One by one they each hopped off the train, walking down the long wooden boardwalk of the Village of Stiix. Kai, looking very hesitant at the water below, stepped up next to Lizz, "H-hey..."
Lizz inhaled slowly through her nose, "What, Kai?"
"I was just giving you back this," from his back holder he pulled her forgotten sword, "Y-you dropped it yesterday, fighting that ghost. Thought you might want it back?"
Why the hell is he stuttering? Lizz slowly took her weapon from him, careful not to slice anyone's hands off, and slid it onto her back. OH! Maybe that's why... "Look, Kai... About what I said-"
"No, d-don't worry about it," he waved her off almost too quickly, "You're probably feeling more under stress than the rest of us because Lloyd is your brother, I can completely understand that," and with that rushed explanation Kai ran forward to regroup with the others.
"That was weird..."
"Welcome to the Village of Stiix!" a fisherman up ahead greeted them, tugging his line gently, "Oh, and watch your step," he added, right before his gentle tugging turned to full blown yanking, "Ooh! I caught one!"
They all watched with small grimaces as the fisherman was pulled from the top of his post and into the water. Apparently the 'big one' he'd caught was a bit too big. Lizz, Cole, Zane and Jay all ran to the side to make sure the man was alright--he was. When they turned back to Kai he was on his ass, shaking, "I never knew you were afraid of heights," Jay commented, walking away with Zane and Lizz.
Cole stayed back to hear Kai's argument, "I'm fine with heights. It's water I hate."
"Didn't seem to have a problem before," Zane shrugged it off, continuing walking.
"Before, I could make a Fire Dragon at will," Kai began wringing his hands as he slowly followed the group, "Since Morro's taken over Lloyd and our powers are gone, I haven't felt-Aahh!"
The board beneath Kai gave out, falling the hundred-some-odd feet to the water below. Cole ran over and grabbed Kai's hand, pulling back to safety, "Well, now that we know ghosts don't like water either, at least we should feel safe surrounded by it."
"This is about the time when Lizz would be really handy having her powers," Jay commented, glancing over at where he thought Lizz was, "Lizz?" he spun in a circle, "Um... where'd she go?"
"I was down there," Lizz was suddenly directly behind Jay, talking on her phone, "It was quieter below the walkway without having to hear Cole flappin' his gums. I'm on the phone, you know," she put the phone back to her ear, "Yeah, Lar?"
"What the hell was that about?" Lar chuckled quietly.
"Nothing," Lizz waved it off, starting to walk into town more, "But you don't have your powers either?"
"No," Lar swiped a hand through his hair, "None of us do over here. Griffin is in a slump because he can't run laps around everyone, Ash won't leave anyone alone--you know how he likes to talk--even Paleman doesn't have his powers anymore!"
"Invìzáble? Really?" Lizz was taken aback, "What's he look like?"
"He's actually really attractive," Lizz could hear the lip bite in Lar's voice, "Nice jawline, baby blue eyes, dark, shaggy hair, nice olive-toned skin. But the voice," Lar shuddered, "Totally a turn-off."
"Enough of your tastes in genders," Lizz snapped gently, "Back to the point--take a picture of him and text me it--you wanna know why no one's got their powers?"
"Like you would know," Lar scoffed.
Lizz snorted, but her voice wavered, "It's because Lloyd's been possessed by a crazy ghost named Morro, 'kay? All Elemental Powers come from him, the Green-Ninja-slash-Golden Master-slash-First-Spinjitzu-Master-slash-whatever-the-hell-he's-called. Don't tell anyone, though, I'm probably not even supposed to be telling you."
"You're not supposed to be telling him," Cole grit out.
"Yeah, well," Lizz pulled the phone away from her mouth a little, "No one asked your opinion, Rocky Boy," she went back to speaking with Lar, "Just keep an ear out, and tell anyone there that if a ghost shows up spray it with water."
"Water," Lar's tone was exasperated, "Just when we'd come in handy."
"Yeah, tell me about it," Lizz took a glance at the nearing gateway to Stiix, "Look, I gotta run. Talk to you later, Lar, and keep a sharp eye. Don't let anyone get possessed or anything."
"Roger that."
Almost as soon as she'd hung up her phone she got a text from Lar with an attachment of a very attractive young man, "Huh," she shrugged, holding the phone out to the others, "Paleman got hot."
"Wait," Jay almost stopped in his tracks, "That's what he looks like?!"
"He did get hot..." Cole agreed, "Now put that away, we have stuff to do."
Jay led the way through the archway, immediately covering his nose in disgust, "Agh! What a dump! You'd think the thief who stole the Scroll of Airjitzu would have better taste."
"Uhh... this is Ronin we're talking about," Cole reminded Jay, "He'd steal the sea if it were worth anything," There it was again. The uneasy feeling Lizz got when that name was mentioned. Cole continued, adding avid arm waves, "We just have to figure out which rick he's under and get the scroll before Morro does."
"Let's split up and start looking," Zane stopped in the middle of a small intersection.
"Roger that, Cap," Lizz gave a faint salute before the group broke off into different directions. The third place Lizz went into was a run-down little pawn shop that was unoccupied at the moment of her arrival.
She shrugged and looked around, finding it peculiar that there was a stack of Jade Blades--like the ones at Chen's--resting on a dusty shelf. She set the one she'd picked up back down and moved over to a different shelf, picking up a trophy that had Lou Brookstone engraved on the front, "Brookstone... isn't that Cole's last name?"
Whistling off to her right made her release the trophy, tensing up. When she looked at the man--one eye covered with an eyepatch, red hat like Sensei's and thick, neck-length brown hair--forgotten memories hit her like a ton of bricks and made her recoil slightly.
Lizz gathered back up her wits with a guttural snarl that almost made the shop owner drop the expensive-looking blue vase he had in his hands, "Look," he reasoned, "Whoever you are-"
"You," Lizz began towards him, a predatorial look in her eyes.
He looped around her, setting the vase down by his desk, "Look, I don't know who you are, I think you've got the wrong-"
Lizz shoved him backwards so he was half-laid on his desk and without word or reason she bent over him and laid out a few heavy, fast right-crosses straight to his nose. Her free hand was pressed hard on his shoulder, holding him down as she dished out her assault without a break for him to breath between hits. Ignoring the blood coming from his probably broken nose and ignoring his curses and his other arm shoving limply at her, Lizz let herself go blind with rage.
That is until the door behind her bust open and four different voices shouted out at her, a pair of hands suddenly grabbing her by the crooks of her arms and harshly yanking her away from her target, "Lizz!" Cole shouted in her ear from behind, trying to bring her back to reality, "What the hell are you doing?!"
Zane and Jay were helping the man back to his feet and when he was standing he doubled over, blood dropping into a puddle at his feet. Kai was then blocking her vision, cupping her cheeks as he looked desperately at her unfocused eyes, "Lizz, come back to us, what's gotten into you?!"
She was struggling to get at the guy, but not as much now that there were witnesses, "That motherfucker kidnapped me and sold me to the Goddamn Serpentine!"
