Chapter 5-Leo
"Tell me what your father meant. Tell me," her green eyes shone with dark light. The same eyes that had killed my sister and mother. But still, I felt a force dragging me into the depth of those eyes.
"It's not important," I replied angrily. I knew father would be upset if I told her. The last thing I wanted was to be struck once more.
"What do you mean it's not important. It's about me. It might be related with my forgotten past. Please tell me. I want to know."
Her pleading eyes almost made me want to tell her when I realized that the full moon was shining brightly outside. Guilt spread through me as I took out the blue canteen of poison I always kept with me. The poison, Arsenic, was enough to knock you out for a while but wasn't able to spread through your body. My hand touched the red container of sleeping powder that helped me sleep. I had only used it once but it still felt like I had still been using it. The two containers were often mistaken and hard to identify.
"Here, drink this first. Then I'll explain." If you're still conscious, I thought as an afterthought.
I watched as her green eyes sparkled with hope as she drank the rich mixture. As soon as she handed me back the poison, I swiftly placed it back in my pocket with the red container as she fell into my arms. As soon as her eyes closed, I placed her on the bed.
Walking stealthily to the hallway that loomed outside. I stopped at the door that led to the lawn outside and concealed myself in the shadows of one of the many trees.
Today wasn't the right time for her to know, and even if it was, I didn't know much about it to tell her. All I knew was that it was my duty to protect her. I couldn't help but hate her, her green eyes reminded me of the murderer that had killed my important family ten years ago.
~~~
Ten Years ago
Thunder crackled in tone with the lit fireplace inside the sheds walls. It wasn't quite small but it was big enough to shelter me, my mother and sister from the pouring rain.
I placed a protective hand around my sister, Melody, giving her solace as she jumped from another harsh drumming of Thunder.
"Brother Leo and mother will always be with me, right," she asked while shaking with the fear of the outside weather.
I couldn't help but answer her in a kind voice. "Of course, We will. Right, mother," I asked glancing towards the figure sitting on the opposite side of the small room.
She smiled in a kind but worried way before answering. "Of course. Yes. Of course, little Melody." She sounded unsure as she said this but Melody bit into her lie.
A hard knock sounded on the door as my mother got up to answer it. The view of a cloaked figure stood in the doorway. I wasn't able to see the face of the figure but I did manage to glimpse the expression of worry my mother had on her face.
"Children, I'll be right back," she announced absent mindly.
I nodded back but was sure she hadn't seen me nod. The door clicked behind her before another beat of Thunder shook the sky, blocking any sound that followed.
Some time passed in which the Thunder had died down and Melody became restless bouncing up and down before she finally got up and followed mother.
"I want to see why mommy is taking so long,"she told me before she too went out the door.
A loud cry made me have a sudden urge to get up from my sitting position. I walked out of the hut and saw a familiar lady with bright green eyes gazing into mine with sadness but then changed into a glare. She was holding a weapon in her hand that seemed to have a blood stain on it. It was too dark to make out what the weapon looked like. I looked down at her feet and found two bodies which I recognized immediately. One of them, my mother who was holding on to Melody, as if she thought they would be able to escape together, like she had promised. I tried to hide my horror to seem strong but failed to do so as my eyes started to water.
"I see you're a part of this family as well. Are you now," she hissed with cruelty as her eyes turned a dark shade of red,"then as a reward, I'll also strike you down. You might be the one, and I don't want you to go lose. '
I walked back a step, I cried for father. The only one that was left from my torn family. Just as I was about to change into my wolf form, a sleek wolf that appeared to be an alpha appeared from behind the wicked lady.
"Lyra, the curse. Control it. Your vision is being clouded again Don't you remember who he is." He whispered to her. The wind carried his voice so that I was able to hear him,"Lyra, don't listen to her if you know what's good for you. Don't forget I'm here for you,"
She struggled to put her knife away. When she did, her eyes turned back into the green it had been before. The lady ran away with a pained expression together with the Alpha from before.
I fell onto my knees and broke into a quiet sob until father came. The women's green eyes still fresh in my head. I made sure to remember her name, for what good that would do.
"Leo, what happened," My father asked startled at the sight he saw.
I rushed into his arms, talking in between sobs. I could see that he still managed to understand what I had been saying.
"Come Leo, we must hurry. It seems the prophecy has come true," He announced before taking me by my hand towards the Oracles home.
...
" Yes, it seems your son will be the protecter of the girl," the Oracle told father," He is the one that has fulfilled the prophecies commands."
A worried expression from my father followed.
"What's in the prophecy?" I questioned the Oracle.
"The prophecy contains the clues for the next werewolf leader. Since you have fulfilled the clues, you have been selected to fulfil it. It is said that you must take care of the child whose parents have died mysteriously. That child will be chosen soon but you must fulfil your role of protecting this child to be the next werewolf leader,"
"What are the clues," I asked.
"The clues are something that no one except I know,"
"And this girl, what is she like. So that I may find her," father asked impatiently.
"She is the daughter of an important couple. Alpha I'm sure. It think their names are Lyra and Will was it, Yes. They will be murdered in the coming month by an unknown force. Their daughter will be unharmed and that is where Leo will come in," The Oracle responded in a nondescript way.
Lyra? Lyra was the werewolf that had killed my family, I thought with new rage from hearing the name. And I would have to protect the daughter of the very lady that had killed the two most important people in the world to me. A shadow crossed over my face and I looked towards my father who had a ridiculous grin masked on. I had a sickening feeling that he was up to something that was yet to form.
"Thank you, Oracle," my father told her before getting up and making me follow him.
I made a mental note to myself to never trust this girl even if I needed to protect her.
...
The meeting with the oracle had startled me but somehow it had made me overcome my dull mood. We slowly walked back to the place my father and I lived at. The school he had established together with my mother years ago. I got trained from him there and once every week, we would stay up to sword play. Sword play had brought me comfort and my father had come to understand that.
That night I was waiting eagerly in front of the heavy doors, when they slowly creaked open. I jumped up, energized and ready to start training when I saw who was with him.
With my father, her head bowed down was a small girl that seemed to be about a year younger than me. Sensing my presence, she looked up at me in a suspicious way.
The first thing that I saw were her green eyes. They were equivalent to the woman's eyes and I realized who she was. The eyes had a mix of dark and light lights which made it hard for me to identify her as a werewolf or human. Her characteristics seemed human but the Oracle said she was an Alpha. The Oracle could be wrong I guess.
"Leo, I want you to meet Ziva," father told me with a tone I knew all too well.
Ziva, seeing that I was not a threat, smiled up at me and lifted her hand for me to shake in a gesture of friendship. Anger shot through me as I slapped her hand away. She gasped, not quite sure what she had done wrong.
"I don't like shaking hands with people," I responded seeing the look on my father's face.
She nodded as if she understood and quietly slinked away from me. I felt guilt as I wondered why I was taking my hate out on the daughter of the women that put vengeance into my heart.
~~~
I looked back to that time and smiled at my stupidity. A bush shook behind me as I got my weapon, a sword I had received as a birthday present. ready to use. As the figure moved out of the bushes, I attempted to hit it with my weapon but failed. From the way he moved, I could tell that he was a boy. He counter attacked easily and jumped onto me so that I was pinned to the ground while another figure, which seemed to be a girl came out behind him.
His hood fell from his face as I realized who it was. Why now of all times? I thought.
"Yo. Been a while Leo,"
