Chapter 12-Ziva
I quietly waited on one of the trees surrounding the school making sure to keep an eye out for any student out past curfew or for the familiar footsteps of the headmaster. I turned around and found a girl wandering the grounds. I jumped off the tree so that I was in front of her.
"Your not suppose to be here," I told her slowly,"It's past curfew."
"But, I heard Zero was here," She said in a shaky voice.
Zero was the most popular boy in the school along with Leo and most recently Alastair. Many girls would try to talk to them but it wasn't an excuse we handled for people who broke the curfew.
"Zero isn't here," I told her firmly,"I suggest you go back before I report you."
She gave me a distasteful look before walking back to the dorm. I shrugged. It was my job after all even if it hurt people.
The sound of footsteps echoed through the night as I positioned myself back on the tree. The shadow of the headmaster followed the noise as he exited the school grounds towards the town square. I let out a sigh of relief. Good thing he wouldn't be able to see me if I left my post now.
As soon as I saw that he was out of earshot, I silently followed the path I was accustomed to him using to get to the temple. Twice, I heard rustling behind me but only found a tree. The third time I looked behind me, I spotted brown hair and knew who it was. I smiled with glee at what I would do to uncover the followers identity.
I paused as I saw the temple ahead of me. I guess we had reached our destination. Now was the perfect time to carry out my plan.
I pretended to jump but instead purposely tripped over a tree branch and fell on my side. Rolling myself into a ball, I let out a small moan as if I was seriously hurt. Then, I slowly got up and fell again, making sure to look like I could not walk. I tried once more and I could see the figure moving closer. I grabbed onto a branch and slid myself so that I held the figure tightly. My hand grasped onto her back and I punched her into her stomach so that she fell onto the floor unconscious.
I looked down at Sky. I needed to find something out without her with me. My mind began to blur like it had before but I shook my head and remembered Alastair's voice.
I walked without a second thought to the building in front of me, leaving Sky to fend for herself. I hardly felt any sympathy for her when I should have. My hand held on to the handle and I was appalled that it was unlocked. Cautiously peering into the hall that loomed on the other side of the door, I tip toed to a tall vase outside a brightly lit room.
I heard the voice of a man as I hid behind the vase. It sounded similar to Alastair's voice but wasn't exactly the same.
"Then, I will see you again, Oracle." The man's voice filled the room.
"I am warning you not to do what you intend to," I guessed that was the voice of the lady we had spotted before.
I watched frightened as the figure took to the door without knowing about my presence. It was Alastair's father just as I had predicted. I sighed as he walked away when I was called upon.
"Ziva. I have been waiting for you. Please come in," The lady called to me.
I walked shakily into the room, thinking that maybe this night hadn't been too lucky.
"Who are you?"I asked.
"I am the Oracle, Serafina,"she announced briefly.
"I apologize if I did something I shouldn't have?" I heard myself saying.
"I accept your apology and I was the one who invited you. I want to show you the truth,"She began,"Ziva would you like to know about your past?"
It seemed that at that moment the answers I was looking for we're finally found but I wasn't naive enough to accept right away.
"I will show you but there is a price," the Oracle asked.
"What do I need to pay to see what you want to show me,"
The Oracle looked thoughtful. Her childish face looking old as she sat there. I noticed that her seat looked as if she had never set foot off of it. Her face brightened as if she knew what to say.
"How about playing a game," she asked.
I shrugged but wasn't sure. She hadn't answered my previous question.
"Alright. Then let's play a small game,"the Oracle smiled,"If you win, I will show it to you. But if you lose..... you'll die."
I eyed her suspiciously.
"So you're saying, in other words, that we have to play a game that I haven't agreed to that can possibly get me killed and I don't know if it's even worth it or not?" I asked.
She nodded.
"Can I not play this game and just casually leave, pretending we never saw you or know anything about you?" I asked half heartedly. I wanted to know about my past for the last 10 years.
"I'm afraid not,"
I backed up towards the door and was about to run when they shut behind me. No way! With this, I would resent the people who came up with magical Oracles that did good to people. This Oracle was not a kind one in my eyes.
