Chapter 2

So, here we are! Chapter two is now out. Enjoy!

A few days later, the dragons were being trained in the newly founded Berk Academy of Dragons, the old kill ring. Astrid had paired with the blue and gold Deadly Nadder, which she named Stormfly.

Fishlegs had bonded to the brown Gronckle named Meatlug.

Snotlout had, well, not really trained, but been set on fire by, the red Monstrous Nightmare who was named Hookfang.

Stoick had bonded with Thornado, a blue Thunderdrum, while Gobber had found a Hotburple eating his metal and had taken a liking to him. He had called him Grump, for reasons best known to himself, as he was a very amiable dragon, if a little sleepy.

Ruffnut and Tuffnut were bonded with the acid green Hideous Zippleback. The left head, Tuffnut's, was called Belch, while the right head, Ruffnut's, was Barf. They were already training their dragons to headbutt each other.

"Would you please stop that?" Asked Hiccup in annoyance. "We're trying to train here!"

"Hey, it's not our fault that telling our dragons to headbutt each other when we're trying to train is fun!" Complained Tuff. "It just is! Look! Belch! Headbutt!" He said. Belch banged into Barf with astonishing precision.

Hiccup sighed and facepalmed, well, as much as was possible while wearing a mask.

"Look, you can headbutt to your heart's content later! Just please, for the love of Thor, pay attention!" He groaned. "Mount up, we're going for a flight."

"Hey, wait! You haven't even told us what to do yet!" Complained Gobber.

"You can't just explain. Riding a dragon is instinctual." Explained Hiccup.

"Okay. First, put the saddles on the dragons." He pointed to a wooden crate containing saddles.

"Let your dragon smell the saddle first to help him get used to it. That is very important."

He walked round the prospective dragon riders, instructing and giving help where necessary. When all the dragons were tacked up, he whistled for Toothless.

Toothless got up and walked out of the shadows in the dark side of the arena where he had been sleeping, stretching his wings and yawning.

"Hey, bud. Ready to go for a flight?" He asked in Dragonese. Toothless said nothing, and hopped up and down on the spot, doing his famous gummy smile and whining in excitement, all sleepiness forgotten.

"Yeah, yeah, I get it!" Exclaimed Hiccup. "Don't go too fast though, give the others a chance to keep up."

"When have I ever done that?" Toothless asked teasingly.

"What about that time with Heather?" Retorted Hiccup. "Windshear can't go very fast with all those scales. You left them miles behind!"

Toothless stuck his tongue out, triggering laughter from a few of the new riders. Hiccup smiled under his mask, and leapt up on to the saddle on Toothless's back.

"Riders, mount up!" He said, to disastrous results. Astrid leapt into the saddle so violently that she fell off the other side!

Snotlout commanded Hookfang to put his head down and let him up, and Hookfang set him on fire for the third time that morning, causing him to leap into the water trough.

Fishlegs accidentally stepped on Meatlug's foot while getting up, causing her to reel back and knock him over. Gobber tripped over with his peg leg and landed on his back, knocking Stoick over. The twins began to squabble over which twin should get on first and began fighting.

Hiccup laughed. Toothless looked at him.

"I remember when you were no better than that." He said. Hiccup flicked a little water from the trough at him. Toothless shook his head violently, licked his paw and tried to rub it off.

While Toothless was occupied, Hiccup went to help the other riders.

Eventually he got them all mounted up, and proceeded to mount Toothless.

"Now, tap your dragon gently with your heels, and pull gently upwards on the handles of your saddles. Pull up until you have reached the top of the arena, then stop pulling so that you hover for a moment, then push gently downwards to touch back down." He instructed.

The results were far better than when they had tried to mount. Most of the riders managed it successfully. Well, all of them except the Twins, who began to tell Barf and Belch to go in opposite directions. The result was that Barf and Belch crashed into the ground, the two heads splayed as far apart as possible.

"Look, I didn't even say to go left OR right! Can't you listen to anything I tell you?" Growled Hiccup. "You two, don't listen when they tell you to do that." He addressed Barf and Belch. They nodded in sync.

"Okay, it's time for a real flight. Follow me." Hiccup said. He leapt nimbly into Toothless's saddle, and they flew out the gate. The riders-in-training followed slowly and carefully. They flew along slowly, with Hiccup stopping to advise or, in the case of Snotlout the Twins, reprimand.

They flew around Berk, marvelling at the sight of the island from on high, and Hiccup and Toothless began to do aerial stunts. They did fairly basic ones such as backflips and loops for a while.

"Wanna show them the flight suit, Bud?" Asked Hiccup, scratching behind Toothless's ear fins.

Toothless warbled in pleasure, then replied "If you must. But make sure there are no rock pillars in our way this time!"

Hiccup laughed. "Come on, let's go!" He said, clicked Toothless's tail fin on to auto mode, and fell off. The trainee riders gasped, and peered down. Toothless followed him and flapped down after him. They free-fell for a while, until the see loomed close.

Hiccup pushed his arms into the loops of his flight suit's wings, and snapped them out. The riders gasped again, shocked. Toothless let out a few plasma blasts, which Hiccup expertly flew over.

The dragon came with no warning. A four winged dragon, a Stormcutter, swooped down out of the sky and grabbed Hiccup mid-flight.

"Oh no! Toothless! TOOTHLESS!" Hiccup screamed, and struggled in the firm grip of the Stormcutter to no avail. A Thunderclaw grabbed the panicking Toothless, and both kidnapping dragons flew back in to the clouds.

The new riders tried to follow, but they soon lost the dragons in the clouds. But one thing that they had noticed was that the Stormcutter had a figure standing on it's back.

*Evil laugh* A cliffhanger! I never knew I could be so evil. 1061 words! I hope you liked it.

Don't forget to vote, it helps out!
