Chapter 2-Ziva
I swung my wooden sword in the attempt to block Leo's attack. Leo sensed my move and altered his sword's direction so that I wouldn't have time to stop him from striking my leg. The impact shook my body but wasn't enough to take me from my feet. Before he could make his next move, I took to the air and struck his shoulder from above. Right when he was about to react, I moved my sword and placed it against his neck causing him to regretfully retreat.
"OK, let's take a break for now. Wouldn't want you to be shaken as much as to fear me for a while. Like what happened the first time you saw me change into my werewolf form," He laughed in cruelty toward me. I tried to ignore him as I fell back against one of the sturdy walls of the training room.
It was true that I had been startled the first time I had seen him change but that was years before, when I hadn't known about werewolves. But even back then, when he had attained his wolf form, I had a feeling deep down, that I had known something about werewolves before I had lost my early childhood memories. But it was still a mystery to me.
Leo took off toward the wall opposite the window and leaned back against it with a look of defeat on his features. His look made my guilty for my failed mission. The details of that mission appeared in my mind as I thought of my failure.
~~~
"You and Leo will be going on a very important mission. If this fails, the humans, as well as the werewolves will be in danger. There has been sighting of the werewolf criminal that we have been searching for months now. Up until today, he has killed five hundred people. Most of which were humans. I want you to hunt him down and assassinate him. This is your mission. Make sure no one sees you or your mission will be a failure," the headmaster reached across his desk and gave Leo the crumpled up paper with instructions.
Leo accepted it and I leaned over his shoulder to read it. The instructions seemed to be the same as what the headmaster had told us. We nodded, understanding that we would have to do our best not to fail. If we did fail this mission, the lives of millions would be in danger. I would have to do my best to pay off the kindness the headmaster had given my.
...
That night, we headed towards the old church in which the culprit was known to be residing in. Leo jumped onto the ledge above the doorway trying to make minimum noise as possible while I took my position at the door with my weapon in hand.
Footsteps could be heard from inside the building making me more alert in case the culprit decided to go outside. We had agreed that it would be easier if he were outside. A shiver ran down my spine from anxiety. I glanced up signalizing that I was in position, Leo nodded back.
I turned my gaze towards the door as it creaked open, it's old hinges clearly not oiled. A figure emerged just as I got my weapon ready to use. I was about to quietly creep behind the man when I realized that he was not the culprit because of his innocent smile.
Shrinking my weapon, I put it swiftly into my pocket. I could hear a hiss from above but ignored it.
"Hello, Sir. Are you here for late night prayer?" I asked sweetly in an innocent tone of voice.
Along with spying, assassination, fighting, and art of defense, we had been taught the art of acting when speaking to someone who might have been suspicious to us.
The man glanced at me with a sly smile until he realized who I was. Leo and I were well known throughout the werewolf community as the "Twin Shadow" because of the way we fought, each completing the others move. Though what none of them did know was that we only got along on missions or when we were in training sessions. The two old werewolf heroes, Lyra and Will, had been like us but they had the witch Serafina Pekkala watching over them.
My mind took a few seconds to comprehend what my thoughts already had. If he had recognized us then that meant he was a werewolf. Realization struck me. This man was the culprit. I had not noticed his dark eyes until it was too late for me to react.
The culprit changed into his wolf form and stalked towards my now frozen figure, ready to strike me. Thoughts and unanswered questions clouded my head. What would happen when the master found out about this? I would surely be exempted from the one thing I could take pride in.
"Ziva!" The sudden sound of Leo took me out of my thoughts and made me face reality. I swiftly removed my weapon and defended myself with it. It worked for me long enough for Leo to take out the culprit from behind. The now dead werewolf tumbled towards the ground, letting out a small howl before he took his last breath. A group of excited scavengers rushed towards the dead wolf, ready to have a memorable feast.
A few werewolves came to the assassination sight. Soon, their memories would be erased by a hypnotism which the master would have to pay greatly to do. I sighed, it seemed I would never be able to pay for his kindness. A light stream of rain, slowly fell towards the ground. Leo glanced at me and walked away. I was sure the headmaster would hear of my failure to conceal any fact that a murder had happened but I was prepared for his harsh words.
~~~
I got up and decided to apologize to Leo. It had been my fault he had to get punished along with me. I walked up to him and looked towards the window, making sure that no one was there. Even if many people respected us, criminals were always on the lookout to kill us before they were killed themselves. This always made us alert at all times.
Just as I walking towards him, a shining bulb of light sparkled in the distance from the window and instinctively made me push Leo onto the ground, out of the way of the windows view.
"What are you-," He asked but got cut off as I let out a loud scream and tumbled onto the ground beside him.
The last thing I saw before I blacked out was Leo's horrified face.
