Chapter 6 - Socialising Is Hard

"I just want to go home," she muttered under her breath. Her emotions towards the house, and the people who lived inside of it, was neutral. She was grateful for them accepting her, a complete stranger, into their home and even felt like she belonged with the people. The only reason making her want to return to where she came from, wherever that could be, was the unfamiliarity and the strange feeling she had consistently experienced ever since she arrived at this strange 'other world'. She was just unable to get her head around the farm incident and why this world was so unbelievable, no, unreal. Dreamlike. She wasn't the most social person in the world, and interacting with others she didn't know fully wasn't something she usually enjoyed. She would outcast herself from conversations to avoid awkwardness, only to make the atmosphere more uncomfortable for her. She told herself to push through the situation, ignoring the lack of comfort deep down inside her, since there was no other way to get to know these people and she would have to if what the tall one, who she couldn't remember the name of, said was true. She slid her elbow across the kitchen counter with her feet sliding along the polished tiled floor, only to fail and attract everyone's attention towards her as the tabletop squeaked under her arm and her body crashed onto the cold tiles. She was fine physically, but her mental state was about to break with embarrassment. Her face was as red as the reddest thing you could think of. No, redder than that. Her body lay motionless on the floor as everyone circled around, their heads filled with questions. Tyler was flat on the cold floor, staring at the general direction of the ceiling, able to move if the embarrassment wasn't holding her down.

"Oh my dog! Are you okay Tyler?" Wester swiftly questioned.

"Y-yeah. I'm alright," Tyler replied, followed by a large sigh and a smile directed towards Wester.

She sat up and instinctively placed her hand on the back of her head. She noticed a hand extended towards her so she reached out and grabbed it, pulling her up on her feet. The hand belonged to the tall, silent one. Tyler noticed the vivid white cross that replaced the pupil of his two eyes, only one being visible and uncovered by his thick, ginger fringe. He smiled as Tyler unknowingly stared. His face was one to make one feel warm inside no matter how bad, or embarrassed, one may feel.

"Thanks, dude," Tyler gratefully spoke, still not remembering her helper's name.

Everyone had stopped paying attention to Tyler by the time, other than Phoxen who was still stood in the corner trying to hide his laughter. The tall one smiled again, and pulled his pen and notepad from his back pocket, slowly writing something in there that looked like english words. He showed Tyler the notepad. It read 'HSAKIA', written in very messy, roughly scribbled english. He bowed his head slightly, pointing his antlers close to Tyler's face, then walked back to the other side of the kitchen table and started cleaning its stone surface. Tyler's feelings of embarrassment fizzled away, being replaced with calmness. She'd almost already forgotten about what just happened, and was now happy that she didn't.

"Smooth," Phoxen announced as he slowly walked towards Tyler, breaking her relaxation. "Real smooth." He placed his pale hand on Tyler's back and he chuckled again.

"No need to feel embarrassed, we're all used to people doing stupid stuff," he continued, "I mean, I did the exact same thing on the first day I was staying in this house."

Tyler felt awkward again. She told herself she just blew her good first impression, since anything Phoxen would do would most likely be a stupid thing to do.

"But seriously, you belong here, so don't feel like you don't. Even if it may take some time for you to feel like you fully fit in, you're still the official seventh roommate. I'll go and get Tom to clear out all of his stuff from your room. I'm sure he won't mind you using his room, since he doesn't even really use that room for anything other than his wardrobe."

Tyler though the person standing before her might not be as much as an asshole as he first seemed and is known to be.

"But do keep in mind, I am actually already in a relationship, so don't try me. And if you need help with anything, always remember that you can go to Saki or Tom, or actually anyone other than me, because I don't really care about your problems. Now run along kiddo, go get to know someone else other than me."

The kitchen was the cleanest part of the house, or more accurately the only clean part of the house. Tyler noticed this as Hsakia was wiping down the surfaces and putting away empty cups and mugs from the others. He would stand in the kitchen area for a while, silently listening to the conversations, occasionally picking up his sponge from the sink and wiping down any surface touched by anyone, at every chance he could take. He looked bored, and slightly emotionless. Tyler stood between the kitchen and the small, ripped up sofa, yet again staring at Hsakia and not really knowing what to do. She noticed the one thing Hsakia hadn't touched. It was a package, covered a in dried up, red liquid that could vaguely represented blood. Tyler hypothesised it might actually be blood, but for the amount that was on the package, it was unlikely, unless someone had possibly been fatally wounded for it. The package was smallish, able to be placed in a bag of some sort, and wrapped in a thin, paper like brown wrapping with a small note attached with string. She was curious to what was inside, but it would be rude to ask. The package filled up a corner of emptiness on the kitchen tabletop, so it stood out. The thing that was baffling Tyler's mind and making her even more curious, was that none was paying attention to it, almost like it wasn't there. She had to hold herself back from asking who the package belonged to, and what the contents of it was. A mystery forever in her head. It may just have been a package, but whatever was in it was attracting the attention of Tyler and no-one else. Hsakia continued to clean around it, and it remained how it always was. Untouched.

Just before the current moment, but after the small introduction he gave to Tyler, Phoxen walked off in his bee slippers, back up the stairs and into his room, still containing a sleeping Tomasn. Tyler had a slight feeling of relief flow through her body. Her beverage was cold, but she continued to drink it as she didn't want to seem rude. The taste was unexplainable, impossible to identify any one of the many flavours other than the faint taste of cinnamon and a sort of metallic taste. It was unusual, but she enjoyed it.

"So, Tyler was it? We all know you're feeling out of place, so just come and chat with us. It's fine, we'd actually love to get to know you." Nadess kindly stated. Tyler zoned back in.

"U-uh, okay. Sure," she responded, "And thank you again for letting me stay here for the night. I can't express my gratefulness with words, but I really appreciate it."

"No problem! We're just trying to make you feel at home." Nadess finished her sentence with a large grin. Tyler felt uncomfortable, but tried tell herself to get involved in the conversation anyway. She walked towards the main group, consisting of Arcana, Wester and Nadess. She wasn't sure if Hsakia was also involved, as he just stood on the other side of the table, staring intently, not that it mattered. She calmed herself down, telling herself that she'd already made a stupid first impression so there wasn't really that much she could do to top that.

"Hsakia would like to make you another drink. May he take your mug?" Wester requested.

"Oh, sure." Tyler slid her mug across the table and the group continued their conversation. Tyler noticed they were altering their conversation to make it about something she would understand, with questions like "So, did you see the moon last night?" and replies like "Of corse I saw the moon, dipshit. It's fucking obvious." soon followed by one of Hsakia's house-known death stares which could be quickly and easily translated to "If you ever use any more of those most horrible profanities, I will bury you so deep in the ground you'll pop out the other side of this floating rock and freeze to death, if not already dead by being suffocated by the mounds of soil that cover your entire body or by the vacuum of space." Or maybe it was the "I'm running low on Sodee" look. Either way someone would've ended up in the freezing depths of space if nothing was sorted out.
