Chapter 56
I can't stand this, I swear these two are the definition of idiots. Their stupid plan is asking for us to get attacked I swear they should just wave a big bright flag yelling "hey we know what you are doing come and get us." To make it worse they are telling the Base Commander about our plan so we don't get in trouble. If he is okay with it we will go on with the rest of the plan.
First, off they are asking for the Commander's permission so I don't get kicked out of the base for possibly killing someone. Then I am going to be staying at the base instead of going with my group for a day off. That alone should catch the attention of the head witch right away as I never take days off unless they are planned weeks before. If that isn't enough Damon is going to be sending a message to them asking to meet alone. Come on you never ask that you are just asking to be attacked. Eric planned the meeting outside the third building so that if they don't plan to meet us we can intercept them on their way to the classrooms.
Eric and Damon will be at two different closets armed with their preferred weapons as well as a long-range weapon. Eric will be on the ground level well Damon is on the third floor both rooms have windows for a quick exit if I need help. Like I said idiots, pure idiots, just asking for a quick death.
My boots click on the ground over and over as I walk from wall to wall. Where are they it should not take this long to talk to the Base Commander. Rapid steps come in my direction, exhaling I scowl at the two idiots as they enter the room. "It takes you that long to ask if we can kill some people that have killed a dozen others?"
A breathy laugh leaves Damon "well I don't think he would have agreed if we put it that way."
Rolling my eyes I grab my weapons from the floor attaching them to my belt "at least he agreed now I won't get thrown out for killing someone or two maybe three...whatever. I already sent your letter by the way."
Eric looks at me tilting his head "how did you send the letter you aren't supposed to leave the room?"
Grinning I watch him as I clasp my sword "I can do more than just move the elements you know."
Eric looks at me and deadpanned "no you haven't told us what you can do so we don't."
"Right to put it quickly I sent it through the shadows I will explain later we don't have time right now we have to go." The twinkle in Damon's eyes dims at my words he still nods tightening his belt. Eric's face grows serious as he follows me into the hall. The walk from our training room to the meeting spot ends slower than I would like.
Eric slaps my shoulder squeezing it gently "be careful Kaindra I know what they did and what they want to do-"
"They want to kill Enya and every other person here that doesn't join them I can't let that happen nor will I," I say firmly resolving as hard as steel.
He nods "good luck," not waiting for a response he slips into the shadows.
Turning to Damon he doesn't wait for words as he pulls me into a bone-breaking hug. "Be honourable but not merciful the bastards don't deserve it."
I nod against his shoulder pulling him in tight "you do know I am not going off to war right."
He chuckles pulling away "yeah but one can never be too careful."
Holding him at arm's length I pat his shoulders smiling "thanks, Dam."
He smiles "any time Indra." Squeezing his shoulders one more time I slip outside into the sunlight Damon moves upstairs feet silent. Looking to the windows two thumbs up pop out before fading into the shadows again. Nodding I take deep breaths turning my back to the windows.
Jordan's not here to watch my back anymore but I have two new allies and friends there for me. But what if I can't do it what if I am unable to protect these people without Jordan? Stop Kaindra Jordan trained you for a year you will be fine. What would Jordan tell you to do?
"Jordan would tell me to center myself and remind me that I am more than a girl I am Kaindra a powerful hybrid a child connected to the earthborn to protect," I mumble closing my eyes as I center myself picturing his face as he lectured me over and over again with the same words. A small smile forms at the memory, he would say similar words to Josh, Everly, and Jaylin any time they started to drought themselves, he was such a great father to the three and an even greater role model.
"I see you are in a good mood vampling happy about your decision to join us." Michal's taunting voice snaps me out of my memories.
Staying where I am I watch the fence as zombies walk around following people on horses. "Yes, I am happy about my decision not to join you. I thought I made my decision clear the other times I said it." I pause pretending to think it over as I face him now. "Unless you don't know what the word no means it can be confusing to some people. I could say it differently for you if that helps?"
He scowls once I look at him standing there all alone "I know what the word no means vampling."
"Oh, 'cause for a second there I thought you didn't with your statement and all." His scowl deepens at my sugary sweet tone "where are the others did they leave you when they learned you had a stick up your butt that happens to so many people I know."
He snarls his hand hovering over his sword "no they sent me to deal with the trash infecting our system."
I snap my fingers "so that's why you're here then taking out the trash by leaving that makes so much sense now. Sorry, not sorry man but you are kind of a buzzkill to their whole evil vibe with your brooding and whole blood thing." I make little fangs with my fingers hissing.
His snarl deepens "that is not why I am here vampling I was sent to meet you then deal with the little problem we missed a while back." My eyes widen for a second before I slide on my innocent girl mask again, he grins seeing my reaction. "So vampling here knows then huh she knows we killed the girl's family."
I snarl feeling my fangs lengthen slightly "don't you dare mention her family in front of me."
His grin widens as the tables turn in our fight of words. "Why vampling you would have loved their blood so sweet like candy laced with magic you can still have some if you join us, I will let you have the girl."
I shake at his words the blood lust surfacing after being without it for so long "no." I pant as my fangs lengthen my inner vampire shaking with the need to tear his throat out at the mention of spilling Enya's blood. I smirk liking that my vampire agrees with me. Michal's grin drops noticing my change, he grabs his sword pulling it out his eyes dripping red. "You will not harm another person at this base again."
He snarls sword raised "not up to you vampling."
Grinning I pull out my sword letting the light shine off of the black blade. "It is up to me vampling."
He roars launching at me, I meet him halfway blocking his attack with my sword. He bares his fangs at me pushing me back. Sliding to the side I evade his oncoming attack spinning around him. He snarls coming at me again we continue like this for minutes he attacks me evading.
He shakes with rage "what vampling scared to attack me," he sneers.
"No" I dismiss his taunts staying focused on the fight. He snarls again coming at me with more strength than the last time. I step back ducking as I throw a jab to his midsection.
He sneers "that's all you got."
I shrug "you said to attack you I did."
Coming at me again we continue our dance of blades exchanging blows. His rage grows each time he misses his mark as I continue to hit him. "You're fast I can say that vampling."
I smirk "I was trained by the best."
He swings for my neck making me duck and roll out of the way as his foot comes out. "And who might that be?"
I pull out a dagger filling my other hand "no one of importance."
He ignores my answer continuing to come at me. Getting bored after five more minutes of the same thing I decided to make some conversation again. "So I was wondering why didn't you guys just compel everyone when you got here instead of going through all this trouble?"
His frown depends "where's the fun in that, and we tried someone put snapdragon in the water."
I giggle at his tight voice "guilty."
"We thought it was you we never knew why as you would be unable to compel them but they don't know what you are so you wouldn't need to." I grin cutting his sword arm with my dagger. He hisses as it heals his red eyes darkening.
Once again we continue on I watch in silent joy as his eyes get darker the more and more I cut and hit him well he still never gets a hit in on me. All of a sudden he grins worry fills me thinking of the worst but my sight clarifies that Enya and the others are fine and no backup has come. "Little vampling have you wondered who killed your friends."
I stumble into a kick at his bold statement, ignoring the pain I clear my face of emotion "no I have not."
His grin turns into a smirk "oh why oh why vampling this is interesting."
"Now why is it interesting Michal?" I ask sliding through his legs.
He begins to laugh starting quietly until his laughter turns hysteric all of a sudden he stops locking eyes with me he smiles fangs gleaming "they called for you you know they called so loud so desperately but you never came."
I freeze barely registering his crazed laughter or the slice of his blade on my back, how would he know they called for me unless he was there? "You, you were there."
He grins watching the dark blood slide down his blade. "Their screams were so sweet to hear as I drained them dry." My vision blurs as the image of their torn throats invades my mind. "They fought so hard for no reason they should have known they were dead happens every time you know makes it so much more fun when you drain them though we always like the hunt."
My vision goes red locking onto the smirking vampire in front of me. Slowly his smirk falls as I begin to walk toward him. Sheathing my weapons I raise my hands to my waist, he drops his sword clutching at his stomach. "What's happening to me?" His question falls on deaf ears as I watch his face contort in pain.
I smirk as he falls to his knees scratching at his chest. Twisting my hand he begins to scream as his skin bubbles. Rolling on the ground he scratches chest at his chest as his skin begins to blacken having no time to heal. He lets out a blood-curdling scream as his body lights up in black flames. I stand there raising the temperature of the fire as he rolls on the ground screaming. I feel nothing as I watch him slowly burn away to ashes.
Once the last of his body turns to ashes I cut the fire "you are right it is very enjoyable to hear someone scream." My monotone voice glides on the wind nothing making a sound. I turn around waving my hand over my shoulder blowing away the last of the ashes. Damon and Eric make no move to follow me as I walk away.
No emotion flows through me just emptiness at the thought of the man who murdered my friends now dead, by my hands.
