Monday came and for the first time I flew with a group, Thunder was pumped, excited to join the school football team for some reason, Shade wanted to see the library and was flying faster than she normally did, Flight wanted to meet boys and Flame wanted to meet girls, and despite how much Snag denied it, he was probably the most enthusiastic of us all.

'Now remember to keep away from the dragon nip, and don't growl or provoke anyone.' I told them,
'And don't forget your names,' Snag piped up, 'Theus, Fiona, Felix, sheela and Scott.'

'OK Mom,' Thunder smirked.

'Cut the attitude,' I rolled my eyes.

I was worried, sure they would mess up in the principles office, but they came out unscathed, I worried through biology as well, they were all in desperate classes, and I waited for screams in the corridors to signal our time to run back home and never come back.

Vanessa held my hand, 'don't worry, or you'll be the one sprouting wings.'
I laughed silently. Then tensed again.
Next was Sport, coach Cerulean told us it was dodgeball, Thunder was with me in that class, and he dodged every ball with ease. I pushed him into one eventually, 'be more realistic,' I muttered angrily. He grunted and sat down.

I got hit a little later, and sat next to him and watched Vanessa dodge ball after ball but never throw, 'you can't show off like that, Thunder.' Thunder pouted. 'At school call me Theus.'
I growled.

Next was Maths, and to my surprise, Shade, who was there, was first to hand in her sheet, even before Tim, who looked surprised.
'Who's the new girl?' He asked me in a whisper, 'she's from my old school, Sheela,' I answered.

I was permanently on edge, and lunch was the final and biggest test.
I sat down at the usual table, Vanessa on my right, Snag- I mean Scott, on my left, next to Scott was Theus and Felix, and next to Vanessa was Sheela and Fiona.
The others, Tim, Steven, Ralph and Tanya sat down on the other side.

'Hi, these are my friends from my old school, Scott, Theus, Sheela, Fiona and Felix,' I pointed to them each, 'can they do the fire trick?' Ralph asked eagerly.
'Can I?' Scott threw up a roast potato and blackened it with a small terrible terror fireball.
'Epic...' Ralph muttered.
'OK guys, no more party tricks,' I hissed.
'What? Aren't we going to tell them the secret?' Scott asked tacklessly.
My eyes glowed green, 'no.' I hissed, too low for human hearing. Scott looked down and chomped his blackened potato, getting rid of the evidence.

'So can I come to your place this afternoon?' Vanessa asked me, trying to change the subject.
'you went to Fury's place?' Steven asked.
'Yea...' Vanessa looked at Steven defiantly.
'But what about us?' Steven looked heartbroken.
'There was never an us,' Vanessa said crossly.
'But-'
'No!'

'OK. Let's calm down people,' I tried to ease the air between them, but Steven just switched his glare to me. 'You stole my girl!' He yelled.
'What are you talking about?' Both Vanessa and Me asked, my eyes flashed.
'Look at you, an item, its sick.' Steven muttered.
'OK... Moving on...' I rolled my eyes.
'Don't roll your eyes at me!' Steven stood up angrily. Scott, Fiona, Felix, Theus and Sheela stood up at once. Eyes narrowed.
'Guys...' I whispered low enough only for the dragons and Vanessa to hear.

Sheela checked her watch, 'bells about to go. Bye.' She grabbed her bag and left, followed by the Fiona, Felix, Theus and Scott.

There was an awkward silence, 'sorry, their... Intense.' I smiled sheepishly.
The bell went, and we all stood up hastily and left.

The rest of the day passed uneventful, but I kept my eye on the five, until school ended and we made our way with Vanessa to an old warehouse on the edge of a cliff, it had been abandoned for over fifteen years and was the perfect hiding place.

We all changed and, with Vanessa on my back, flew out of a huge hole Sheela had burned viewing the ocean.

Snag was humming. And almost without warning, he broke into one of the most popular Berkian dragon songs:
'Flying high above the sky,
Claws shining, a wicked eye,
Teeth as sharp as silver swords,
Prouder than the greatest lord,
A dragon I am, a dragon I be!'

Sheela sang the next chorus in a high soprano, looking ridiculous matched with her heavy and lethal dragon form.
'Greater than the Royal lion
Fire to burn even iron!
Large, small, with a mighty clang!
Our roar a Thunder's bang!
A mighty dragon I be!'

The twins then sang in unison.
'Swifter! Stronger! Smarter! Bolder!
Flying high above the clouds,
Let us now sing proud!
Dragons, Dragons we be!'

'Ever heard a dragon song?
Well now's your chance!
Let Dragons celebrate and dance!'
For now we be and two and three,
'Let you now see!'
Thunder called out in bass tones.

The five then turned to me expectantly.
I roled my eyes and sang the final chorus.
'Mightier than men!
Yet friendship never ends!
Maybe once before the two great lords,
Can be allies once again!'

'Dragons! We're dragons! We are dragoooooooons!"
We all finished off with roars of laughter.

'You guys are great singers,' Vanessa laughed.
I shifted uncomfortably, blushing under my scales.

I noted how Vanessa seemed to shift as well, the spines and scales on my back must be uncomfortable, I'd never even thought of that! Shoot. I thought of the Dragon master's era, he had designs that we still used on Berk today, if I looked in the library, maybe...'
