01. midnight kisses

People were everywhere and Drew was anxious.

It was New Year's Eve and the cast of Outer Banks decided to spend it in New York before going to Charleston to film the second season of the show. They were currently heading out of the hotel so they could go to Times Square to see the ball drop at midnight but while everyone was cheering, Drew was quite overwhelmed to be in a place with so many people.

The thing is, he loves to party and be at a bar, but when he's in a place where everyone was cheering and screaming and bumping to each other, he felt anxious and only because he couldn't deal with all of that at the same time. So to say Drew was thrilled to be back at the hotel after the ball drop was an understatement.

    "Hey, you good?" Drew snapped out of his thoughts and soon looked at Madelyn, giving him a quick smile.

    "Yeah, just nervous." Drew shrugged.

    Madelyn nudged him. "Hey, we're here, it's going to be fine. If you really need to step out, tell us right away, okay?"

    Drew smiled and grabbed Madelyn shoulders, pushing her towards him. "Thank you, I appreciate it."

Madelyn smiled back and both continued to walk towards their destination, catching up with the rest of the cast. Drew was aware that everyone had an idea that he has problems with anxiety, even though he never actually told anyone about it, however, with Madelyn was a different story. One day, back in filming season one for Outer Banks, she went to Drew's trailer to call him for a scene when she caught him having a panic attack and helped him calm down, and since that day Drew knew he could always count on her.

He knew that he could trust her, so, as time went on, he felt more comfortable being with others, just knowing that she was always around and understood what he was going through.

    "Drew, do you want something to eat?" Madelyn asked beside him.

He looked properly at the scene in front of him and realised that everyone stopped beside a man who was selling hotdogs and other types of food in a mini-van.

    "No, I'm okay thank you." Drew spoke.

    "Man, you're not hungry?" Rudy looked at him weirdly. "We ate like 3 hours ago!"

Drew gave a short laugh. "No, man, I'm serious. I'm still full because of all the hamburgers."

    "True that." Madison nodded. "Those hamburgers were huge! I feel like throwing up."

Rudy looked at her dumbfounded and nodded his head in disappointment.

    "If you guys complain later, I'm not responsible for my actions."

    "Shut up, Rudy." Austin spoke and directed his attention to Drew. "And a drink? Beer?"

Well, Drew couldn't say no to that.

    "Sure!"

    "Anyone else?" Austin looked at the others.

Soon, everyone had the things they asked for. Drew, Austin, Jonathan and Madison had their beers in their hands, meanwhile Rudy, Chase and Madelyn had their hotdogs.

They all started to walk again, chatting among themselves and how excited they all were to exchanging the year in New York and also be back to filming for the second season of their show, considering that after Charleston, they were going to film in Barbados. They all couldn't wait to be in such a beautiful place.

Soon they all arrived at Times Square where a lot of people were already there, screaming and laughing, with their custom hats or glasses which said 2021, having the best time of their lives. The cast made themselves comfortable in that sea of people and turned around so they all were facing the ball.

    "This is sick!" Jonathan exclaimed, while driking his beer.

    "I can't believe we are here, I have to take a picture to send it to my mom." Chase said proudly, while pulling out his phone.

    Madelyn let out a chuckle. "Mamma boy".

Chase looked at her with his eyes semi closed, feeling offended, but soon laughed it off when Madelyn embraced him and gave him a kiss on his shoulder. Drew smiled at the scene in front of him, thinking how happy he was that Madelyn and Chase found each other. This made Drew think about how he misses being in a relationship, his last relationship was when he was in high school and that says a lot when he is currently twenty-seven.

Don't get him wrong, he tried to commit with two girls when he was twenty-one and twenty-three, but no success, since they weren't ready for a relationship just like Drew was. Since then, he gave up trying to find someone, when the right person comes, he will know. While he was on his thoughts, he failed to notice a group of four people aproaching and standing right beside him, chatting along themselves excitedly.

It was currently eleven thirty, Miley Cyrus just ended her show- and what a show! - and everyone was cheering and clapping. It then came later some presenters, announcing to the people that it was close to midnight and to everyone to be ready. At this, Drew whistled excitedly and Austin soon joined him, making some people doing the same as them.

    "My heart is going to explode." Jonathan spoke. "This is so exciting!"

    "This is the best day of my life." Madison said excitedly.

Drew only smiled at his friend's words and looked at the giant clock displaying nearly 10 seconds to midnight. Everyone around him started to count excitedly, shouting the seconds and grabbing their loved ones, Chase and Madelyn being one of those. However, while Drew was occupied in looking at the clock and shouting with his friends, he failed to notice a girl, who was beside him, approaching with only one thought on her mind.

She grabbed Drew's arm which made this one look behind him confused and stared at the girl in front of him who had a big smile on her face. She got closer to him and started to move her hands towards his face, making sure that he didn't back up and somehow Drew wasn't backing up away from this random girl. He let her get closer to him and he didn't know why he was letting her do this, he didn't know her from anywhere but somehow he was pulled into her.

It was only 1 second away to midnight when suddenly, the girl closed the space between both and kissed Drew, making this one utterly shocked. He felt everyone surrounding him cheering and welcoming the new year and somehow he couldn't stop thinking about the fact that he was kissing some random girl right at that moment. He kissed back the beautiful girl who was in front of him but as soon he did that, she backed away.

Both looked at each other absorving what just had happened, the girl smiling very brightly.

    "Happy New Year, handsome." she smirked.

And just like that, the girl turned around, went to her friends and left with them, leaving a speechless Drew behind. However, he wasn't the only one.

    "What a fuck, dude." Drew heard someone speak.

He turned around and saw all of his friends looking at him confused. He realised it was Rudy who spoke in behalf of all of them and saw how puzzled they all look, making him realise that they saw what just had happened. Drew didn't know what to say either, it was all very quick and his mind hasn't still processed everything yet.

He just knew that he kissed some random girl at midnight on New Year's.
