CH. 3' Searching for Reason
"Why do I feel like you gambled a lot." I spoke out making Nick laugh nervously.
"Maybe I do, maybe I don't." I laughed at his smart ass reply but with that suit he was wearing, I knew that he was earning more than I was.
The darkness was taking over quickly and we were not far from the carnival Nick was at.
I LOVED amusement parks, theme parks and whatever else you can think of.
"Can we ride the screamin' oaks?!" I shouted loudly making Nick shudder.
"Um, maybe Ellis."
"Someone sounds scared." I wiggled my brows and I saw the screamin' oaks a few feet from where we parked.
The carnival was packed with people. Lights and music cascaded the late night air and the sky was shining brightly with lights.
"Let's go Nick!" I shouted and pulled him to the entrance. My excitement was getting a little too much so I pulled back a small bit.
Nick started stumbling his words as he saw the massive rollercoaster sitting in front of us.
"Holy shit Ellis." Without any words, I had a few tickets in my hand, dragged him to the entrance of the ride, handed the worker the tickets and hopped on before Nick got the chance to run away.
"Y'all don't realise how much I love roller coasters." I looked at Nick and before the ride started, I ran my finger across the sharp cut on his forehead. Nick pulled back a little from the stinging sensation.
"Sorry. It just hurts." Nick nervously replied.
"We are getting that cleaned and some sort of bandage on it." I looked over at Nick and a gentle yet relaxed smile was resting on his face.
I couldn't tell why Nick gave off a coldness, but when you got closer it was just, warm.
The person controlling the ride started counting from three and Nick's hands held onto mine.
"Holy shit Ellis. Get me off?" The ride took off and Nick's eyes widened then closed. I could feel like arm tense beside me.
My hands were up in the air, I screamed to the top of my lungs. My laughs were uncontrollable as Nick was screaming in my ears. The ride eventually stopped and Nick opened his beautiful eyes...
A long hold of a sigh came from him as his shoulders relaxed and his breathing calmed down.
"C'mon now, it wasnt that bad." I laughed at Nick's face which was white, and his white teeth with his smirky smile.
"Sometimes your southern accent really pisses me off."
My face dropped at his comment.
"I actually love it though."
I smiled at his comment.
Pretty much the whole night consisted of going on the amusements and playing some dumb carnival games. The night grew colder and I shivered under my breath.
Nick noticed and shrugged the blazer off his shoulders then wrapped it around my broad shoulders.
"Thank you."
We walked back to my truck, in comfortable silence, only the screams of a few people at the carnival. The place was dying down because of the time and people had already left.
"I'll drive,"
I laughed and Nick furrowed his eyebrow.
"You laugh at the most unreasonable times."
"I know."

Nick's POV:
His peacefulness calmed my beating heart. His head was leaning against the window with my suit jacket around him. His trucker cap was pushed up, slightly off his head, and soft snores escaping his throat.
I'd never felt this way about anyone. I fucking regretted acting the way I did. I was set back by his beautiful, meaningful eyes but I was an ass anyways.
It was a good night to say the least, I just hoped Keith would have stopped giving Ellis bother. I leaned my elbow against the truck door. The night sky was chilly although the stars gazed in my eyes.
Ellis shuffled around and I realised it was uncomfortable for him. It was coming up to three in the morning, and I saw a motel sign. We still had a right few hours on the road until I got back to his shop. The carnival was around an hour away but the traffic on the highway was terrible.
I saw the Motel sign down the road and I took a sharp left turn, then carried on down the dark road. Only a few lights spilled on the street, the truck lights illuminating the street more.
I saw the reception door closed but light shining through the window as I turned into it and parked carefully. Ellis stirred again but a soft snore from him made me smile.
Normally I wouldn't smile, but again there was something about him that did.
