Blink had spent a decent amount of time in the refuge when he was younger he had learned from Jack and Race the skill on how to not keep his mouth shut even if he knew it would be better to in the situations he ended up in.

Mush and Blink were asleep on the couch there arms and legs tangled together while the TV was playing a show quietly in the background after awhile the TV shut off automatically after it went to the screensaver from them not clicking on the remote after the movie ended.

Blink's Nightmare POV (sorry it's so long😬)

Blink (9) sat on the floor leaning against a bed In The refuge as he fiddled with his overalls and hummed a tune he had heard before. The door slammed opened and all the kids in the room looked up to see who stood at the door.

In the door frame stood Morris and a kid that was beat to a pulp his body cut and bruised his skin light and pale and his hair falling gently over his eyes he was barley conscious and having trouble standing Morris tossed the kid on the floor and then shut the door and clicked the lock in.

Blink crawled his way over to the boy dragging him back and laying him on his bunk he called over another boy who was the closet thing to a "doctor" they had in the refuge and asked him to look the boy over. Blink hadn't even realized the other boys concern for the kid that got dragged in by Morris as he was to busy worrying himself.

Finally after what seemed like forever the kid told Blink the boy was okay and he fixed him up the best he could that night Blink sat by his bunk making sure the boy was okay before falling asleep himself. 

The next morning blink woke up and looked over to the boy his eyes were open and he was laying up a little bit looking around with a confused look plastered on his face. Blink tapped his shoulder and he looked over at him "your in the refuge you got beat to a pulp and fell unconscious we fixed you up the best we could and now here we are" the boys eyes widened but he just nodded and continued to look around "I'm Blink Or Kid Blink whatever you prefer what's your name?" Blink says innocently the boy looks at him making eye contact "I'm Mush" he says his voice groggy "Mush? That's a unique name I like it!" Blink replies putting all his pride into the last words to make the boy feel comfortable Mush smiles "thank you your name is cool to..Blink" Mush replies Blink smiles and pulls the boy into a hug careful of his injuries "want to be friends?" He says once he pulls away "sure" Mush replies he smiles.

A Few Weeks Later (A/N: the first part of the dream is true there interdiction is but this next part is fake and didn't happen to them it's all made up by Blink's mind)

Blink and Mush had become very good friends they were very close they did everything together including talk back to Snyder.

Blink and Mush sat on Blink's bunk talking about there lives out of the refuge when Snyder walked in all the boys stopped talking and straightened there spines and footing Snyder walked into the room and stopped at Blink's Bunk he looked at the two boys his eyes mean and dark "did you two not get the message?" He spat "no we were to busy ignoring you" Blink replies Mush laughs "oh are you such a big boy now?" Snyder asks with a fake baby voice "yes yes I am" Blink says pridefully Snyder grabs Mush's hand and picks him up to stand next to him "oh so you wouldn't mind seeing your "friend" get brought down to the Basement" Blink's face went pale he grabbed for Mush but Snyder smacked his hand away he started taking Mush out of the Room while Blink kept apologizing profusely "I'm sorry I won't do it again" "we were just joking" "please don't hurt him..." But Snyder didn't stop he shut the door a smirk on his face and Blink fell to his knees sobbing and shaking. He heard the screams come from Mush down in the basement as Snyder beat the living daylights out of him Blink was screaming and crying at the door begging for them to open it "take m-m-me instead" he was struggling to get the air in his lungs while he tried to save Mush then all he heard Blink get up" "Blink wake up love"

Back to the present

Blink woke up with tears streaming down his face as he sobbed Mush took him and put him in his arms he was whispering comforting words in his ears like "it's okay love" "I'm fine I'm safe you are safe you won't get hurt by him again" "I love you I promise your safe I'll always be here" Blink had been having this nightmare frequently so Mush knew what it was about after awhile of Blink sobbing in Mush's arms his cries died down and his breathing slowly evened out next thing he knew he was asleep again quietly snoring Mush smiled and kissed his head he laid them down on the couch again and whispered " I love you Goodnight sleep well blinky " Before closing his eyes and falling asleep himself.

A/N: this is my first sad story and I really don't like it but if I want to get better at it I have to practice so lmk how you like this by the way Happy 10 years to our beloved newsies I love you each so much and had so much fun watching you get together again <3
