a few days later hyunjoo was in charge of changing jaewon's band aids again. since she knew it caused him a lot of pain, she had bought some coconut water the day before to make it more bearable for him.

still, she was really curious about how he had ended up in this horrible state but then again she hesitated to ask him directly.

like before jaewon was sitting in the wheelchair infront of the window, when hyunjoo entered the room. originally she had intended to remain quiet for a moment, but as soon as she opened the door jaewon turned his head and looked at her with wide eyes. "joo?"

"yes, i came to change your band aids." eventually a small smile started to tug at the edges of her lips. "i know it hurts a lot, so i brought you something." she softly places the bottle on the table.

"for me?" asked jaewon, but the nurse just nodded.

after she had changed his band aids, jaewon reached out for the bottle with coconut water, though his hands were barely able to open it; he almost looked happy.

"just don't drink to fast, it'll hurt your neck, since you're still wounded." warned hyunjoo, but it was already too late as jaewon took a huge sip. "i don't care about the pain." and after another sip he added. "but this tastes good."

and hyunjoo felt her heart ache and flutter at the same time.

later that night she came back to jaewon's room, only to find him still awake. she asked whether he still needed something and instead of replying he asked something she really hadn't expected, though this was normal when talking to jaewon. "can you teach me how to read? the letters don't make sense in my head anymore."

she didn't question what he said and just got him a childrens' book in order to read it to him.

when she came back, he had already fallen asleep on the wheelchair, so she set the book aside and studied his sleeping features for a while.

after all those years why had he decided to start speaking again and why out of all people to her? hyunjoo really couldn't figure it out, but she was happy that he did.
