23. Just Another Tuesday

My ankle had been broken for about a week now. It wasn't the best thing ever but it could be worse. The doctor had said that the break wasn't too bad and I'd only need to have a cast for about 3 months.
Newt has been there for me through the week too. He gets my food when I can't carry it and helps me do literally anything that could affect my ankle.
I'm laying on my bed and doing my homework. Kinda boring but I guess it has to be done.
"Knock knock." Someone calls and the door swings open.
"Hey Teresa. What's up?" I ask.
"Not a ton. I just went for a walk." She says. "How's your ankle doing?"
"It's not bad. Definitely doesn't hurt as much anymore." I say.
"That's good. How's Newt?" She asks.
"He's doing alright. I actually haven't talked to him today at all. He wasn't in any of the classes." I say.
I look at the clock that read "7:00pm".
"Nobody told you?" She asks.
"Told me what?" I ask.
"Newts ankle has been bothering him so they're giving him the day to rest. He should be okay but he probably didn't want to bother you with it." She says and offers a small smile.
"He couldn't ever bother me with anything." I say with a small frown.
"Yeah, but you know Newt. He's the one that needs to protect and help you not the other way around. He hates having you see him like that." She says.
"Trust me, I know. But I don't care. I love him anyways." I explain.
"I know you do. I would give him some space tonight and check in on him tomorrow." She says.
"Yeah. I'll do that." I reply.
Mondays suck.
I continue on with my math homework I was assigned. I didn't want to fall behind in my classes.
"Hey did you get the answer to number ten?" I ask.
"Yeah, here. I'll show you." She says.
Teresa brings her paper over and started to explain the last problem on the homework sheet.
"Thanks" I say.
"Of course." She says smiling.
"I think I'm gonna go to bed. Goodnight."
"Goodnight Y/N."

"Hey, wake up." I hear.
"Hmm." I groan and turn back over in the bed.
"Y/N. Newt's going to be here any minute. Wake up." Teresa says.
"5 more minutes." I whisper.
I feel my blankets get pulled off of me and I shiver.
"Seriously you couldn't let me sleep?" I ask.
I slowly open my eyes and look around the room.
"Wake up. You need to get going. You have twenty minutes before Newt gets here to take you to breakfast." Teresa says.
"What?" I ask.
"Better hurry." She says.
I hop out of bed and throw on some makeup. Just a bit of mascara and eyeliner and some eyebrows. Then I throw on my plaid dress and a black dress jacket.
"I'm ready." I say.
"Good. I was hoping you would have enough time this morning." Teresa says.
"I was too. I didn't really know how long it would take." I say.
She laughs.
"Yeah. You do tend to take a long time in the morning. I'm gonna go. Newt should be here soon to pick you up." Teresa says before heading out the door.
"Hello love." I hear.
"Good morning Newt." I say smiling.
I pull him into a hug and grab my crutches. We walk to breakfast together and he carries my books for the day.
"How's your ankle?" Newt asks.
"I could ask you the same thing."
"Who told you?" He asks.
"Teresa." I say.
"I didn't want you to worry. You already have yours to worry about and mine wasn't serious. They just wanted me to rest for a day. I'm fine I promise." He says.
"You could've told me." I say.
"I know but I didn't want you to worry." He says.
"Well of course I would worry. You were hurt." I say.
"I'm sorry." He whispers.
"It's okay but just tell me next time okay?" I ask.
"I will I promise." He says.
"Thank you Newt." I say and kiss him on the cheek.
"Next weekend is free weekend. You know what that means." He says.
"What's that?" I ask.
"We get to go wherever. There's a mall somewhat close to here only an hour away. We could go into the small town." He says.
"That sounds fun." I say.
"Yeah, we only get these weekends once every other month." He explains.
"Really?" I ask.
"Yeah. That's why we have to make the most of it. We can plan it out later. I'm hungry." He says.
"Me too." I say.
We reach the doors to the dining hall and I take a seat next to Teresa while Newt gets my food for me as I can't carry it.
"So how's Newt?" She asks.
"He seems to be doing okay. He didn't really love the fact I knew about it." I say.
"I bet he didn't. He doesn't really love the fact you have to worry." Thomas says.
"I gathered that. But he's my boyfriend it's my job to worry about him." I say.
"Oh, we know." Teresa says.
"Newts Newt. There's no other way to put it." Thomas says, making us all laugh.
Newt comes back to the table with both of our plates.
"Here you go." Newt says setting mine in front of me.
"Thanks Newt." I say and give him a kiss on the cheek.
"Anything for you, love." He says.
I smile.
"So, how do we feel about the math test today?" Teresa asks.
"Nervous but I don't think I'll do too bad." I say.
"You'll do great." Newt says, causing me to smile.
"Thanks Newt." I say.
"You're welcome. But I was only being honest." He says smiling.
"You two are gross." Thomas says.
"No it's called being in a relationship." I say.
"In other words, gross." Thomas says.
We all laugh at him and continue to eat before it's time to gather my stuff and go to class.
"I'll carry your stuff to class." Newt offers.
"Newt, I think I can get it." I say.
I try to grab all of my stuff but end up dropping it.
"Fine you can carry my stuff." I say rolling my eyes at him.
"Thank you." He says.
He scoops my books off of the table and we walk to the math classroom and he takes my books to the desk I sit at.
He hugs me goodbye and waves before leaving the classroom.
All of the other students make it in before the bell rings and then Jorge walks in. He picks up a white peice of chalk and writes on the chalkboard.
In white letters it reads "Math Quiz"
"Today, you will all be taking your first math quiz. If you did last night's homework, good job. That was a practice. If not, have fun failing I could care less. At the end of the day you're the one that has to pass the class. Not me." He says.
"The test is easy. Ten questions. You need to get at least 70 percent to pass. If not, let's hope you don't fail any other tests and do your homework. Math is needed to graduate and if you fail you won't graduate and you'll be thirty stuck in a sophmore math class." He continues.
"I'll be giving you the test and you'll give me the homework." He says.
He walks from student to student collecting their math homework and handing them the test. I finally get mine and I hand him the homework.
I write my name on the test and begin.

The test wasn't as hard as I originally thought it would be but it wasn't easy. It took me some time to finish but I had about five minutes until the bell would ring.
"Okay, I've collected all the tests. You can go." Jorge says and we all leave the classroom.
Thomas grabs my books so he can help me carry them to my next class.

"How do you think you did?" I ask Teresa.
"I have no clue." She says flopping onto her bed.
"I hope I didn't do bad." I say.
"I'm sure you did amazing." She says and looks over at me.
"I'm so excited for Friday." Teresa says .
"What's Friday?" I ask.
"Our free weekend. We get to leave Everglade and go wherever we want to go." Teresa says.
"Oh yeah. I forgot about that." I say.
"How could you forget! It's about the best thing ever!" Teresa exclaimes.
"I don't know. I'm excited to go to the mall and get some clothes. I don't have much. Especially since they're going to start letting us wear formal clothing that's not our uniforms on Fridays." I say.
"I can't wait!" Teresa yells.
