What I read in June 2022

1.

I feel like I read this book a year ago. I literally cannot comprehend that I read this book after I saw Stranger Things 4. But anyway, here is the extremely complicated story of how I got this book.

It wasn't available on Libby, in my county library system, or free online. But I had skipped several books for the Goodreads challenge and didn't want to give up on another. I asked the local Facebook page if I could borrow it from anyone, but no one responded. Then I discovered that the out-of-county library had it, so I reserved it and asked my neighbor to pick it up since she works in the area. She went to the library and found nothing held for me. An hour later, I got an email that my book was ready. My neighbor went back to the library a second day in a row. What she left on my porch was a stack of audiobook CDs. A STACK OF AUDIOBOOK CDS. I DO NOT EVEN POSSESS A CD PLAYER.

So finally I got a one-week free trial of Kindle Unlimited and read it that way, and ended up keeping Kindle Unlimited because it radicalized my life.

As for the book, I really did love it.

2.

I started this book during lockdown but didn't finish chapter one. Now I see why. I was 90 minutes into the audiobook before it got interesting. THEN IT WAS SO GOOD. I kept googling stuff about it because I wanted to read discussions. I wanted to talk about this book so bad and I kept imagining it as a movie but not the movie that exists.

3.

This was just a really random read and I kept reading facts about donuts to my mom until she got annoyed. I want to bake the pie recipe inside.

4.

I didn't bother adding the description since I read/listened to this book three times in 14 months but yeah it just means so much to me for some reason. And I also now finally own it.

5.

This was next on the Goodreads challenge. I didn't like it as much as Salvage the Bones but Jesmyn Ward frankly doesn't make a mistake and it's still an important book.

6.

Finally I read another Goodreads challenge book and I wouldn't have been able to get it, either, without Kindle Unlimited. George MacDonald's princessess annoy me but it's still impressive how his books can be so very readable after nearly 200 years.
