• Updates / FAQs
I will be taking an indefinite hiatus soon to work on finishing Fallin' Hard. It's quite hard writing it off line, which is odd since I started off writing that way, but I definitely miss the opinions of my readers or "a" reader in general.
I'm not sure what's my most requested story, but I think it could be the Probabilities of Maybe, so I want to make an effort to update that one final time.
FAQs
Do you intend to finish your books on Wattpad?
At this point, this is a tricky question, I was talking with other Wattpad Stars about their experience once agented, and a Star said she only posted books she was writing for fun, and for me, I don't write for fun, I intend to publish my works. For now, Her Second Life is for fun, as I'm not sure it's a part of my Whitney D. Grandison brand, the Bright Side of Everything is an experiment, so those are ideas I'm freestyling. As for my older work, I'm unsure, but I think it will be best to finish as much as I can to at least have their drafts ready, as I don't want to just abandon Wattpad at this point.
When can I buy a copy of Playin' Hard?
I will keep all posted on if and when it's available and has landed a deal. For now, I can say that the published version shall read slightly different, there was a big change I'm sure most readers will like judging from comments.
Can you read my book and give me your opinion?
I'm not good with reading requests, mostly because I'm quite picky! I love YA POC romances, à la my love for Infamous by @catchingsunlight or this Bollywood romance I just started by @krazy_kiran. Between working and trying to write, I don't read that much due to lack of time, but when I do I'm just very specific on what I like and I simply haven't the time to break down and give someone a full criticism unfortunately
What about Arlington High? Are you posting more of those?
I never intended to write past book three. I can tell a LOT of people just read the first two books because they were tagged "interracial" (which I have since removed that tag) and I can say this because I continue to see a lot of people just read the first two books and add them to their "interracial" reading lists or whatever. The readership has fallen with each book, much like the drop off from Chasing Caterpillars to Memoirs of a Badass, writing a series is hard on Wattpad when you're not Popular, and for me, it can be quite frustrating. It really means a lot that people give a damn about the remaining three books even though they feature black couples or how A Lot Like Trouble features an Hispanic one, and I'm really sorry that I won't be writing any more because a) book four is supposed to be Jenaya + Troy and I'm struggling to piece that together, it'll probably be a novella of some sort, and b) I'm realllllllllllly thirsty to write A Lot Like Need about Tommy J and Aubrey but you know with my OCD about order I have to get through book four at some point and I don't want to force it out until I'm certain on what I want. For now I have cover ideas!
Are you writing more Knights books?
Next in that series would be Daze and Knights about Travis and Nandy's cousin, Melanie, and I have my basic plot, and much like with Fallin' Hard, I'm just insecure to write it because Summer Knights was sooo big and there is some pressure to measure up, I know for a fact that Fallin' Hard won't be as deep as Playin' Hard and that Daze and Knights won't be as deep as Summer Knights, they're both quite lighter as reads and I just don't want to phuck it up so to speak. So whenever I gain confidence I may post it
Are you writing the books about Troiann, Marcus, Chris and Michigan?
Absolutely! I am thinking Stayin' Hard will be a novella, and I have a cute/cheesy idea for it, and the more I develop it I see that Marcus was fronting the entire time in Playin' Hard lol. I even designed a little cover for the remaining books. As far as publishing goes, my agent pitched Playin' Hard as a series, so let us hope they all get picked up
Why do you post so many stories?
Because I like shooting myself in the foot and have NO self control when I fall in love with an idea 😭🙄
How do you overcome Writer's Block?
For me I'm BIG on making playlists for my books, I like to lay in bed and just listen to my book's playlist and write scenes in my head, usually this helps, or I'll read a book or watch a film or show for inspo. For books like Memoirs of a Badass if I'm at work and see a cute Asian couple, I think of Kiersey and Ioney or even listening to Korean music, and with my black characters I people watch and get character ideas in my head from there.
How did you get so many fans / views?
From what I'm seeing, it's a lot of word of mouth, a reader told me her sister or cousin named her baby Cree. So I guess people read my books and then tell their friends? This is always a hard question, I've been successful since my first year with Deceitful Intent's first version. One big thing I can say is to KEEP writing, build a profile and portfolio, write what you love and screw the rest, because for me, my main goal as a writer is to write someone's truth and something that matters, whether or not Playin' Hard does well in the publishing world isn't too huge of a deal for me, because soooo many black girls found themselves in Cree and that's all I can ask for. So in closing, dare to be you and write the truth 💜
