Chapter 14-Ziva

The white mist blurred my vision but seemed to clear as another image replaced it. I felt myself standing in a warm, lit room with a lady, a man, and what seemed to be their daughter. The lady seemed to be young with dark green eyes and a smile that looked like she was troubled but was trying to be happy. She sat on a rocking chair with her daughter who seemed to only be a month old. The man was leaning against the chair looking at the baby in front of him with a sad smile. He had messy brown hair and dark brown eyes that reminded me of Leo's. Standing there, I could feel the happiness radiating from them, but it seemed that they knew it wouldn't last forever.

"Will, what should we name her?" the lady asked the man,"It should be meaningful. Something that describes her just right."

"She should have a bright name. She is the one who brightened our days," The man, Will answered.

    "Why don't we name her-,"

Before she could answer, a small boy who was about one crawled into the room. He resembled his father entirely, almost like a baby twin brother. In his mouth he held a toy car and made happy giggling sounds every time he would smile. I felt warm inside as if I was the sister of that child.

The two elders, Lyra and Will, couldn't help but smile at the child's ambition. It felt like I had heard their names before somewhere but I couldn't remember where.

The scene changed and was replaced by another setting, this time in a small kitchen. Lyra, the boy, and another elder women I couldn't recognize were standing there with a gloomy atmosphere. They were speaking in low voices that made me lean in to hear.

"Please take care of Leo, Mary," Lyra cried to her desperately,"I don't want to hurt him.

I almost cried out in surprise. That was Leo? It was hard to believe Leo had been so vulnerable at some time in his life. A cute toddler whose heart had not been hardened.

"But Lyra, child. You have my support in taking care of him but why not-,"her voice went to a whisper as she said a name, as if the name itself was taboo,"wouldn't she be hurt more than Leo? Thinking that she will become the ruler if Leo is not there."

"I know Ziva will live. She has a bright future and Serafina will help her, I'm sure. Besides, Leo will get the curse from me if I keep him with me,"

Ziva? Me? Was she talking about me? But if she was, then that meant I was her daughter. Was she my mother. It was then that I noticed she was a werewolf with her dark eyes. I remembered that the man from before also had dark eyes. They couldn't be my parents because if they were, then I would have been a werewolf as well, which I was sure I wasn't. Even though, I had a deep premonition that I was thinking wrong. Before I could think deeper, Mary spoke again.

"Have you considered that Ziva could have been the one who would continue your curse?"

Silence followed this question. It was obvious that the question that she didn't want to hear had come to her consciousness. A stricken expression crossed her face and she let in a quivering breath.

"I'm-,"Lyra stammered,"I'm sure she'll be okay. She has the powers of the Alpha, and she'll be able to refrain from catching the curse. I just know it."

The older women, Mary, seemed to want to argue but stopped herself. She must have realized that the words Lyra had said were only to ease her own pain.

Once again, the screen in front of me changed, this time into a dark thundery night. The oil street lamps flickered out as a streak of lightning plummeted from the inky sky. As before, Lyra was also in this scene. It was as if the Oracle was trying to tell me that somehow, this lady was important for me to know about.

A small lit hut was near me and a cloaked figure who I recognized as Lyra stood their. She looked older somehow as if many years had passed. Her frightened face sent a chill down my spine.

She held her hand up to knock while hiding her face in the cloak. The door opened silently as I saw Mary peek through with a worried expression. She turned back to say a few words that were too quiet to be heard before she too walked into the discouraging night.

Lyra removed her hood and began to talk to her, still frightened but her look had a deeper meaning now. It seemed to be sadness but had a glimpse of something else I wasn't sure of.

"Ziva, Ziva has the curse. The very curse I tried so hard to keep from her,"she was close to a sob but tried to cover it with a stern mask,"I should have listened to you. Forget this, how is Leo?"

"He's alright. Getting along with Melody fine. But is it fine for you to be here?" Mary answered.

"I don't have much time before the curse will control me. When it does, promise me run away before I do anything to harm you,"

"I'll promise only if you tell me the truth. Why did you give me Leo and not Ziva. You knew the curse could only be inherited by girls but you still gave Leo to me instead. Why did you do that."

"I was being selfish,"

"Selfish?"

"I knew that if I kept Ziva with me she would eventually get the curse and when that happens, I'll slowly be able to rid myself of it. In truth, I did it only for self gain. Will tried to stop me but I wouldn't listen to him. The pain from the curse had overthrown my common sense. Now that she has it, I feel guilty," She seemed to be sorrowful but deep inside, I somehow knew she wasn't entirely.

Mary was looking startled and didn't seem to know what to say. At this Lyra continued.

"I told you the truth, now you must go. Even if the curse has been removed, I still have some of it in me. Don't worry, I'll protect Ziva more now. I'll do my best. I'll do all the things I missed doing for the past six years. I'll-," at that moment, it seemed that she had started blabbering all the things that came to her mind before her eyes turned a dark shade of red. And I could help but feel that she felt the same thing I had many times since I broke the link.

Mary seemed frightened as she backed away. She was about to run but stayed there, knowing that she couldn't fulfill her promise. Lyra seemed to have lost any sense of herself and her being was replaced by a stranger.

"Lyra, snap out of it. You know you can get rid of the curse. You need to believe in yourself," she held strong despite the growing fear she showed.

Suddenly, the door from the hut from before opened and a small girl walked out. I gasped as it occurred to me what could happen.

"Mommy, when are we going back home? Oh hello stranger. I'm Melody," I sucked in my breath as I looked at the innocent child smiling through a toothed grin that showed she hadn't earned all her baby teeth yet.

Mary looked towards Melody and put her behind her.

"Melody, go back to Leo," the child didn't seem to catch the urgency in her mother's voice and remained there.

"Are we playing hide and seek?"

"Melody, please,"

"I see we're hiding from stranger. Alright. I'll hide right here behind you,"

As she was about to plead again, Lyra was ready to advance. I closed my eyes. Such a girl didn't deserve to die. She was too young. Even if I didn't understand anything about the curse, I knew that it was a burden to hold and I wouldn't have been surprised if I had been selfish like Lyra and tried to get rid of it but I would have used another way. One that wouldn't harm anyone. At that moment, I hated that women the most. No matter her reasons.

I hadn't known my eyes had been closed until I heard a blood curling scream. I slowly opened one eye, afraid of what I would see. It was as if my first memory had been repeated. There on the ground lay Mary with her daughter Melody laid beside her. They were holding hands as if unity could have saved them. Leo walked out of the door at exactly at that moment and I was shocked to see he looked like he had when I had first met him, on the night my parents had died.

"I see you're a part of this family as well. Are you now," she hissed with cruelty as her eyes turned an even darker shade of red,"then as a reward, I'll also strike you down. You might be the one, and I don't want you to go lose. '

Leo seemed to tremble as he realized what had happened in front of him. He began to cry for his father. I felt sorry for him but then I wondered if he knew that the women standing in front of him was his real mother.

She was about to strike Leo when I noticed the golden knife in her hand. It was the same knife I had found in front of the door to my parents room that faithful night. I tried to come up with a reason for it but couldn't.

Just when she was about to strike, a werewolf came to her and told her many things but at that moment, I was too occupied to notice what he was saying. One statement in particular caught my attention though.

"Lyra, don't listen to her if you know what's good for you. Don't forget I'm here for you,"

From the voice I knew it was Will but what startled me was the fact that Alastair had told me those same words when my mind had been fogged up. At that moment, I realized I had the same curse she had. Would it be a coincidence if she and I have the same curse and her daughters name was Ziva who she had said had her curse now? I wasn't sure it was and I began to wonder what the probability of me being her daughter was. If it were true, that would also mean I was a werewolf. I remembered Alastair's words, 'humans shouldn't be able to hear her.'

I seemed to miss out on what was happening as the werewolf and Lyra had both disappeared and Headmaster Vain had appeared.

Before I could question any further, the image of the present scene disappeared and I saw an image of the six years old me standing in the doorway of a room with two bodies. When I payed attention to the two people laying there, I notice they were Lyra and Will. My mother and father. I finally remembered who Lyra and Will were. They were the famous werewolf heroes and the leaders, alpha, of the werewolves.

As soon as the realization hit me, I was surprised to come back to the Oracles room.

"Am I her daughter. That wicked woman's daughter. She used me. How could she. But that also means I'm a-,"
