Bella more or less has a mental breakdown over this information. She locks herself in her bedroom and plays heavy-metal CD's at top volume.

There is a very unsettling scene where she researches vampires on the Internet.

Then she has a nightmare that Jacob is a werewolf and Edward is a vampire. Bella, honey, you worthless idiot, sometimes our dreams have meaning.

After pages and pages of agonizing over this, she decides that the only thing she wants in the world, even now, is to be with Edward. Even if all he wants is to drink her blood.

Do you see why this book is making me use curse words.

Not only is Edward absent from school, but his entire creepy family is gone, too. Bella panics. I breathe easier. My anxiety has been too bad lately to handle a character who literally scares the crap out of me.

At home, Bella tries to distract herself from Edward by marinating fish, doing homework, and watching TV with Charlie. As she reads on a quilt in the backyard, she feels like someone is watching her. She hurries inside.

The chapter ends with her going out with two friends to help them pick prom dresses.

I started this book all set to hate Bella. I don't really hate her. I'm neutral and I'm afraid she'll get really hurt. I hate Edward. Hate, hate, HATE him.
