Kid Blink's POV

Today was almost a great day. Almost. Until the Delancey Brothers showed up, that is. I wonder who their target is today. I hide behind a stall in the market, hoping they don't see me. They walk past without any sign that they see me. I sigh in relief and walk away.

As I get up, I hear the voice of Bones McCoy(get it? :) our only female newsie. "Will you just leave me alone?" She says in a tired voice. I peek around the corner and see her with a few papes left, cornered.

"We would, but the thought of little miss Bones out here all on her own." Oscar says.

I groan softly. "You have got to be kidding me right now." I whisper. I straighten up and step out where they can see me.

"Leave her alone." I say. They turn to look at me. "I don't think so. We were about to have so much fun." They step closer to her and I grab Morris' arm.

"Go on. Hurt her. Then see how much I can hurt you." I say.

Oscar is the one to throw the first punch. I barely dodge it and throw one that catches him in the chin.

Morris comes up behind me and grabs me around the waist, picking me up and throwing me to the ground.

I get up and punch him square in the nose.

TIME SKIP BROUGHT TO YOU BY KID BLINK'S EYEPATCH

Bones' POV

I cover my head, trying to block out the sounds of the fight. I'm reminded so much of home, which isn't a good thing.

Suddenly, the sounds subside and I open my eyes to see blink standing there, covered in blood.

I jump up and wrap my arms around him. "Oh my goodness, Blink! Are you alright?" I say, holding him up.

He sighs. "I'm...I am okay." I shake my head. "Let's get you back to the lodging house."

I carry him back, supporting him as best I can. He lets out several moans and gasps of pain as I pull him along.

Finally, after what seemed like forever, we finally get back to the lodging house. Mush is the first one to find us.

"Oh heck, Blink, come here. Race!!!" He calls, and Racetrack comes over and they help him inside.

I sit on the steps and sighed. "Bones, are you okay?" Crutchy says, sitting down beside me.

I open my eyes and look at myself to see blood all over my dress. "Blink got into a fight with the Delancey Brothers because they were bugging me."

I stand up and go inside. Blink is laying on a bed, they must have changed his clothes. His eyes are shut and he occasionally lets out a soft moan. I notice that he's shirtless and I blush slightly.

"Hey, Blink. How are you doing?" I say, pulling up a chair to his bedside. He sighs. "I've been better, but I think that I will be okay."

I grab his hand and look him in the eye. "Hey, thank you for, you know, helping me. You didn't have to." He gives me a slight smile.

"Of course. I would definitely put my neck on the line for a pretty lady." He says. I blush. "Thanks, but...I'm not pretty." I say, looking down.

He grabs my hand tightly. "That's the thing though. You are." He says. I look at him and lean down to peck him on the cheek.

Just as I meet his cheek, he turns so our lips meet. I am too surprised to move away, and he pulls away.

"Why did you do that?" I say. He looks at me with a soft smile. "Because I love you."

I blink a couple of times before smiling big

I love you too
