IN MY CARAVAN
Taehyung hadn't seen Jungkook around school all day. Their kiss had engraved itself into his brain since yesterday noon and he couldn't shake the feeling that Jungkook was avoiding him because of it. He wondered if this was the end of their friendship. He wondered if that one action of leaning in had now made them break apart.
Jungkook had kissed him back just as feverishly and the intensity had shocked Taehyung. Thinking back to it now, he should have realized that kissing Jungkook while having a boyfriend would hurt both of them. He hadn't thought about it in that moment. His instincts had taken over and then they had found themselves making out behind the bookracks.
He needed to find Jungkook. He needed to talk to him about it.
Dialing the phone number Jungkook had called him from, he hoped to catch the alpha on the phone. He was leaning against the side of the school at the end of the day, one leg perched against the brick wall.
The phone rang and rang but an answer never came. With a frown he dialed the number and tried again. This time a person picked up, though it didn't sound like Jungkook at all.
"Hello?", the person on the other side of the phone answered, sounding utmost confused. Noises of cars passing by and people talking covered up the background.
"Hi, I'm looking for Jungkook? Is he there?", the blonde asked. He nervously curled the string of his hoodie around his finger.
"I don't think so", the man sounded unsure.
Taehyung's face fell at that information, "Oh, so he isn't home?"
"Home? Kid, you're calling a pay phone", the voice replied and the omega gasped at that. The man seemed to realize that the person calling the payphone hadn't been aware of that fact. "You didn't know".
"I'm sorry sir", Taehyung replied, shocked at the fact Jungkook had been calling him from a payphone last time they talked. He could vaguely remember the alpha telling him about his father needing the phone. Had that been a lie? "I'm hanging up now".
"Alright, bye", the older man hooked the phone back in and Taehyung could hear the beep coming from the other side of the line.
He slowly pushed himself off the wall and looked around before he started moving towards the entrance of school again. School had finished just twenty minutes ago and he had seen Jungkook walk out but had been too scared to go after him.
Maybe he could find out his address if he went to the information desk. It sounded a bit creepy to do so but if he couldn't reach him on the phone, then he needed to be a bit more daring.
"Hi", he smiled at the lady sitting behind the desk, "Could I have Jeon Jungkook's home address?"
The lady pushed her glasses further onto her nose and gave him a narrowed look, "And why?"
That was a good question. He supposed telling her Oh we made out in the library yesterday but I have a boyfriend so he was really upset and so now he's avoiding me and I tried calling him but apparently the only number I have of him is that of a payphone and I can't stand to wait until tomorrow to talk to him would be a good idea.
Fortunately for him, the woman's eyes widened. "Oh! Aren't you that new omega that befriended him?"
She didn't leave any room for him to agree as she rambled on. "He's been having such a tough time in school and it always pained me to see him on his own. I have an alpha son of my own who's having trouble controlling his wolf. I wouldn't be able to bare seeing my son go through such a thing".
Taehyung had to blink a few times until he realized she was finally letting him speak, "Yes ma'am that's me".
"You want to visit him?", she asked as she grabbed a pen and paper.
The omega had his arms slung back, feeling a bit embarrassed, "Yes we had a small argument yesterday and I want to clear things between us".
"Here dear", she slid a note over, an address written on it in cursive writing, "You sound like a good friend".
And that's how Taehyung found himself following his google maps app towards what was supposedly Jungkook's house. His feet carried him towards a small street that eventually opened up into a field of grass where multiple caravans, trailers and tents were situated.
His feet carried him even further until he was stood in front of a small and moldy caravan that had the same house number the lady at the desk had written down on the sticky note. The phone almost slipped out of his hands as his eyes scanned the poor situation in front of him.
His hand trembled as he tentatively raised it to knock on the caravan's door. He knocked two times and then waited for someone to open the door. His eyes didn't dare wander around, afraid he'd start judging the caravan and Jungkook's living conditions.
Stumbling could be heard behind the door and not too long after, the door was opened. An older man with light brown hair showed himself and the smell of baked beans travelled into the open air.
A flowery scent also wafted into the air and Taehyung was surprised to find out that the man in front of him was also an omega.
"Hello?', the man asked, a frown on his face as his eyes met Taehyung's.
The omega smiled shyly, "Hi, my name's Kim Taehyung. I'm looking for Jungkook".
It was as if a switch had been turned on into the older man's eyes as they suddenly started sparkling. "You're Taehyung? The omega my son befriended?", the man asked as a bright smile washed over his face, "Come on in!"
Taehyung was surprised to find out that this young looking man was Jungkook's father. Compared to what his own father looked like, this man looked like he belonged in a model magazine. He couldn't have been too old when Jungkook was born.
"Thank you", he smiled before ducking down and stepping inside the caravan. He tried his hardest to keep his face straight when he took in the interior of the caravan.
On the inside it looked even smaller than he had expected it to be. Tears almost welled up in his eyes at the thought of Jungkook living in something like this when he himself lived in a home that could easily house ten people instead of the mere five that lived inside of it.
Jungkook's father turned off the small electric stove that was heating up a pot that probably contained baked beans. He then started throwing clothes into drawers and flung cushions back on the small bed. "Sorry for the mess", he awkwardly chuckled as Taehyung merely waited to be assigned a space to sit, "I'm Namjoon by the way".
"It looks cozy", the omega tried to croak out without looking too shocked. Jungkook's father merely smiled and pointed at a chair Taehyung could sit on. The omega took the seat and subtly looked around, "I take it Jungkook's not home?"
"No, since we don't have enough space for him to study, he always sits in the library after school so he can do his homework properly", the other man replied as he took a seat on the bed that creaked underneath his weight.
Taehyung's eyebrows furrowed at that. He had seen Jungkook walk out of school and take his bike. There was no way the alpha was still in school and so it was weird his father didn't know that. But he figured it wasn't his place to worry the man about his son's whereabouts so he just nodded.
"I'm very glad you decided to be friends with my son", Namjoon spoke up, "I have heard a lot about you. He seems a lot happier now".
"That's nice to hear", Taehyung smiled, his stomach bubbling at the thought of Jungkook telling his father about him, "I found it unfair how he was being treated by the other students".
"He's had it rough", the older man replied, lips curling into a frown, "Without his mother by his side to teach him the principles on how to be an alpha, he had never actually learnt how to properly control himself".
Taehyung was taken aback by this, "His mother was an alpha?"
"Yes, as you could probably have smelled by now, I'm an omega just like you", Namjoon replied, "I couldn't teach him anything about controlling his wolf. The police demanded me to take him to special classes after his first attack at school. We didn't have the money for such classes so I was forced to keep him at home for a while. Because of that he's now a year behind while he should actually be graduated already".
Taehyung nodded at that, empathy flowing through him, "Did he ever learn how to control his wolf? He seems fine now".
"Five years ago a man moved into this trailer park. He was a lone wolf, as we call it, a lonesome alpha that travels across the country. Jungkook grew fond of him and eventually learned how to be a proper alpha because of him. The man has moved now but Jungkookie still thinks greatly of him", Namjoon then let out a deep sigh, "I guess he was the father Jungkookie should have deserved to have".
"It's not your fault you were born as an omega", Taehyung retorted, not wanting the other to think so low of himself, "It must've been hard to raise him on your own".
"That's true, it's been hectic and often results into us getting into fights. But it also made us grow closer", Namjoon smiled, though it was a bit strained.
Then the door to the caravan opened.
