Belief

Stroking the curly blonde locks of Baron's head it's truly hard to believe that it's only been a year since I first got to hold him. The boy certainly does not look only a year old, at least by human standards, but that's only from the exposure of his demonic parent.
The child in my arms appeared about ten years old, he can speak fluently in English and my personal code, he very much can cause his own trouble although I haven't yet discovered that he's broken any of my rules. Intelligent, curious, mischevious, occasionally stubborn. I couldn't have asked for a better spawn myself.

"Father." Baron spoke quietly as if trying not to alert something. He turned his head to the bedroom doors. "The doggy is back."

Not even a moment later there was scratching at the doors followed by a soft growling. Pinetree.
Not a day went by since I took Baron did Pinetree miss on sitting outside those doors demanding to have Baron back. Even sometimes giving a whine that would shock me to my core.

"Can I play with the doggy, Father?" Baron turned to look at me with pleading eyes. His gold and red eyes almost always got me to bend to his every whim. I wish nothing more than to keep him smiling.
But that "doggy" I could not allow.

"I'm sorry, little imp." I answered him ruffling his hair. "But no, You could get hurt, and you know the one big rule."

The boy nodded sadly. "Never open the main doors." He recited.

I smiled proudly, pressing my forehead against his. "Very good."

Dani materialized with a respective bow. "His majesty and Mr. Sock are waiting, sir." She said quietly.

Whatever good mood I was in had left me. Another meeting, another complaint, and another concern. Those two can't ever let me be.
"Very well," I sigh in annoyance, setting Baron on the floor. "Dani, keep an eye on Baron until I return." Turning my eyes to the boy staring at the main doors, I kneeled down. He looked at me with almost an anxious glint in his eyes. "Behave yourself, little imp."

My boy gave an earnest nod. "Yes, Father."

A smile pulled at my mouth, I pecked a kiss on his tiny nose then disappeared from the room.

We're gunna see Baron's side~

I stayed still as Father kissed my nose then waited even after he was gone. The doggy scratched at the door waiting.
I looked to Dani, quietly asking permission. Her jackal mask nodded seeming amused as I ran to the door.

I never opened the doors, Father would know if I did then I would be in big trouble. But at least I can sit next to the door and talk to the doggy on the other side with Dani or Dallia watching me. I think they know the doggy and that's why they let me.

I sat on my knees next to the door as more scratching sounded from the other side. I let my nails grow before scratching the door on my side, giggling when I hear the doggy make a surprised noise.

Pup?

"I'm not a puppy." I tell it with another giggle. "I'm Baron." I press my ear to the door hearing the doggy to snort.

You are little. You are pup.

I like talking to the doggy, they always tell cool stories of outside my room and outside the Fearamid. I don't know why they keep coming back but I'm happy they do.

"How are you today?" I ask.

Hungry.

"Why don't you eat?" I examine the door I leaned on, there wasn't any space between the door and the floor where I could sneak food.

I can't. Something is going on, it's making me anxious.

"Anxious?" I ask curiously. "What does that mean?"

It means I'm nervous.

"What would make you nervous?" Father always told me demon doggies had one track minds - whatever that means - and nothing could scare them when they were focused on something.

I'm being put in another fight today. Lots of them lately.

"You don't like fighting?"

No. Fighting is pointless in here. Mere entertainment for the bored.

"Father won't let me watch fights." I said. "He says it's not appropriate."

I heard the doggy snort again.

Surprising. I figured he would encourage you to watch them. Sadistic bastard.

"Bastard?"

Don't repeat that, pup. It's an adult word.

I pouted at that. Stupid adults and their special words.

I heard the doggy shift against the door then growl. I pressed my ear harder against it to try an hear what he was growling at.

"Pinetree." I heard a voice familiar but colder, harsher.

The doggy's growl became louder as I heard the clicking of shoes on the floor. I felt my heart beating hard in my chest.
Don't hurt the doggy.

"Enough with your snarls, Pinetree." The voice spoke again. Is that Father?

Suddenly there was a bark, then a cry, and something slammed against the door making me jump back with a yelp. Dani wrapped her arms around me, pulling me away from the door as I felt hot tears well in my eyes.

"D-doggy?"

Even from our distance from the door I could hear more growling, the voice too but I couldn't hear their words.
I grabbed Dani's hand that touched my chest.

Then the doors, that I was never allowed to open, burst inward with a loud bang. A body flew into the room landing with a pained yip.
The body wasn't furry like a doggy, the only fur was dark brown curls around it's head decorated with gold clips; it was long and scrawny sort of like Father but not as yellow, it's lower body was covered with baggy black leggings.
The doggy didn't stay on the floor for long before lifting his head up to stare angrily at the doorway where Father stood holding one of his hands.

Father's eye was red, he was angry too.

"Haven't you learned to not bite the hand that feeds you, Pinetree?" Father asked.

Doggy sat up on his side, a quiet growl rumbling his throat. He spat at Father, black ink looking liquid landing not far from his shoes.
Father didn't look amused even when he smiled.

"Very mature." He said slowly. "Still spiteful I see."

"F-father?" I whimpered. I jumped a bit when both snapped their attentions to me.

Father's anger faltered, his stare shifting between me and Doggy.
Doggy only stared at me with a look I didn't know.

Father rubbed his hand that he was holding, a weird smile on his face. "Sorry for scaring you, Baron." He said calmly. His mouth opened to say more but Doggy got up on all fours again and growling at Father.

Doggy stepped in front of me, hiding me from my father's eye. I stepped back further in Dani's hold in fear.
Maybe Father was right about Doggy.

Father's face turned angry again and he raised a hand readying to hit Doggy.

"No!" I cried. I pushed out of Dani's arms and ran in front of Doggy, stretching my arms out as far as I could.  "Don't hurt the doggy!"

Father froze in surprise. I never told him no before but I couldn't let him hurt Doggy. He was my friend.

Father's hand slowly dropped to his side, the frown on his face lessened. "Baron..."

I felt a nose nudge my cheek and jumped away, actually looking at Doggy towering over my small body.
How did I think I could protect him? He's huge! I never seen him or got so close to him before.

Doggy tipped his head, his red eyes looked down at me concerned. He lowered his head to me.

"So. Big." I head him speak in a hoarse voice.

Staring him in the eye, my heart felt like it would burst in fear. I've talked to Doggy so many times I never thought I would be scared to see him.
Suddenly, he licked my cheek and blew a raspberry. An giggle escaped me as if by nature. It felt familiar.

Doggy scooped me up into his arms nuzzling his face against mine.
"Pup." He said into my hair. "My pup."

Eh?
