fifteen.
The studio buzzed with the remnants of earlier rehearsals—random notes still lingering in the air from instruments left idle, and distant chatter as Billie's bandmates milled around on their break. In the center of it all, Billie sat cross-legged on the stage, completely immersed in her phone, her back turned to the rest of the room. She wore thigh-hugging black tights, a loose white tank top that drooped off one shoulder, exposing the band of her sports bra beneath, and a pair of colorful Goofy socks tucked into her worn-out Jordans.
Her dark hair was lazily tied into a loose bun, strands falling over her neck and shoulders, and she swiped furiously across the screen of her phone, deep in a Candy Crush level that demanded her full attention. The sound of candies exploding and points racking up filled the air around her as her fingers tapped rhythmically.
That's when the studio door swung open with a soft creak, followed by slow, deliberate footsteps.
Mars Tosin stepped inside, towering over the space in her usual calm, confident manner. She wore her typical loose-fitting black hoodie and baggy jeans, the fabric draping over her lean, muscular frame. The scent of takeout wafted faintly from the plastic bag she carried, filled with all of Billie's favorite snacks. Mars's hazel and grey-green eyes gleamed as she scanned the room—and there, sitting on the stage like the most welcome sight in the world, was her girlfriend.
Her eyes trailed over Billie's figure—the way the loose tank top shifted slightly as she moved, the curve of her thighs snug under her tights, and, most distractingly, the way her hips and ass looked from this angle. The tightness of the fabric did little to conceal anything, and Mars, who was always captivated by Billie no matter what she wore, felt her heart rate jump for a split second.
Then, without thinking, Mars let out a low whistle.
"Gyat dayum."
Billie's head snapped up, twisting slightly toward the voice she immediately recognized. A grin tugged at the corners of her lips even before she saw Mars. "You're so stupid," she muttered, unable to keep the amusement out of her voice.
Mars set the takeout bag on a nearby amp, her grin playful. "Can you blame me, though?" she said, hands in her hoodie pockets as she ambled over to the stage. "Look at you, sittin' there all cute like that."
Billie huffed a laugh, though the slight flush in her cheeks didn't go unnoticed. "I'm literally just playing Candy Crush," she said, setting her phone down in her lap.
"Yeah, and you're doing it lookin' fine as hell." Mars's eyes were half-lidded as she leaned her tall frame against the stage. "That a crime now?"
Rolling her eyes, Billie reached for Mars, and Mars took her hand without hesitation, their fingers locking easily. "You really came all the way here to annoy me?" Billie teased, tugging Mars closer.
Mars took that as her invitation to step between Billie's legs, placing herself right in front of her. Billie rested her hands on Mars's waist, her thumbs idly running over the fabric of Mars's hoodie as if it were instinctive. In return, Mars's hands traveled down to Billie's backside, giving it a playful squeeze. Billie grinned, leaning her forehead against Mars's.
"Hi," Mars murmured softly, her deep voice carrying a tenderness that was reserved only for moments like these—moments with Billie.
Billie tilted her head up, brushing her lips against Mars's in a light peck. That first kiss was meant to be brief, just a little greeting, but it quickly dissolved into something deeper. Their lips moved together slowly, like two people who knew each other's rhythm by heart. Mars's hands stayed firmly on Billie's waist, while Billie's fingers found their way into Mars's short curls, gently tugging.
It wasn't until a loud, exasperated groan echoed across the room that they reluctantly broke apart.
"Ewwwww! Could you guys, like, not do that in public?" Zoe, Billie's best friend since childhood, dramatically rolled her eyes from where she sat on an amp across the room, phone still in hand.
Billie snorted, resting her forehead against Mars's shoulder, her body shaking with quiet laughter.
"Billie, I'm happy you found someone to get you some," Zoe continued, still half-joking but laced with the exaggerated annoyance of someone who had seen way too much PDA between her best friend and her new girlfriend, "but you don't gotta get some everywhere."
Mars turned and without hesitation tossed a crumpled-up paper towel at Zoe, who dodged it and promptly flipped her the bird. Mars shook her head with a grin. "You're lucky I'm in a good mood, Zo."
"Yeah, yeah. You're a real saint," Zoe muttered with a smirk before heading back toward the sound booth, leaving the couple alone again.
Mars turned back to Billie, her hazel-green eyes warm with affection. "Okay, well. Enjoy your lunch, ma. I'm gonna head out, let you work."
But before she could step away, Billie clamped her legs around Mars's waist, her thighs tightening in a way that made Mars quirk a brow. "No, stay," Billie murmured, giving her a pleading, doe-eyed look that she knew Mars could never say no to.
Mars gave her an indulgent smile, leaning down to press a quick kiss on her forehead. "Rehearsals are almost over anyway," Billie added, her fingers brushing absently along the collar of Mars's hoodie.
"Okay," Mars shrugged, perfectly content to stay where she was, tucked between Billie's thighs.
Billie pulled out a neatly packed container and popped it open, revealing a spread of colorful, carefully prepared vegan dishes: quinoa salad with roasted vegetables, a side of hummus and pita chips, and a little jar of mango chia pudding for dessert. "Damn, you really went all out," Billie said, clearly impressed.
"Only the best for you," Mars replied smoothly, a small smile tugging at the corner of her mouth.
Billie leaned forward and kissed Mars's cheek in gratitude, her lips lingering for a second longer than necessary. "You're spoiling me," she said with a playful grin.
"That's the plan," Mars murmured, brushing a stray strand of hair away from Billie's face.
They sat together on the edge of the stage as Billie dug into her food, the two of them comfortable in their own little world despite the hum of activity around them. Mars stole occasional glances at Billie between bites, her gaze soft and fond, like she couldn't quite believe how lucky she was.
The band members gave them a wide berth, used to the pair's affectionate nature by now. Some of them exchanged knowing glances, but no one interrupted—except for Zoe, of course, who still shot them the occasional side-eye from her corner.
"You seriously brought all this from home?" Billie asked between bites, licking a bit of hummus off her thumb. "When did you even have time to cook? I thought you had meetings all day."
Mars shrugged casually, as if it were nothing. "Got up early," she said. "Figured you'd need some good food since you're working so hard."
Billie smiled, a genuine, soft expression that was rare for her to show to just anyone. "Thanks, baby," she said quietly, her voice filled with affection. "You're the best."
Mars chuckled, brushing her knuckles gently along Billie's jawline. "I know."
They stayed like that for a while, chatting idly as Billie ate her lunch. The conversation flowed easily between them, filled with the kind of teasing banter and soft moments that only two people completely comfortable with each other could share.
After finishing her meal, Billie stretched her arms over her head, groaning softly as she rolled her shoulders. Mars watched her with a mixture of amusement and admiration, still amazed at how effortlessly beautiful Billie was, even when she wasn't trying.
"You good?" Mars asked, running a hand down Billie's back, her fingers lingering at the curve of her spine.
"Mmhmm," Billie hummed, leaning into the touch. "Just a little sore from rehearsal."
Mars's brows furrowed slightly in concern. "Want me to give you a massage later?"
Billie grinned, leaning her head on Mars's shoulder. "God, yes. Please."
Mars chuckled softly, pressing a kiss to the top of Billie's head. "Anything for you, my love."
Zoe made a gagging noise from her corner, and both Billie and Mars burst into laughter, their playful energy filling the room once again.
