Chapter 4

Tennoji drives, and we head back to Ohi Warf, back to the crime scene to do interviews, and see if we missed anything. I keep quiet most of the ride, knowing if we talk, we will most likely argue.

After a half hour, we finally reach the Warf, and we park. We get out, and head towards the industrial section, thinking maybe one of the workers heard or saw something.

"Alright Red, just follow me, and do what I say, and don't get in my way."Tennoji says, as we walk, shooting me a glare.

I glare right back, meeting his gaze."Whatever elevator boy." I add smirking at him.

"Stop calling me that Red." he snaps, smirking at me.

I roll my eyes. "Fine Tiggy." I snap, grinning at him.

"Tiggy? What the fuck Red? Where did you... that's stupid." he stammers, getting slightly flustered.

I laugh."It suits you. If you don't know where it comes from figure it out."I say, grinning at him. Our conversation is cut off when we reach the workers.

We show our badges and start asking questions. Well, Tennoji does the interview, while I take notes.

"Did you notice anyone wandering around that didn't look like they belong that day?" Tennoji asks the guy in charge on site.

The worker shakes his head."No, didn't see anyone, just heard the explosion. Seemed sudden. Was in an abandoned section too."he says, after thinking a moment.

We kind of figured no one would remember seeing him... Though now that he mentions it, the explosion was in the more secluded part of the Warf, nothing was stored in the warehouses where he set off the explosion. Why blow up something with nothing in it? I add my thoughts to my notes, while Tennoji continues.

"Are there any materials on site that could be used to make a small explosion?" Tennoji asks.

The worker shrugs."Just the basics. A few stuff we use in construction, maybe some dynamite, but we don't carry much."he says.

Tennoji nods."Okay, thanks for your time." he tells him, and we move on to the next set of workers. We spend a few hours there, asking similar questions, and we get similar answers, really, all in all, getting nowhere, or finding nothing new.

We head back to the car and start the drive back to the station. "Well that didn't get us anything new."Tennoji grumbles, and I nod.

"Yes. Though they brought up an interesting point. The explosion was in an abandoned section. Why blow up something with nothing inside?" I say, thinking out loud.

I glance at him, and he raises an eyebrow at me."Yea. Ya got a point Red. Though I suppose they had their reason." he adds, nodding at me.

I shrug."Or maybe it was just practice. The guys in the lab thought it was homemade. So maybe this was practice, make sure the formula was right, before they go do the real thing." I add, looking out the window as I speak.

"Could be Red, could be. So why Tiggy?" he asks giving me an amused look.

I laugh."Well I figured you wouldn't like it, it didn't sound very manly. Though it's because of your baseball obsession" I add, smirking at him.

                  "Baseball?"he asks, looking at me.

I nod."You like the tigers right? Their mascot is a tiger, and I thought his name was Tiggy. If not, it still fits the general theme anyway." I add, laughing.

To my utter shock, he blushes slightly, grinning at me. "Yea I do love baseball Red." he adds, laughing.

"Yea, Eiki mentioned that. Plus in the elevator you said the tigers won. I don't know about winning the series though." I say, winking playfully.

"Tch. of course they will, there chances are really good this year."he says confidently, and I laugh. For once, we're having a normal conversation, without him being an ass.

"You're  forgetting they have to make it past the Yankees."I say, laughing.

He gives me a surprised look."You're a Yankees fan Red?"he asks.

I nod."Bet your ass Tiggy." I add, laughing.

He snorts."I'm just surprised you even follow baseball."

I roll my eyes."Why because I'm a girl?" I snap. Guess him being nice wouldn't last long, i think, frowning at the thought.

"Well, that, though I admit, you don't strike me as overly girly, but also because I heard football was a bigger deal than baseball in the states." he says, shrugging.

"Yea, well it kinda is, but I'm not a big fan of football, I always preferred baseball."I admit.

The radio in the car goes off. This is dispatch, any nearby units report to the apartment building on Osaka Ave. Explosion that caused fire.  I glance over at Tennoji, wondering if we're in the area. He glances at me. "We're close, grab the radio and respond Red."he says, making a quick right turn.

I grab the radio,"Dispatch, this is car twenty five, from second unit, responding, On route to apartment explosion." I say into the radio. Acknowledged. They respond via radio, as we head to the apartment building.

We pull up outside the apartment building, which is mostly engulfed in flames. A large group of people standing outside of it, a decent distance away. We go over to the group, whom are the tenants of the building. "Someone called the fire department right?" Tennoji asks, just in case. A woman speaks up.

"Yes we did. Though the nearest station is kinda far from here. There's a woman still trapped on the third floor though." She adds nervously, pointing to the building.

Tennoji starts walking towards the entrance of the building, and I run after him. "Tennoji what are you doing?"I yell, afraid that he's doing exactly what I think he's going to do.

He stops, turning to face me, with a determined look in his eye."I'm going in there. She's right, the fire station is kinda far. It'll take too long. We can't wait. I'll go in to get her."he says, his steel gray eyes meeting my brown ones.

"I'm coming with you then. We're partners." I say, meeting his intense gaze.

He shakes his head."Someone needs to tell the fire station when they get here what's going on. You wait here Red."

"We can have people out here tell them." I plead, not wanting him to go in alone, no matter how much of an asshole I think he is.

"Just stay here Red. It's easier." he says, running off. I sigh and walk back over by the group.

I notice a kid, well college age kid, holding up his phone, watching as the fire rages on. He shrinks back every time someone passes him, almost like he doesn't want to be noticed. I watch him, wanting to keep an eye on him. It's strange, to record a fire. If he lived here I don't think he would be doing that. He seems too jumpy too. I keep an eye on the kid, and another on the door to the building. Hoping to catch a glimpse of Tennoji. I hear the sirens pulling up, and my partner still isn't back yet.

I run over to a fireman, flash my badge, and explain what's going on."We arrived first, my partner went in for a woman trapped on the third floor." I say, looking towards the door once again. The fireman sends two men towards the door, and start putting out the fire. I finally see two figures by the doorway, and I sigh in relief. Tennoji takes the lady to the fireman, before running up to me.

"Hey Red. Don't look, but there's a young guy filming this on his phone." he says quietly, glancing around at our surroundings, but not towards the kid.

I nod."I already saw him. I've been keeping an eye on him. He gets jumpy when people walk by him too." I add.

"Okay. It seems kind of weird, so i think we should talk to him."he says, glancing toward the kid.

"Alright."I say, and we start walking towards the kid. "Excuse me, I'm detective Slaven, and this is my partner, we were wondering-" I start, and before I could even finish, he runs off. I look at Tennoji, and we both start running after him.
