mean?"
Sensei put one hand on his hip and used the other to stroke his beard, "Father told me long ago that he would leave a message, leading me to his final resting place. After he passed, I looked everywhere for it, not knowing it was in my hand all this time."
Kai turned to watch Sensei walk back into the hall, "You mean to tell us-"
Sensei had already made it back up to the top deck and was sliding down a rope when he began speaking again, "Yes. These symbols will lead us to The Tomb of the First Spinjitzu Master," one by one the NInja all slid down the rope, following after Sensei as he walked, "The only problem is... I haven't the foggiest idea what any of them mean."
"But if Morro is trying to find the tomb," Kai began frantically, "Then we gotta find it first."
"Hey," Cole beamed, "Maybe Misako can help decipher the clues since she's a total history buff!"
Zane raised his arm, a sudden silver falcon resting on his forearm, "Pixal. Release the falcon and send her our location," the bird took flight, soaring into the calm treetops.
"Good," Sensei praised, "Then, we set up camp."
"Let's split up in pairs and go get some firewood for a fire," Cole decided, "Zane, you're with me."
"I'll go with Nya!" Jay called, running after Nya's retreating figure.
Kai sauntered his way over to Lizz, "I'll pair off with Lizz."
Lizz grit her teeth and shook off Kai's arm, "I think I'd rather go by myself."
Kai looked hurt, "Wait, why-"
"Kai," she spun on her heel to face him, "I just got Lloyd back and he's been possessed by a freakin' ghost. Do my a favour and just leave me alone, alright? I need to think..."
Kai reached towards her, "Lizz-"
"Fuck off, Kai," she snapped, going after Cole and Zane. She took a deep breath and looked at Zane, steadying her temper before speaking, "Hey, Zane?"
"You would like to switch partners with me," Zane smiled at her, "I will gladly pair off with Kai."
Lizz gave Zane a quick hug and a kiss to his cheek, "Thank you, Zane."
Cole waited for Lizz to step up to his side before starting to walk further into the woods. They stopped once in a while to pick up some wood, but other than the gentle clank clank of wood hitting wood the two were silent.
Cole had his back to her, stooping slightly to pick up a few branches, "Lizz, why didn't you want to go with Kai?"
Lizz stood and tucked a chunk of bark under her arm. She opened her mouth, but hesitated, trying to find the right words, "Uh... I just need time away from that one for a little while. Like," she turned back around to face him, "He's a good guy and all, but he's a little... physical... and now's not the time to do that I mean Lloyd just got possessed. Like, what the hell? How does that even happen?"
Cole shrugged, "I don't know, Lizz. What I do know, though, is that we will get him back in one piece, and that's a promise. And another thing I know is that Kai does like being physical, so you can't really blame him for it."
Lizz shifted all her weight to her left foot, "Cole. Look at me."
Cole turned around to face her, "I'm looking."
Lizz cracked a small smile at him, "See? Was that so hard?"
Cole chuckled, smiling back at her, "No, it wasn't," Lizz was half zoned out, looking at Cole. His eyes seemed bluer than usual, more potent of a colour and his hair was shining with the moonlight that was filtering through the trees. Cole raised an eyebrow, "Um... Lizz, you alright?"
Lizz--without thinking--suddenly just dropped her stack of wood in the grass, walking towards Cole. Cole, then, took a step back, away from her, "Lizz...?"
Lizz ignored him, picking up speed with every step she took. Nothing was going through her head--her mind was blank. It was the first time in years it had happened to her and her body wasn't processing it very well.
Cole ended up backed into a tree. The impact made him drop all the wood he'd collected, "Lizz what're you doing?"
Lizz ran the last few feet and bunched the front of his robes with both hands, pushing him against the tree as she pressed her lips to his. Cole's eyes widened for a bit, shocked at what was happening. After a moment, he closed his eyes and--wrapping his arms around her--kissed her back.
Quick as it started, it ended. Cole realized what he was doing and pulled away--shoving Lizz back a little in the process, "Lizz!"
Lizz staggered back, eyes wide with realization, "I-uh...Oh my God I am so sorry! I don't know what I was thinking!"
Cole shook his head, still attempting to process what just happened, "Jesus... what just...?"
Lizz was horrified with herself, "Um... I, uh..." she was still backing away, breathing heavily from panic and from the kiss, "Wood."
Cole picked up his firewood, avoiding eye contact, "Let's just pretend this never happened."
Lizz, however, had her back to him. She flopped down on the grass, sitting with her legs folded as she began picking up her stack, her mind reeling. What just happened? Why'd I do that? What the hell is wrong with me? I just wrecked what was goin' on! We had a good friendship goin' on and now it's gone. Goddammit...
Cole straightened up, still thinking about what had happened just moments before as he turned to look at Lizz for just a second. Then he turned his own back to her, speaking up, "Let's go back."
Lizz sighed heavily and--with a grunt--stood up and walked past Cole without a word, headed back towards camp where the others were still probably waiting. Indeed they were; everyone was already sitting around a campfire when she returned and dropped her wood on the designated pile. Then she wedged herself between Jay and Zane and forced a happy expression.
"Lizz," Nya glanced around, "Where'd you put Cole?"
She tensed a little bit, "Back there somewhere. You know how slow he is in comparison to me, you know?"
Cole came back, tossing his wood on the pile, "I am not slow. I'm leisurely, that's all."
He sat beside Kai--in between him and Sensei Wu. Sensei glanced over them all, the fire casting spooky shadows, "Care to hear a ghost story?"
"If it means saving Lloyd," Zane spoke up, "Of course."
"Morro may have been my first pupil," Sensei began, "But he was also my greatest regreT. Before he was a cursed spirit, it wasn't I who found him, but he who found me... My brother had just gone off to train under Master Chen, which gave me time to attempt my hand at teaching. Morro was the perfect student. He did everything that was ever asked of him," Sensei paused for a moment before continuing, "I had shown him things he had never seen--and he showed me a few things too. He had a power over the wind I had never seen; he was the descendant of an Elemental Master. It was then I thought I had found the one; perhaps he would wear green..."
"Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa!" Jay shouted, pulling Sensei out of his flashback, "You're saying Morro, the Master of Wind, was going to be the Green Ninja?"
As soon as he said that, a slow but heavy wind began, blowing the fire in the direction of Lizz. She shied away from it, finding it too damn hot. Cole looked around, his voice shaking, "Uh... did that... just happen? Maybe I don't like ghost stories..."
"What happened next, Sensei?!" Zane asked eagerly.
"When I told him he could be the Green Ninja," Sensei muttered, "There was a hunger unmatched... There was an arrogance in him, I feared I had made a terrible mistake... But it wasn't for me to decide. It was destiny. When the Golden Weapons didn't respond like they did for Lloyd later, I knew Morro wouldn't become the Chosen One. He became obsessed to prove me wrong--to prove destiny wrong. He became reckless, thinking he was invincible. I knew right there and then, I could not teach those who would not listen... He told me he would find my father's tomb to prove he was worthy. I told him it could not be found. My father had left no message. I left the gates open in hopes he would return, but he never came back... I am saddened he was banished to the Cursed Realm, but what worries me more is that he escaped. And for what reason?" he looked up from the fire and was now raking his gaze over the circle of students, "To save Lloyd and return your powers, you must find the tomb before he does. Or else."
Jay looked like he was about to vomit, "Or else... what?"
"Unspeakable power will curse us all," Sensei finished grimly.
Jay began laughing nervously, "Ah-ha-ha.. Just another day in NinjaGo..." he shrugged, forcing a small grin, "Am I right?"
"This is different," Kai turned to face Jay, "Lloyd is at stake."
"But..." Cole looked at his feet, shaking his head, "How can we compete against the Green Ninja? He's more powerful than all five of us combined!"
"And that was before we lost our powers," Zane looked over at him, putting the icing on top of the cake.
"What if like Sensei said?" Kai looked slightly hopeful, "Our real power doesn't come from our hands," he lifted up his hand, curling it into a fist, "It comes from inside here," Kai took his fist and patted his chest over his heart," he dropped his hand and looked up, determined, "This is Lloyd we're talking about. This is one mission we cannot fail!"
Jay snorted, "But like Cole said, he's more powerful than all of us combined. And I don't know if you got a bad knock to the head or anything, but last time we tried to fight him we didn't do so hot."
"It doesn't matter," Nya crossed her arms, "It's Lloyd. We have to get him back."
"Nya's right," Lizz clasped her hands together, cracking her knuckles, "It's Lloyd. He wouldn't give up on us and we're not giving up on him. We'll just have to fight him without fighting him or do something."
"How about for now we turn in for the night," Cole suggested, standing and stretching, "It'll be a long day tomorrow and even longer if we're all dead tired."
Sensei nodded, standing as well, "Good idea, Cole."
One by one the others all stood, stretching and groaning as they all went to gather their blankets and pillows from The Bounty--sleeping outside would be nice for once. Lizz shuffled into her room and shuddered when she saw the picture of her and Lloyd, tacked up above her bedside table. It was taken a couple days before this entire thing started happening--Jay took the picture without permission; both Lizz and Lloyd were laughing. He'd been caught off guard, Lizz half on his back from 'attacking' him from behind.
Ignoring the growing knot in her stomach, Lizz ripped the blankets off her bed and snatched up her pillows, tucking them under her arm before walking back outside.
A/N: I apologize severely for this and I'll go, like, disappear for the rest of ever for posting this
Lizz swore, like, really badly and she'll do it at least two more times in this book--maybe three more times
Lizz is bipolar af because there's too many emotions that she's trying to cope with and that's never happened before
Sorry for this chapter
