"Jesugbemi, are you sure you've carried your hostel requirements? Before that skinny woman start saying nonsense again this time. God knows I won't watch her insult me because of your clumsiness oh." Her mother asked and Gbemi ran back upstairs to carry the ghana must go bag that contained her hostel requirements.
Everytime, she wonders how her mum ended up with her dad because they are like two different people. Her dad rarely talked but you see her mum, she never gets tired of talking.
She was resuming today and she can't afford to forget anything. It's going to be after three months before she comes back home again. She made sure to confirm that her new skirts and shirts were inside her box and she covered them with her old ones.
After she made sure she has carried everything to the car, she went to her dad's study to say goodbye to him. She knocked twice before the door automatically opened. Gbemi looked around the room for the last time since she was going to be gone for a while.
"We are already leaving sir" Gbemi informed in a quiet voice, he looked at her outfit quizzically while she prayed he didn't notice she had slimfitted it.
"Esther, your check is looking tight oh or you've added weight." He commented and Gbemi just smiled nervously while hoping he didn't check the inside to see the one she held inside yesterday when everyone had gone for faith clinic and she was allowed to stay behind to prepare her things for school. She knew she wasn't going to achieve any of her goals with her clothes looking like onion sacks.
"Kneel down let's pray. Father in the mighty name of jesus. Your daughter is going back to school today and I pray you guide her and make her come best in her class. Keep away every form of distraction from her and make her the best among the bests" Her father started praying and she tuned out his voice. Minutes later, he ended the prayer and he opened his drawer.
He pulled out a brown envelope, no doubt containing her pocket money and she smiled.
"Esther, this is ten thousand naira. Give Mrs Johnson five thousand naira and give Aunty Bola three thousand naira for weekends then keep two thousand with you for important things. Don't squander your money and make sure you follow my instructions. I won't tell you what to do in school since you're a big girl now but remember the church youths are looking up to you and you are pastor Ilesanmi's daughter, you have to stand out every where you go to. Understood?" Gbemi nodded and she ran out of the office to the car.
"What took you so long or don't you know that there's going to be traffic on your school's road?" Her mom asked angrily and Gbemi rolled her eyes.
"Dad was praying for me" She replied and her mom hissed loudly.
"So he didn't know he should pray for you before you dressed up?" She asked and Gbemi rolled her eyes again. Her mum was probably going to ran t again till they got to school.
"Wo, boya you should go upstairs and ask him. Because I don't have answers to all this questions you're asking me" She replied and her mom threw her purse at her.
"Stupid girl, you will tell me whether I mentioned your name when I was talking. You better get into the car before we get to your school late oh" Her mom shouted and Gbemi banged the booth of the car shut after dropping her Bags.
"Mom, i told you I'm a big girl and i can go by myself but No you must follow me as if I'm not in SS2" She retorted and her mum hissed before driving the car out of the compound.
They were inside traffic before her mom turned to her.
"Gbemi, shebi it's SS2 you're resuming?" She nodded and her mom smiled.
"Gbemi, don't lie oh. Do you have any boyfriend in school?" Her mom asked wiggling her brows and Gbemi went red in embarrassment.
"No ma, besides Dad said having a boyfriend as a teen is very bad" She replied and her mum hissed.
"See ehn Gbemi, life's to be enjoyed and you won't be in secondary school for life. Don't mind your daddy, have fun in school but don't over do it" Her mom advised and Gbemi nodded her head slowly.
If only her mom knew that's what she wanted to do this time.
"Me and your dad started dating in secondary school, so let him be turning your head"
Gbemi was grateful as her mom drove into Brixton High School, it felt weird discussing boys with her mom. They are not even that close except when they give each other savage replies and he rmum is the president in that aspect.

Gbemi pulled her box towards her hostel and she groaned. It was irritating enough that she found herself in Moremi hall this year after the balloting online. Every year that she applied for Makama Bida hall, she always got it but this year things took a dark turn.
Emerald hostel was the most rugged hostel in BHS and there's always rumors about boys sleeping over in that hostel. Apart from breaking laws that Emerald girls were known for, they're known for their high level among BHS girls. They always got into plenty trouble too.
She watched as some girls rushed to help their friend carry her load inside the hostel while she pulled hers alone. She cursed herself for not socializing at all during her stay in BHS, she was crowned loner of her set twice on award night.
A soft smile adorned her face as she remembered her new year resolutions, she had faith that everything was going to come to pass and being in Emerald hostel had to be the first step to her goals. The sky was going to obey.
She checked her clearance paper to confirm her room number before she put it inside her check trouser. MH2 meaning Moremi Hall 2. She prayed hard that no SS3 student should be in her room and irritating juniors shouldn't be placed in her room.
She walked into MH2 and she was surprised to find out she's the first to come meaning, she gets to pick any locker of her choice plus bed space. She picked the bunk that's directly under the fan and the locker that's opposite it. SS2 is going to be fun.
