Twenty Six
With a quick push, Scott spins his body across the floor, ignoring the burning of his bruised body as he kicks his leg out, knocking the guard's gun from his hand and sending it sliding across the room.
"What's the–" Before the guard can react, Scott's already flinging himself from the ground and wrapping his arms around the man's waist, driving his feet into the ground as he tackles the both of them to the floor, Scott falling on top of the two.
Our heads snap to the commotion and watch as Scott raises his fist and lands a blow to the guard's face, sending a wailing grunt through the warehouse. Scott winds up again, but the guard throws an elbow to Scott's jaw, sending him flailing back as Scott grip's the guard's collar, bringing him with Scott before Scott manages to land a jab to the man's nose, sending him off balance and falling away from Scott.
"For the love of all things holy," Blake huffs and raises his gun to Scott's back.
My eyes go wide as I watch Blake cock back the hammer and steady his aim.
"No!" I scream, lunging from my position and throwing my body into Blake, sending him stumbling as a shot rings out in my ears, blocking out all other sounds as I fall to my knees.
Scott flinches at the shot, and turns his body, having heard my scream. I'm hunched on the ground, a hand pressed to my ear.
"Mitch!" Scott makes a move towards me, but he's suddenly tackled from behind, sending him flying to the ground as a blow to his skull sends him reeling.
The world swirls around me as a piercing ring echoes through my skull. I rub at my ear, trying to make is disappear, but despite the wailing in my ears, I still hear the heavy footsteps as they appear behind me.
I try to crawl, knowing Blake is close, but a foot stomps on my ankle, my scream the only sound I now hear as a sharp burn claws up my leg, the pain pounding against my skin, desperately trying to escape. I fold my leg into my chest, clutching at my ankle, hoping my fingers can somehow ease the nauseating pain that is scorching from within me.
Blake steps into my line of view as warm tears stream down my face. He squats besides me, his jaw tight and nostrils flared, taking a moment before his brown eyes lock with mine.
"I've had just about enough of you, darlin'." His spit flies in my face.
"Consider our deal terminated."
Blake raises his gun and presses the barrel between my eyes.
I suck in a breath, and before I can even close my eyes, a shot rings out. Blood splatters across my face and Blake's expression goes blank before his body collapses onto the ground next to me.
My lungs stop as I stare at Blake's defeated figure, blood pouring from his head, pooling around him and seeping into his jacket.
My chest heaves at the sight and my stomach fists into knots.
"Oh god," I breath out, rolling myself away from the grisly sight.
A hand lands on my shoulder and I gasp as I pivot to the side, my heart pounding against my chest as blue eyes find mine.
"Hey, hey, hey," my eyes go wild, searching behind Scott for Blake's man, confused as to how Scott can suddenly be by my side.
Scott's hands wrap around my shoulders, the side of a gun in his left hand pressing against my sleeve. My eyes glance down at the weapon, but Scott's grip gives me a shake, forcing me to look at him.
"Are you okay?" His free hand brushes over my face and into my hair, pushing away the disheveled heap as his eyes scan my face. I glance over my shoulder at Blake's crumbled body, the blood flowing into tributaries around him.
"Hey." Scott's hand gently glides my attention back to him. "Look at me," Scott instructs, his blue eyes somehow vibrant against his bloodied face.
"Are you okay?" He says slowly this time, his eyes boring into mine. My lips part, but all that leaves them is a gasp before I crumple against Scott's chest, tears pouring from my eyes onto his shirt, the same shirt he had been wearing when I saw him in this morning.
His arms tighten around my shoulders as he holds me against him, his head resting on top of mine as I sob.
"It's okay," he runs a hand down the back of my head. "It's gonna be okay." His voice is soft, his lips murmuring against my hair. "It's all over."
His lips press against my temple.
"It's all over."
