Green Eyed Monster 1

Okay, so, funny story... This was requested by thejennachu , and I know I said I wasn't planning on doing anything 'romantic' yet, but inspiration struck, so sue me(please don't, I'm broke).

So I had an idea and I was about six paragraphs in when I realized I hadn't asked for any extra details, so I did. With the extra info, I realized that my original plan wouldn't work. Like, at all. It wasn't a big deal, like I said, I'd barely started. But I really liked what I had planned out already, so I figured I'd write both.

This is the one with the extra information. I've posted the other one on FanFiction.net, but not on here yet. They both are still based on the same request so they have similar plots and I wouldn't want to bore anyone, but if you guys want to read it just let me know and I'll post it on here too!

"Hey Jenna! Whatcha up to?" Race asked, dropping down to sit on the stoop next to her.

"What does it look like?" She asked softly, barely glancing up from the book that was balanced across her knees.

"Ooh, there's no need for that sarcasm Miss Jenna, I was just bein' polite," Race smirked. "Whatcha readin'?"

"Romeo and Juliet," Jenna responded distractedly. "Davey said that they read it in school and he lent it to me."

"That sounds dumb, what's it about?"

"A boy and a girl who fall in love, even though they can't be together," the seamstress replied.

"Well why can't they?" Race asked, nose crinkling in his confusion.

Jenna sighed, gently closing the book and setting it next to her. With Race around, it seemed as though she wouldn't get any more reading in. "Their families hate each other. But one day they meet and Romeo falls madly in love with her and she him, but Juliet's engaged to a man named Paris and-"

"He should leave her alone, she seems terrible!" Race scoffed.

"He's in love! And she's not terrible!" Jenna argued. "What's the matter with her?"

"Engaged to a man, then in love with another? She sounds like a tart to me."

"Well she's not!" Jenna said, smacking his arm. "They're star-crossed lovers! It's beautiful and so terribly romantic!"

"I didn't know you liked reading sissy stories like that."

"It's by Shakespeare! He's practically a genius!"

"Whatever you say," Race laughed, rolling his eyes.

"A girl can dream about love every once in awhile, can't she?" Jenna asked, annoyance creeping into her voice.

"That depends," Race grinned. "Who are ya dreamin' about?"

"No one in particular!" Jenna quickly answered. "I didn't mean it like that!"

"Sure you did," Race continued. "So, who was it? Who has the honor of runnin' through your mind all day and night? It ain't me, right?"

"Of course not, don't be absurd!"

"Romeo?" Race tried again. "Elmer?"

At that Jenna's face scrunched up as she furiously shook her head.

"I agree with you on that one," Race admitted before his eyes brightened. "I know who it is! It's Albert, ain't it!"

"Now you're getting crazy! Really Race, I'm surprised you aren't in a ward by now," Jenna laughed, but the deep blush on her face was answer enough.

"You do!" Race cried. "You've gotta tell 'im!"

"No!" Jenna argued. "He can't find out. You're not going to tell him."

"Why not? I'm sure he likes you too," Race wondered, genuinely confused. All of the boys had heard enough talk about Jenna from the redhead to last several lifetimes.

"No, he doesn't. And even if he did, that's not how it's done. If I were to tell him I'd look too forward."

"C'mon Jenna! How bad could it be? Just three little words!"

Jenna sighed, grabbed her book, and stood up. "I'm going inside to finish my book."

Race groaned as Jenna got up to leave but brightened again a few minutes later when he spotted Albert at the end of the street, on the way back from a day of selling.

"Heya, Albert! Guess who's here?" He called.

"I don't know and I don't care," Albert groaned.

"Yes you do. It's Jenna!"

"Jenna's here?" Albert immediately fixed his cap and straightened his shirt. "I look okay?" He asked nervously.

"As good as someone as ugly as you could look," Race responded smartly, dodging the punch that'd been thrown in his direction.

"I'm bein' serious Race, how do I look?"

"Ya look fine, Al. But I don't see why you care how ya look. Jenna likes you anyway."

"She don't like me," Albert responded, shaking his head.

"Yes she does! She practically just told me!"

"Really?" Albert asked, eyes wide. Then he shook his head again. "It ain't nice of you to make up things like that, Race."

"I ain't makin' it up!" Race complained. "Just tell her! Then you two can be happy and stop whinin' to me all the time."

"I ain't tellin' her anything!" Albert exclaimed. "I'd make a fool of myself!"

"You guys are just tryin' to make this difficult for me, ain't ya," Race muttered. "So, if you ain't gonna say somethin' to her, does that mean I can ask her to go to dinner with me tomorrow night?"

"Now I never said that!" Albert exclaimed.

"Thanks!" Race said, ignoring him as he started inside.

"Wait a minute Race! Don't you go askin' her anything like that!"

Race scanned the room for a minute, spotting Jenna off to the side, still reading her book.

"Well, would ya look at that? Twice in one day!" Race smirked, slipping into the chair next to hers. "Isn't that strange?"

Jenna rolled her eyes. "You live here, genius. It ain't strange at all."

"Nah, I think it's fate sayin' wese s'posed to be together, kinda like that book of yours."

"Race, you know I like Albert. What's this about?" Jenna whispered.

"Remember your book? I'm sure Julia-"

"Juliet."

"Whatever. I'm sure she thought the same thing about London-"

"Paris."

"I don't care! I'm sure she thought the same thing, 'til she fell in love with Romeo. So what do you say we go have dinner at Jacobi's tomorrow, then maybe we can go see a show at Medda's?"

"I say, sorry, but I don't want to."

Race ignored her and let out a loud whistle, drawing all of the attention to him. "Boys, our dear Jenna has just agreed to accompany me to dinner tomorrow!"

"I did not!" Jenna hissed.

"Calm down," Race whispered. "I'm tryin' to help you out."

With that, he leaned forward and planted a kiss on her cheek. Sure enough, Albert was across the room in seconds, his face a deep red.

"Jenna, what's goin' on?"

"I don't know," she replied, a blush dusting her cheeks.

"Ya see Albert, I invited her to dinner," Race explained slowly.

"I know what happened!" Albert exclaimed.

"Then why'd you ask?" Race asked, cocking an eyebrow.

Albert glared at the boy, lips pursed, unsure of what to say.

"That's strange," Race muttered as he stared at Albert's face.

"What's strange?" Albert spat.

"I was always told that jealousy was a green eyed monster," Race said as he stood up. "I might have to take a rain check on that date, doll," Race said, shooting Jenna a wink as he headed over to Jojo and Buttons.

"So it's true?" Albert asked, trying to hide the hurt in his voice. "You're goin' out with him?"

"No!" Jenna hurriedly denied. "I don't know what all that was about, he was just being dumb."

"So you don't like him?"

"Not like that."

"Good," Albert said.

"What was all that about him callin' you jealous?" Jenna asked shyly, brushing hair out of her face and looking at Albert out of the corner of her eye.

"I don't know. Like you said, he was just bein' dumb."

"So you weren't?" Jenna tried to brush away the disappointment.

"I wouldn't say that," Albert admitted after a minute of silence.

"Then you were jealous?"

"Yeah, I guess so."

"Why?"

"What?" Albert asked.

"Why were you jealous?"

"Youse smart. I think you've probably figured it out by now," Albert replied, crossing his arms.

"I want to hear you say it," Jenna insisted.

"It's just, you're a real nice girl Jenna, and I guess I've, maybe...liked you for a, well, a long time now." Albert couldn't look her in the eye. She was going to laugh at him.

"Really? You aren't joking?"

"No, I ain't joking."

"Good, because I like you too. I'm free tomorrow night. I get out of work at six," Jenna said, standing up to leave for her home.

"Wait, what?" Albert asked in shock.

"Don't be late!" Jenna called over her shoulder.

"I think I've got a date!" Albert exclaimed when the door shut, a huge grin stretching across his face.

"You're welcome!" Race muttered. "Man, you do someone a favor and they forget all about you!
