Chapter Five
After a moment's thought, Kine realized the position they were in. Quickly stammering, he crawled off of her. If Zaki wasn't mistaken, there was a faint -barely even noticeable to the naked eye- a blush, forming on his cheeks. He picked up the wooden chair and sat back down in it, Zaki watching quietly.
"Can I leave now?" Kine groaned, looking out the window. It was around five in the morning, and Kine had been awake with Zaki the entire night like he promised.
"This is fucking boring." He added.
"Just a little longer? Please...?" She asked softly. He groaned again, and a light strike of thunder hit outside, far away. Kine shifted very uncomfortably in his seat.
"Kine?" Zaki asked, confused at the tall male's behavior. His eyes darted over and connected with her's, his face slightly pale. His body was shaking faintly as the thunder set down once more.
"I-I'm fine..." He whispered in a shaky voice. His shaking increased as his eyes darted around the room nervously. It took a moment for Zaki to catch on.
"You're afraid of thunder, aren't you?" She asked, but instead of mocking him, she asked it in a sincere tone. Kine stared at her, shoulders stiffening when it happened again, the thunder closing in closer and now visible from the window.
"O-of course not..." The male lied quickly, his crimson eyes meeting anything but her icy blue ones.
"Yes you are..."
"Y-you can't prove that..."
"You're stuttering and you look like you've just seen a ghost." Kine heard another strike, but this one was much closer and louder. He yelled and fell off his chair, scampering to the bed and hiding under it like a frightened dog.
Zaki couldn't hold back a light chuckle.
He's scared of thunder? That's actually really cute...
She wondered to herself. Standing with weak legs, she bent down to look at him under the creaky metal bed.
"Come on. Thunder won't hurt you. I'll keep you safe." She said softly, and Kine stared at the hand in front of him. Looking up slowly, their hues connected as he jumped out from under the bed and tackled her in a tight hug. He shook violently in her arms, weak and helpless.
"Thank you Zaki..." He whimpered softly into her ear.
