My Father's Missing
I go to sit down, but stop when I see Peter sitting beside Willow and looking innocent. I try not to give him a look, but I do anyway. He smiles sweetly back, and points to me, then Kurt, and cups his hands into a heart shape. I roll my eyes as Willow sniggers, then sit and sip my apple juice. Pretty much everyone knows I have a crush on Nightcrawler. Sometimes it isn't that obvious, but he's the first kind and best person I've ever known. And I was selfish by saving my life instead of his all those months ago. It's December now-I shouldn't be thinking of it. Willow stares into space, then suddenly turns a tiny of light-blue. My brother smiles at her again, and I think I'm seeing things. "Is Willow blue?" I ask Kurt.
"Yeah." He replies. "That's her power. For some reason she's sad now-that's what blue means. She can also disappear to her surroundings." I nod. That's why she's named Chameleon. But she's probably sad because of me trying to separate her and Peter. When she grins at Charles and returns back to normal, I finish my jammy toast and sigh. A few minutes later, I hear a familiar sound of Peter cracking his knuckles. I look at him; knowing he's about to show off, with a plate stacked up high of food. In about a three second flash, he chomps it all up. "Ta da." He grins grossly at Willow; who, of course laughs. She wipes the jam off his cheek, and they gaze dreamily into each others eyes.
I feel like I scowl at her, then turn to Kurt. "You don't like her, do you?"
"Just because everyone else does, doesn't mean I can't." I say.
"Nin, aren't you just jealous that Willow's getting Peter's attention, and you're not?" That's exactly what it is, actually. I don't reply, instead Peter and Willow burst into fits of laughter and I stare at them happily. I wonder why they're laughing. I also know there's no way I could keep them apart. Charles told us about sneaking into her room and surprising her for her birthday. Now I think I might. I have no idea what she's been through. Maybe she's like me.
The next morning after a long day of boring lessons, Kurt, Peter and I creep into her bedroom with a load of others. Jean flicks the light switch with her mind, and the beam wakes Willow up.
"HAPPY BIRTHDAY!" I exclaim along with everyone else. Willow jumps up and hugs me, much to my surprise and we all have a group hug. She turns an orange and yellow colour. "I love it when she does that." My brother states. Then Willow starts to cry, but doesn't change colour again. "Was it something I said?" He looks confused. I feel sympathy for her, but I don't even know why. She turns multi-coloured, and thanks us a lot. We part, and Peter shouts loudly. "Ooh! Who wants to go in my room for a Twinkie?!" I head to our room, and lay on my bed, trying not to fall asleep as Nightcrawler talks to me.
We have science with the head professor today, which isn't normally boring, but I knew most of it anyway. When Charles asks Willow to stay behind, I stay with Kurt, and peer around the corner of the door curiously. "What are you doing?" Peter asks.
"What's going on with Chameleon?" I retort. He shrugs. "I don't know." He stays and listens in with us. Charles hands her a white cuboid box. "This is for you." He says. "As you know, Erik is still missing, and if you want to, you could help me find him." A million thoughts rush around my head. I was so concentrated on Willow, that I didn't even realise my own father was missing. I glance over at Peter who gives me the same look. She opens the box, and inside is an X-Men suit like we, the Fast Three, have. Why pick her? I think. Willow mumbles something. "I know how you feel about him." Charles says. "Erik has gone after his...own enemy's brother. They both want revenge on each other."
"Of course he has." Peter whispers. It is something my father would do. "That can't be good though." I reply quietly.
"If it means saving Erik-I'll do it." Willow accepts, turning lilac. Peter runs in before I can stop him. "I'm coming with you." I follow him. "What? I'm not leaving you." Kurt edges round the door anxiously. "Umm...Count me. Count me in, too."
"I can't risk taking all of you." Charles warns us.
"But surely the more mutant's we take, the better chance of finding him we have." I say.
"If you get killed-"
"I'd be glad to die alongside my friends, fighting for what I love, rather than dying at school by my own hand." Willow says. So that's what happened to her. She must have been at the school my father went to for the assembly. Now I definitely feel sorry for her after that line. "We'll go tommorow after training-miss it today-You'll need sleep before." Charles nods, and we go to bed as ordered.
