Ebony is a depressed young girl who lost both her parents when she was very little. Their death is still unexplained and ever since Ebony was old enough to realise they were dead, Ebony has been trying to find out what happened.

Ebony lives with her uncle, George, who is a rich alcoholic and doesn't care about Ebony, and her aunty, Francis, who has the warmest heart and is willing to help anyone who needs it. George and Francis live in a huge mansion deep in the forest. Sometimes, Ebony would look out the window and imagine magical creatures, all happy and dancing together, until the yelling or slap on the head from her cruel uncle snapped her out of it.

Now Ebony is sixteen. She has made new friends while shopping with Francis and often texts them. One night, while her aunty and uncle were asleep and her chores were finished, Ebony went on her phone to talk to her friends. Her friends started talking about how dreams mean something like what will happen in the future or if they could come true.

Ebony: Don't be silly!

Ebony felt her eyes start to water.

Ebony: If dreams did come true I would be with my parents and wouldn't ever be hit or yelled at.

Ebony turned her phone off and went to sleep.

Then she started dreaming...
