Chapter 10-Leo
I jumped out of my hiding place when I sensed that something wasn't right. As I looked up, I realize with astonishment who it was. I tried to shield Ziva from him as I pushed her behind me.
"I see your father, enrolled you into this school," I voiced bitterly.
"Why? Can he not do so or is this school banned from werewolves?" He asked with a smirk.
"What are you trying to do?"
"Look. I'm only following my father's orders. I didn't mean to hurt your slave," He mentioned, now in a serious tone.
It had been true I didn't treat her very nicely but it had been out of my anger at her mother. Even if I hated her, it wasn't enough for me to think of her as my slave.
"She is not," I told him. I could see that Ziva was not listening to our conversation by the way she was crouched over though I thought I saw her twitch.
"Yeah, I know, dude. Chill. It was only a joke." He told me with a sly smile.
"I knew that," Though I didn't,"You never answered my question. What are you trying to do?"
"I'll tell you if you answer my question,"
I hesitated before answering."OK, but you first,"
"I'm here to take your place as her protector. I wouldn't mind taking your place."
How was that possible? For a second, I thought, why should I care? I hadn't wanted the job in the first place but I suddenly felt that I had to protect her.
"Now I've done my part of the deal. It's your turn to answer, Leo," He smirked.
I had forgotten the other half. What was wrong with me?
"Now, what should I ask," He made a gesture of thinking,"Oh yes, I got it. Why are you trying to protect her? You told me, back when we were little that you didn't want to protect her. Where did that determination go?"
I turned around to see Ziva and found her back to her senses. I bit my lip in an attempt to hide my annoyance. Before I could stop her, she stood up and moved between us. I could see that she was limping slightly but the worst of the pain had gone away.
"I don't need a protector," she stated, determined.
Those words made my mind feel calmer as if I was free now. Ziva's words seemed to break the protectiveness I had once felt towards her.
I looked towards her and saw her eyes turn red. The same dark shade as the eyes of my family's murderer. I stood there looking into those thirsty red eyes but found no change to them. Alastair, seeing how I was not moving, turned to Ziva and whispered something into her ear. I slowly saw her tinted red eyes glow and turn green once more. I let out a breath as I got into my head that I imagined that. Even if I treated Ziva badly, I only did it because I wanted her to learn from her mistakes. But even if I told her that , she wouldn't believe me, I'm sure.
I looked towards her to ensure that she was okay when I saw her smiling sadly to Alastair. I couldn't help but think that they should be painted into a picture. I was surprised that I felt no previous hatred or envy towards her anymore. I only felt glad that Ziva had become a better person as if she was my own sister.
A group of footsteps echoed behind me as I saw my father walk towards us.
"Alastair, how are you doing? I hope you're enjoying the school. I see Ziva has made her own decision of having no protector. Classes are starting. You should start heading back," He replied in a rush as if he had heard news that wasn't something he wanted.
I was startled at his sudden appearance but also at the smirk and the hunger that vibrated from him as he looked at Ziva. I felt a sudden jolt that something unplanned for was about to happen and it somehow related to Ziva.
