Chapter 2

( Shayla's POV)

I stand there looking at them, biting the inside of my lip, waiting. When I first stood outside the door again after I cooled down, I wasn't exactly sure what I was going to say. Normally after everything they said, I wouldn't jump to try and make amends by re introducing myself. It was only when I heard Eiki defending me, outside the door, that I decided I should try harder to get along with them. I owed it to Eiki for standing up for me, and I also knew that like it or not, this was my new unit.

They all nodded, and I took the only empty seat left, between Asano, and Eiki. Which put me right across from Tennoji. I was touched at Eiki's words, though at the same time, it was just like him to try and include the misfit. When I first started at the academy, he was the first to approach me, and try to get to know me. Most were too scared to even talk to me then, I gave off bad vibes, and I was still so angry back then. Eiki never gave up on me though, and eventually I opened up to him. He was the first there that I told about my past and we were very close before he left for Japan.

I had always enjoyed working with him, and partnered up with him whenever I had the chance. Most might have misunderstood our bond as more than what it actually was. I admit he is handsome, and any girl would be lucky to have him, but my love for him was nothing more than that I would have for a brother. "So you were a sniper?" Asano asked quietly, bringing me back from my own thoughts of the past.

I nod, giving him a small smile."Yes, I was. I was very fond of practicing with the different weapons, and I learned Judo as well." I tell him quietly.

His eyeborws furrow at my answer, but he gives me a nod."I'm the sniper here. Judo huh?"

"Yes, though I like weapons, I'm a firm believer that you have to be able to function without them."

"Hmmm..." Asano mumbles, returning his attention to the rest of the group.

"A woman who likes weapons... interesting." Kyobashi chimes in, giving me a creepy smile.

I smirk. "Why do I get the feeling you mean that in a perverted way?"

He smiles."You're learning." he nods in approval, and I roll my eyes at him. Guess there had to be one pervert among the group.

"So you like weapons, can do Judo, know something about baseball, you're loud, and you like to swear, did I leave out anythin' miss no manners?" Tennoji cuts in, giving me a sarcastic grin.

I roll my eyes at the red head. "What are you, the profiler of the group?" I ask, raising an eyebrow in question.

"Actually that would be Hanai, he's the profiler." Eiki answers.

I nod."Now that you mention it, that makes more sense." I add, shrugging. So the arrogant one was the profiler.

"Those were just observations, miss no manners." Tennoji chimes in, again.

"Would you please stop calling me that?" I ask, trying not to snap, glaring at him.

"I'm sorry about earlier Slaven. I just naturally start profiling someone when I meet them." Hanai cuts in, and meets my gaze.

I nod, accepting his apology. "I'm sorry as well, I get a little touchy, when my past is brought up. Your words, though accurate, hit close to home." I tell him, giving him an apology of my own. "It's also your part of your job to do that, so I shouldn't have taken it so personally." I add, surprising myself, wow I actually apologized to him.

"A little touchy miss no manners? You bit his head off, and I believe the words 'arrogant bastard' were thrown around." Tennoji chimes in, his steel grey eyes meeting my brown ones.

I snort."I did use use those words. I have a very colorful vocabulary elevator boy. Please stop calling me that."

"Elevator boy? Then what am I supped to call you?" Tennoji asks, an amused look on his face, you can tell he's teasing, and I find myself giving him a small smile.

"I don't know, just not that. Most people use my last name, Slaven. Those that know me well call me Shayla, or Shay. Though here, I think only Eiki would refer to me like that." I add, smirking.

Before he can respond, we're interrupted by a sudden announcement. All Units Report to Ohi Warf. We suddenly hear over the intercom. Everyone jumps up, turning serious, all traces of teasing gone, and they actually look like cops. "Alright, everyone to the marina. Slaven, ride with Eiki, he knows how to get there." Kirisawa orders, and I follow the boys to the elevators, and we go downstairs to the garage. I follow Eiki to a car, getting in, as we all head towards what looks like the coast, or the docks.

"Thanks Eiki." I tell him quietly, not meeting his gaze. I knew I wasn't supposed to hear his speech about me, but I did, and I wanted to thank him.

"For what Shay?" he asks, using my old nickname, and I feel a smile pulling at my lips.

"For defending me. I caught your speech on my way back in." I tell him, laughing.

"No problem. I know they can be hard to get along with." he tells me, and I look over to find him blushing.

"Well thanks, and yea, but I suppose I'm not the easiest person to get along with either." I admit, shrugging.

He starts laughing. "Well yea. Though I kinda had my suspicions on who you would get along with, when I heard you were the one transferring." he adds, still laughing.

I raise an eyebrow at that."Really? I'm curious how that matched up with what actually happened back there."

He snorts."Well I was off on most of it. I suspected you might clash with Hanai, and Kyobashi, though both nice, they have strong personalities, coming off arrogant sometimes."

I nod, laughing."Well the pervert, and the profiler? Yea, I do clash with them. I took Hanai for arrogant, and Kyobashi rating me after five minutes made me automatically label him as a pervert."

He nods, smiling."Yea, those i figured. I thought you'd obviously get along with me, and probably Asano. You already knew me, and Asano, though quiet, gets the job done, and I could see you two bonding over your mutual love of weapons." he tells me. hmmm.

"Interesting. Asano hasn't said much to me, but he also didn't offend me. You, Kirisawa, and Asano, were tho only ones that didn't offend me right away. So I had no problem with any of you. I suppose I could try to go to the shooting range with Asano though, to try and be nice." I add, thoughtfully.

"You'd try to get to know him?" Eikki asks, sounding surprised at my offer.

I smile. "Yes. I felt I owed it to you, after you tried so hard to convince them to accept me, that I should try to get along with them. That, and like it or not, this is my new unit." I add, still smiling at him.

He snorts."I'm proud of you Shay."

I roll my eyes, and elbow him playfully."Oh shut up. I'm curious, did you think I would get along with Tennoji, and Kirisawa?" I add, looking at him.

"Kirisawa, is laid back, so I figured you would have no issues with him. I actually thought you might get along with Tennoji. You're alike actually. Though maybe too alike, and that's why you don't get along. Though he's blunt, he's good at what he does." he adds, as he navigates the streets, almost reaching our destination.

I scoff."Alike? The hell. I suppose I'll see if he's good, and yes, I picked up on the blunt. We're nothing alike." I add, growling.

Eiki laughs. "You're both loud, blunt, and good at what you do. You both swear like sailors, and have the tough thing going, but underneath, you're both nice. You both also have a mutual love of food and baseball, as well, though maybe different food and teams, but you both have a lot in common" he tells me, still laughing.

"Hmmmm." is my only answer, as Eiki parks the car. We get out, and head over to our group.

"Everyone split up, looking around, we got a tip, a possible bomb threat. We're not sure if it's true, but treat it like it is. Slaven, since you don't know the area, stay here, and pass along my orders to the other units. Keep a look out for suspicious people wandering in as well." Kirisawa orders, handing me a radio.

"Yes Sir." I nod, and watch as everyone else goes off in search of the bomb. Their mannerisms completely different from when they were messing around earlier. At least they know when to get serious, i think, smiling. I didn't expect that from them. It seems like when they need to buckle down and work hard, they do.

I pass along orders to the next two units that arrive, and keep an eye out for suspicious characters. A figure dressed in all black runs past me, and after a second I start running to follow them. I know he told me to stay there, but I'm sure this is the person we're looking for. I quickly pull out the radio, to let them know. "This is Slaven, possible perp heading towards the abandoned warehouses to the right of the entrance, heading east. I'm in pursuit." I tell them quickly, hoping he won't be too pissed I left my post.

"Acknowledged. Be careful Slaven, we're heading that way." Kirisawa answers, and I sigh in relief. I'm glad he's not pissed. I follow the perp to the side of the building, but when I turn the corner, I see no one. What the hell?

My arm is suddenly twisted behind me, and a hand covers my mouth. I bite the hand, but they keep a firm grip. Shit. The person picks me up, and takes me to a dark warehouse. He bounds my hands and legs, and starts to put a cloth over my mouth. Shit. I try to get a good look, but they have a cloth over their mouth, and are wearing sunglasses. Dammit, I can't even give a clear description. He takes out a small box, and it starts beeping, with numbers going down. He places it not that far from me, and my eyes widen. Shit, it's the bomb.

I immediately start wiggling, trying to undo the ropes he tied me with, to no avail. When I move, they get tighter. Shit. The perp starts running, out of the warehouse. Shit Shit Shit, is all I can think. How the hell am I going to get out of this? They have a general direction, but will they find me in time? The numbers reach zero, and the device beeps three times, then the beeping stops. I hear a loud boom, and it explodes, knocking me sideways, and I loose consciousness.

I don't know how much later, but I start to hear voices... am I dead? I try to blink my eyes, but they feel soo heavy, i can only keep them open a few minutes at a time...

"Slaven wake up!" I think it's Kirisawa... they found me...

"Shay please, wake up.. Shay.." Eiki's voice reaches me, sounding panicked.

My heads pounding, and my eyes don't want to stay open. My leg hurts, and I smell slight traces of gunpowder? What happened? I feel warm, why do I feel warm? I slowly force my eyes open, even though they want to stay closed. I look around, and the guys of the second unit are gathered around me. They all visibly relax at the sight of my eyes opening.. Were they actually worried about me?

"What happened?" I manage to ask but my throat hurts.

"The bomb went off Shay. You were right by it." Eiki tells me gently.

Oh that's right... the bomb..shit he got away. "Sorry, he got away." I croak out, my voice hoarse.

"It's okay. Glad you made it. You're lucky it was a small homemade bomb." Kirisawa tells me.

I suddenly realize why I'm so warm, is because someone is holding me in their arms. I'd been looking at everyone else, everyone except the person holding me. I glance around, realizing I don't see one person gathered around me, and I suddenly look up at the man holding me, my brown eyes meeting his dark steel gray ones. Tennoji? His eyes widen when I finally look at him, and they are the last thing I see before I pass out again, with the sound of an ambulance siren in the distance.
