Chapter 35
Steve, Sam, and Natasha had been called into a remote mountain range because they'd received a tip that a HYDRA weapons exchange was going down. For Steve, it was not only a chance to score one over HYDRA, but also to further investigate Namara's wherabouts.
The plane landed with a thud a few meters away from the drop zone. Silently, the team filed out.
The clearing where the deal was supposed to happen was abandoned except a a massive black box. A box that looked strangely like the one Jay had been transported in.
As Steve approached he could hear snarling from inside, like there was a wild dog trapped inside.
"Sam, help me get this open," He called over his shoulder.
Sam and Steve worked together to break the lock and pull the door open.
The second the door was open, something burst out in a flash, heading straight for Natasha. It tackled her, throwing her to the ground, and Natasha gave a sharp cry of pain as the masked figure sank a pair of claws into her arm.
Steve grabbed the masked woman, throwing her back. Instead of hitting the ground, the woman did some sort of flip midair, landing on both her feet like a cat. Then she raced back toward Steve, raking his shield with her claws. Her nails left long marks in the paint on his SHIELD.
There were several loud bangs, as Natasha emptied her pistol's magazine into the woman. The woman didn't stop, didn't seem affected by the bullets at all.
Sam grabbed her from behind, carrying her up into the sky, and then dropping her. She landed on her feet, but the impacted knocked off her mask.
Steve gasped, he knew those eyes. Those eyes, one the color of the ocean, the other of a forest. Namara.
But those were her eyes and weren't her eyes, there was no spark in them. They were empty, save for a rabid glint. Her eyes were panicked, like a wild animal.
Namara snarled at him, lunging forward. Steve grabbed her by her throat, holding her away from him. She brought one of her legs up, slamming it into his chest and throwing him to the ground.
It was like she was possessed. She had a tireless and maniacal energy, like all the nerves in her body were going off at once. Her eyes were, more than ever, were the eyes of a crazed wild animal. Namara had completely lost her mind.
