Backstory: Joanne's parents noticed her musical talent at an early age and put her in vocal lessons when she was 7. Joanne has had some experience in a variety of genres (classical, musical theatre, jazz, soul, gospel) but most of her training and experience was in pop music, her favourite. She wrote her first song when she was 13 and frequently performed at open mic nights, karaoke bars, and coffee shops during her high school years. She moved to Boston when she was 18 to attend the Berklee College of Music, a school known for offering music degree programs in contemporary genres. She graduated with a degree in Popular Voice in 2016. At around the same time she released her first single, "Naturally", which became a hit, and entered her first relationship with Charlie McAvoy. He was 18 at the time and she was 22. They were absolutely smitten with each other, but the relationship ended up becoming toxic and they broke up after 1 year. This breakup and this relationship as a whole took quite a toll on Joanne, and it eventually led her to write and release "Same Old Love", which has since become her biggest song to date. In 2018, it won the Grammy Award for Song of the Year.  Around a year after her breakup with Charlie, she was spotted making out in public with one of Charlie's teammates, David Pastrnak. David and Joanne confirmed that they in fact had been secretly dating for 6 months. On New Years Eve 2020, Joanne and David got engaged. As of now, Joanne is doing very well in her music career, having won a few more Grammys as well as a handful of other music awards. Her most recent hit is "Lose You To Love Me", another song she had penned about Charlie that she had been teasing on her Instagram for years, and finally decided to release. Her relationship with David is only getting stronger as well and they are looking forward to getting married!
