CHAPTER ØNE
A scream echoed through the already noisy corridor, "we've done nothing" a voice meekly called out, "have you no soul?" cried another. "For violation of law 09:29, Chapter 12, you will become a resident within this prison for the rest of your mortal days" the tall dark figure spoke with his booming voice, the corridors became louder. The noise masked a man who scurried amongst the prisoners in the shadows, his shaved head hidden under the hood of his jacket, he clenched a jacket like his own tightly in his hand. "Your souls are unwell, in the streets of DEMA you must be cleansed, you may never leave but your souls will" the figure breathed a raspy, heavy breath before continuing, "we will make sure they are fit to move on". The red cloaked soldiers shoved the last of the prisoners in their concrete cells, "please I'm only thirteen, I need my parents" a young teens sobs echoed down the long stretch of corridor. The figure ducked into an empty cell further down the corridor, "hush kid you were singing, you understand your rights". They locked the cages before exiting the room, scanning their frantic faces.
The man slowly exited the cell, closing the door gently. He crept through the corridor, staying close to the wall and close to the ground. He reached up shoving the key into the cells keyhole and turning it as slowly as he could. 'Be quiet' he mouthed at the people inside, he placed his pointer over his mouth before whispering to them. "Stay here I'm going to unlock the other cell" he gently closed the door before scurrying across the corridor, he reached up, unlocking the other cell door. He looked towards the entrance making sure they were in the clear, he stood up and gently opened the door before whispering to them "where's the boy?" all of their eyes darted to the back of the cell, a small framed boy came forward. He sniffled and wiped the tears from his eyes, he stood at the man's chest and looked up at him. The man gently removed his hood revealing his soft features, he looked and the boy with sad eyes before handing him the jacket, striped with yellow across the chest. The boy gingerly took the jacket, he looked quizzically at the man, "I'm Tyler, welcome to the revolution" the man smiled gently at him. Tyler's smile dropped as he stared at the spears left beside the main door he picked one up and harshly shoved it through the handle of the door, pinning it shut. He pushed roughly banging the door to be sure it would hold, "RUN" he screamed as he started to run down the corridor. The cell doors opened and the swarm of people piled out of the enclosed place, the boy running in front of the rest to catch up with Tyler, his black hair swaying as he did.The guards banged against the door pushing to get in, Tyler hit the concrete wall, arms out. "DROP THE LADDER" he screamed at the paned window, four gloved hands pulled the frame out and pushed a metal ladder through. It screeched against the walls as it fell to the man's feet, he held it steady as the swarm climbed. The boy clawed his way out the window as the people grabbed him hastily, Tyler watched the door as the guards tried to force their way in. They slowly started to break the spear as it bent and whined with every bash. "GO GO GO" he yelled holding his throat as his voice cracked, climbed onto the ladder as the last person slipped through the window. The guards busted in, they watched as Tyler slid through the window. His feet thudding against the concrete surrounding the palace, "go, leave the ladder" he calmly stated to the other yellow and olive green clothed people. "something isn't right lead them to safety" his voice cracked as his eyes darted around, he was paranoid, it was too easy to slip away from them. "What's wrong Tyler?" a rebel piped up looking around, she waved the rest away as they departed into the dense dark city. The boy walked towards the paranoid man, Tyler didn't budge he just looked around. "It's ok Tyler, come on before something bad hap-" he was cut off as a arrow flew past him hitting the woman, her blonde hair swaying as she hit the ground. Tyler pulled up the boys hood and pushed him towards the others without a word, the woman screamed out in pain. Tyler rushed over to her, scanning her face, trying to find a way to help. He gently lifted her up, the arrow poking out her shoulder, the yellow she sported turning a dark crimson. He picked her up, cradling her in his arms, "why aren't they shooting at us?" she asked, muffled from her face being pressed to his chest. "They got one of us, that's all they wanted" he bit his lip harshly as he stared running into the city, he looked back at the lone guard watching them from the bridge. He feet thudded harshly as he watched the others slip into the condemned house that seemed like it was rotting from the inside out, he looked around still paranoid before slipping into the door himself.
The damp and dirty tunnel echoed as they walked under the city, "is she ok?" the boy pulled his hood down, Tyler walked passed him "she will be once we get to camp" he said meekly to him. "What's your name by the way?" he ask as the boy tried to catch up with him, "I know your stage name is X but what's your real name?". The boy sighed and hesitated before answering "Stanley.." he grunted slightly as he answered, Tyler laughed softly "I take it you don't like that name" the boy grunted again "it's an ugly name". There was a brief silence before Tyler piped up again "if this question makes you uncomfortable you don't have to answer but—" Stanley interrupted him "let me guess— what's wrong with you?" Tyler flinched as his tone. "I'm sorry if I scared you.." Stanley softened his words "everyone seems to look at me like a freak because of my vitiligo, it's my skin losing its color" Tyler shook his head as if to say 'I understand'. "Being a "freak" isn't all bad you know?, I'm a freak too and I'm helping lead people to safety" Stanley laughed "what's so freaky about you?, you're a sweet dude saving people". Tyler chuckled lowly "this is your first day Stan, you have no idea".
