We're told that Bella and her mom look alike but aren't actually told how they look.

Bella is leaving her mom to go live with Dad in Washington, a state Bella hates. She made this decision on all her own. No reasons specified whatsoever.

Bella calls her dad by his first name, Charlie. Charlie bought her a truck. Bella whines a little at first, but ends up loving the truck. So far she's okay. She likes trucks.

Bella notes that, cool little truck or not, being happy in Washington is impossible. Then why is she here?

Now we're given Bella's physical appearance. For almost an entire page.

Charlie still has pictures of Bella's mom on the mantle and it honestly depresses me. The guy seems nice.

Bella goes to school and I enjoy it as I lack knowledge of school. Bella proves to be rather unfriendly to the other teenagers.

We're on page 20 and she's already laid eyes on pale, bronze-haired, long-fingered, circles-under-his-eyes Edward Cullen, and forced to read a sentence about how beautiful his lips are as he eats lunch.

Page 22 and we're still wading through descriptions of how physically beautiful  Edward and his weird clique are. Never thought of a pale person with eye bags as breathtakingly beautiful but y'know.

Bella has class with Edward and he glares at her, sitting as far away as possible. He continues to act hostile for literally no reason. They haven't even spoken. Bella describes his voice as attractive, his face as "absurdly handsome with piercing, hate-filled eyes."
