Third Person POV
A/N, Belmeruttons was requested by the lovely iJustLoveNewsies so here it is :) along with a picture of the puppies. Sadie looked through the deck railing, so Spencer did the same.
Buttons was in the bunk room when he heard someone shout his name.
Actually, it was more of a sort of sing-songy, cheeky call for him.
"Buttons!"
He heard them walk into the room.
Buttons chuckles, looking up.
Sure enough, it was his boyfriend.
Elmer Kasprzak.
He swore he loved the boy, but he was clumsy, easily confused, and always ripped his clothes.
These were not bad things, per say, and Buttons thought they made Elmer- well- Elmer, and cute, but they could be a bit annoying at times.
Speaking of which, his flannel was in his hands at the moment, and Buttons probably knew there was a rip in them.
He hoped not.
But he knew better.
Elmer wore his usual lighter green undershirt, his red suspenders hanging on his belt and hanging down at his sides, his usual pants were on, as well as his boots and blue and black socks.
His hair was over his eyes, brushed into place by his hat that had his name sewn into the top in yellow.
His vest was 'missing'.
Buttons had heard that Elmer had lost it a few mornings ago and hadn't been able to find it since.
He knew where it was though.
"Hey, Mon Amour." Buttons greets with a soft smile.
Buttons was fluent in three languages that werent English, which came in handy.
He learned two of them at a young age and learned the other since it was close and another boy at the Lodge spoke it.
Buttons spoke French, Italian, and Spanish.
He learned French while growing up, as well as Spanish, and learned Italian because Race and his past leader, Sparks, spoke it.
It was pretty easy to him, but he had a tendency to forget words and switch over to that language.
He was also trying to learn Polish for his boyfriend.
Buttons looks at Elmer, his eyes flicking to the lighter green flannel in his hand. "Did you rip it again?" He asks with a soft smile.
Elmer smiles cheekily.
Buttons chuckles. "Let me see what I can do." He tells his boyfriend.
Elmer nods, sitting down on the bunk next to his boyfriend.
Buttons searches for any thread he had.
Thread wasn't easy to buy, especially when he had to buy food for himself and his siblings.
Medda's seamstress gave him any leftover thread she had, so Elmer's flannel, which ripped quite a bit, had an assortment of rainbow stitches.
"Well," Buttons starts with a soft chuckle. "At least I have green today." He states.
Elmer laughs a bit.
It was a darker green, but it was still green.
"I quite like the rainbow stitches on my flannel," the Polish boy comments. "It makes it feel special."
Buttons smiles.
Elmer lays his head in Buttons' lap as Buttons pulls out his needle-knife.
(If you've forgotten what his needle-knife is, go to Part 2 of the Bracettons in this book.
We all just basically have really cool weapons based on our personalities.
Or Race can explain it like that.)
Buttons starts stitching up Elmer's flannel again, part of the string in his mouth as he stared at the flannel in concentration.
He really didn't want to poke his finger.
Not only did it hurt, but it affected everything he did.
Touch papes in the wrong way? Pain.
Spice on food touches it? Pain.
Holds Elmer's hand too tightly? Pain.
And he wouldn't be able to sew for a bit if he did, and because he was currently in the middle of a project that he was invested in, he didn't want that to happen.
Elmer just stares at his boyfriend through when he got glimpses as the flannel moves in Buttons' hands.
The older boy's hair was almost fully covering his eyes, but he made no attempt to move it and just kept himself focused on Elmer's flannel.
Elmer also liked how he looked when he was concentrating.
He stuck his tongue out slightly and his blue eyes were fully trained on whatever he was doing.
Finch starts walking past the room.
"Hey, Finch?" Buttons starts, not looking up.
Finch stops in the doorway, turning to face him. "Yeah?" He asks.
"If you happen to go to the laundry room and see El's vest, I kinda need it." Buttons explains, seeing another stitch. "If you don't mind," he adds.
Finch nods.
"Thanks." Buttons places the needle in between his teeth as he flips Elmer's flannel, before grabbing it and starting again.
Elmer just stares at him, completely in awe.
He didn't know how this boy did so much.
And with such ease?
He swore this boy was perfect.
Buttons pulls the string between his teeth, ripping it and tying the last stitch.
He looks down at Elmer, who's head still laid in his lap.
He chuckles when he sees him. "I finished, Amore." He informs him softly.
"You switched again." Elmer points out, not making a move to get up.
Buttons goes over what he said in his head, before he realized Elmer was right. "Oh." He nods. "I did."
Elmer laughs a bit.
Buttons leans down and presses a soft kiss to his boyfriend's forehead.
When he pulled away, Elmer was smiling softly and there was a good bit of blush on his cheeks.
"Can I cuddle with you?" Elmer asks quietly, his eyes flicking around the bunk as if to avoid Buttons'.
He did that whenever he was embarrassed to say or ask something.
Buttons chuckles. "I'd love that." He responds softly.
Elmer smiles, getting up and hanging his flannel on his bunk frame.
He had the top bunk, his bunk shared with JoJo, who had the button bunk.
His shoes were already off, which Buttons figured was because Davey usually had them take them off before they stepped in the doorway of the Lodge, when he was there.
Buttons lays down on his bunk, Elmer coming and laying on top of him.
They quickly clung to each other, their legs entangling and Buttons' arms finding their way around Elmer's waist.
"Quick question," Tommy boy pops his head over the side of the bunk above Buttons'. "How many languages can you tell Elmer you love him?" He asks curiously.
Buttons chuckles. "Five." He answers.
Elmer looks at him, a bit confused. "What's the fifth?" He asks.
Buttons smiles, nuzzling his head in the crook of Elmer's neck. "Polish." He answers softly.
Elmer's mouth gapes a bit, his face reddening. "You-?" He starts.
"I'm trying." Buttons answers with a soft chuckle as he clung to his boyfriend. "I'm not wonderful at speaking Polish yet."
Elmer grins to himself, hugging Buttons closer.
Buttons smiles.
Later
When Elmer woke up, Buttons wasn't with him anymore.
It was close to dark outside, only confusing him more.
He sat up in Buttons' bunk, rubbing his eyes as he yawned.
He looks around the room.
Specs sat on his bunk. "Buttons is downstairs with a surprise for you." He informs him, not looking up from his book.
Elmer nods, getting up. "Thanks, Specs."
Specs nods, flipping the page of his book.
Romeo walks into the room and over to his boyfriend.
Elmer leaves the room, his mind pointing out that Specs wasn't going to be able to read because of his boyfriend, which made him chuckle quietly.
Elmer walks downstairs, brushing his messy hair out of his eyes.
He quickly found Buttons, sitting on the couch, talking to a few boys.
He sits himself down next to his boyfriend, wrapping his arms around his next.
Buttons chuckles. "Hi."
"Hi." Elmer mumbles, resting his head on Buttons' shoulder.
Buttons smiles, running his hand through Elmer's dark brown hair. "I have a surprise for you." He whispers, excited to show Elmer and to see his reaction.
Elmer smiles.
Buttons pulls out his vest.
Elmer sits up. "You found my vest!" He grins.
Buttons chuckles, turning it around.
At the top of Elmer's vest, there was a pink heart, 'I love you' in Polish (that he had Specs write on the vest so he could sew it right), and a sunshine, along with a few other things.
Elmer stares at it, his mouthed gaping and his eyes wide.
Buttons chuckles. "I've been working on it for a few days." He explains. "I hid it in the laundry room."
"Cause I never look there." Elmer finishes his thought. "Smart."
Buttons chuckles.
Elmer hugs him, wrapping his arms around Buttons' neck again. "I love it. Thank you so much, B." He whispers.
Buttons smiles. "I love you, Elmer Kasprzak." He whispers in his ear.
Elmer grins. "I love you too, Buttons Davenport."
Buttons couldn't help the heat that rose on his cheeks and ears.

I'm not the proudest of this, but it's cute. I do think that Buttons would be the calmer one of the two, but I think I wrote him less cinnamon-rolly (lol) than I wanted to.
