Chapter Four|Guardian Angel Strikes Again:

In every typical American high school movie, the main character would open their big and spacious locker which was decorated with all sorts of things; stickers, mirrors, photographs and drawings, and not to mention you could fit a lot of stuff inside. All your books, gym bag and personal items too.

But this wasn't high school. Or America. Or a movie.

This was secondary school. It was England. And it was a black and white reality.

Those were the thoughts of Nick as he stood in front of his compact and insufficient locker. It seemed as small as a matchstick box and it might as well of been anyway. Nick could barely fit his P.E bag inside.

After his mum had washed his P.E Kit for him, Nick would always bring it back to school and put it in his locker, just to be sure he didn't forget it and earn himself a bad comment.

His parents would be so disappointed if he got a bad comment. It would ruin his good comment streak completely!

Nick puts his key into the locker and twists it, pulling it open only for a cabbage to fall out making him jump.

Booming laughter was heard behind him, and he turned around to see Marcus and Danny.

"You alright Nick Cabbage!" Danny cackled.

Not this again.

"For the last time, my names Babbage not Cabbage." He said under his breath.

Nick didn't even know how they managed to get in his Locker.

"Priceless!" Marcus said slapping his knees.

Nick didn't really find it all that funny. "Well, you know what they say, simple minds get amused easily." He mumbled quietly. But not quietly enough.

"What did you say, you git?" Danny hissed taking a step forward.

If anyone was a git, it was him, Nick thought. "N-nothing." He stuttered.

"Didn't sound like nothin'." Marcus snarled coming forward as well.

Danny took two quick strides till he was standing face to face with Nick. He grabbed his collar and pushed him to the locker. Nick winced.

"Listen you, why don't you shut your pipe hole, you-"

"What? Till you what?" His guardian angel appeared again. Leo. "How about any problems you have with him, you deal with them with me. Yeah?"

Marcus looked like he was ready to wet himself, while Danny let go of Nick's colar and took unsteady steps back. "Alright, sorry. We were just messing around, mate."

"I'm not your mate." Leo snarled. Danny and Marcus stood their staring at him like headless chickens. "Well, what are you still doing here? Scram!"

So Marcus and Danny ran as fast as their legs could carry them.

A light chuckle came from Leo. He looked up and meets Nick's eyes. "You alright?"

Nick nodded fast. Was he in some alternative universe where Leo was... nice?

"T-thanks." Nick said.

Leo's lips twitches in a small but unmistakable smile. "Any time, mate." He turned back around and walked back down the hall.

Did Leo Lightwood just call him, Nick Babbage, mate?

Did that mean they were friends? It must be.

Wait till Josh heard about this.

***

"So Leo Lightwood flew in wearing his flowing red cape and saved the day and then walked off in the sunset?"

"It is physically impossible for humans to fly and the school rules make it clear that you're only aloud to wear school uniform on school property, and I told you already, he walked down the hall. Are you okay, Josh?" Nick gave his friend a concerned look.

Josh rolled his eyes. "For such a smarto, you really are a muppet. It's called sarca- look, he's coming!"

Nick turned his head to see Leo walking into the food hall.

He didn't look like a tough and dodgy teenager ready to start trouble; he looked like a nervous and unsure teen trying to figure out where he was supposed to sit in the crowded food hall.

There was plenty of empty seats, but it was an unspoken rule that you never sit on another table when other people you didn't talk to or weren't friends with unless asked.

It was like Nick was no longer in control of his mouth or hands for that matter. "Leo, over here!" He did a waving motion with his hands.

Leo looked relieved as he walked over to Nick and Josh.

"Dude," Josh, whisper-shouted, "what the hell are you doing?"

"I have no idea." Nick mumbled back.

Leo sat down next to Nick and put his sandwich and orange juice bottle down. He smiled shyly at Nick. "Thanks, mate."

The three boys sat in an awkward silence for five minuets.

"I need to go, I've got a drama rehearsal to get to." Josh said to Nick, glancing at Leo from the corner of his eyes before leaving.

"So, erm, you like orange juice?" Nick wanted to break the silence and that question was a lot better than the question he was dying to ask.

"Yeah, it's aright I guess-"

"Why are you being so nice to me?" Nick blurted out. Yesterday, Leo had seemed so withdrawn and acted like he didn't like Nick at all. Maybe Leo had been dared to talk to him. Wouldn't be the first time something like that had happened to him.

Leo's eyebrows knitted together. "What do you mean?"

He wasn't used to this no matter how sad it sounded. Having a somewhat normal conversation with someone who wasn't Josh or his parents.

Nick sighed. "It's just that, well, yesterday it seemed like you hated me and, well, everyone, and today you're actually acting friendly. I mean yesterday, you wouldn't even speak to me."

Leo's cheeks reddened. "Oh. That. Yesterday I was in a lot of pain because I had a rotten tooth. Sorry if I seemed rude, it's just hard to smile and talk when the inside of your mouth is throbbing. You know?" Nick didn't know-he brushed, flossed and used mouth wash everyday, leading him to have clean and healthy teeth-but he nodded anyway. "But in the evening I went to the dentist and they pulled it out for me. Luckily it was a baby tooth."

Nick wanted to laugh that a tough looking guy like him still had a baby tooth.

Leo reddened again. "It was my last one though!"

Nick let out a laugh and soon enough Leo was laughing with him. It felt good.

Who knew that Leo would turn out be one of the good guys?

Woah. Did you see it coming?

It's been too long since we've saw Ella.

But she might pop up in the next chapter ;)

Ba bye xx
