As springtime slumbered, autumn creeped in and stabbed it with a knife, and oranges and reds bled into the tree leaves, which soon fell to the sidewalk.

It was a rather odd day for the head detective of the police department, Nico di Angelo. He had heard some mighty sad things, and this case was one of them.

When he spoke to the only witnesses about a gruesome murder that the wife of the murdered man had called in, here's what the family had said:

They found the husband, Perseus Jackson, murdered on this Sunday morning. Annabeth Chase-Jackson, the sir's wife, called the police when she saw his bloody, limp body outside their front door, stashed oddly into the bushes.

Here's where each individual testifies separately:
• The wife, Annabeth, claims she was sleeping, tired from a long night of architectural design for, as she crazily claims, "The Gods of Olympus." (It is later on discovered that each individual in the family believes in the religion of Greek Mythology, and worshipped their favorite gods and goddesses as their missing parents; a result of a rough childhood.)
• The butler, Grover Underwood, was cleaning the closet. (He made a joke about Annabeth and Percy's daughter, Sadie, being "as straight as my kitchen pan.")
• The gardener, Juniper Underwood, claimed she was picking vegetables for dinner that might.
• The maid, Clarisse La Rue, was getting the mail, and hadn't noticed Mr. Jackson's hidden corpse.
• Sadie, the daughter, was in her room watching Finding Nemo.

After questioning each individual in the family, Nico di Angelo quickly came to the conclusion that the maid, who he later on discovered was the disliked member of the family to begin with, was guilty, and she was tried in court for 20 years in prison for the murder of Mr. Perseus Jackson--for, the mail does not come on Sundays (her story was the only one with a hole).

As Nico wrapped up the case, twiddling the skull ring on his finger, he sighed. Yet another murder in this odd season of fall.

Original Riddle (we do not own):
A man is found murdered on a Sunday morning. His wife calls the police, who question the wife and the staff, and are given the following alibis: the wife says she was sleeping, the butler was cleaning the closet, the gardener was picking vegetables, the maid was getting the mail, and the cook was preparing breakfast. Immediately, the police arrest the murdered. Who did it and how did the police know?
The maid. There is no mail on Sundays.
