Chapter 7

***Serena's POV

"I can't believe you did that!" I hear the Professor scold as I slowly appoarch the kitchen. I hide in the doorway, and begin to eavesdrop.

"I did what I could to make it as easy as possible for Umberon! I reduced as much space as I could between all of us, and I didn't tell him to teleport us so close! He's as stubborn as a Spearow!"

Jason.

"That doesn't justify what you did! He's in critical condition! Not even Chansey's egg had much effect on him. We just have to hope that with help of the machines, and with time, he will feel better soon."

I can imagine Professor Oak folding his arms.

"I know Professor. It is my fault. I'm not saying it's not. But I owed it to her. She got hurt because I let it happen. Otherwise, I would have never done this."

Professor Oak sighs.

"Jason, you're eighteen and a very skilled trainer. You would think your reasoning would be a lot better with the experience you have! Especially after what happened between you and-"

I hear a chair squeak, followed with a thud.

"I know Professor! I know! I'm careless and stupid! But don't you dare bring that up, especially since we have bigger things to worry about than the past!"

Jason sighs, and I hear another thud and squeak.

"Anyways, how is the situation?"

"Nothing has changed, which is a good and bad. I will explain everything and my preferred plan of action when Serena comes out of hiding and joins us at the table."

I gasp, and I slowly come to the doorway.

Professor Oak is holding a cup of tea, smiling with warm eyes.

Jason, realizing I was there the whole time, shakes his head in disbelief and runs his hand through his hair.

"Would you like a cup of tea Serena?" Professor Oak asks as I sit down.

"Yes please."

I look over to Jason, and he avoids eye contact. He's staring towards the glass door that leads to the dark outdoors.

"Professor, where is-"

"She wanted to go out. I let her," Professor Oak interupts Jason mid sentence.

"Professor! You know-"

A girl with brown hair, and dark blue eyes wearing all black rushes in through the glass door.

She quickly closes the door behind her, and she puts her hands on her knees, catching her breath.

"Welcome back May. Would you like some tea?" Professor Oak asks, as he pours my cup.

Jason's face is so red, it looks like it might explode.

"Sure Professor," she says, sitting down across from me.

"Who are you?" She asks, her eyebrows bending in curiosity.

"My name is Serena." I say, reaching for a handshake. She accepts it.

"What brings you here?"

"I'm here to-"

"We're all here for the same reason." Jason chines in, quickly taking a deep breath. Professor Oak comes along, and gives May and I our tea. He sits down, putting a laptop on the table.

May glaces at me, then looks over to the computer.

What was that for?

I don't question it, because it seems like I'm finally going to get some answers.

"This is all the information I have at the moment. It may not be accurate, but this is what Jason and I have come up with."

Professor Oak pulls up a picture, with a man wearing a mask. A mask that seemed too familiar.

I gasp.

"This man has been seen in all the regions, and he seems to have been in search of something. We didn't know what it was. He kept popping up in different regions, searching. Until I realized that I should search in the year that he started appear if any major events had happened, and sure enough, this did," He said as he pressed the space bar. A flask with a black fluid, with purple sparkles appeared.

"Scientists exploring Mt. Moon found an abundance of this liquid. We have no idea where it came from or if it's man-made. But we do know one thing," He continues, as he pressed the space bar again. Both May and I jump back.

There's a mutated Jiggypuff on the screen. It's five times bigger and heavier than the average Jigglypuff, and it's pink fur has been replaced with black. The usually big cute eyes have been replaced with red, sickly blood-shot eyes, bearing broken and jagged teeth. Some of its teeth are red.

"It causes Pokemon to go savage. It turns all Pokemon into a blood-thirsty monsters that will kill anything in sight." Professor Oak frowns as he explains, his shoulders lowering a bit.

"The government quickly decided to collect all of it, and split it equally to all the gym leaders in Kanto for safe keeping, believing that was the best choice. But one of the scientists on the case, my grandson Gary Oak, disappeared."

"Professor, I'm so sorry," I say, putting my tea down. He simply looks at his computer.

"Shortly after, Ash Ketchum, while visiting here, disappeared as well, leaving-"

"A letter for me telling me to go find him!" May exclaims, getting up.

What?

"Hold on a second, I got a letter too!" I say, standing up as well. We both lock looks and just stare at each other in silence. Jason raises his eyebrow, clearly amused.

"Ladies. Please, sit down, there is still a lot you don't know," Professor Oak pleads, and we listen, not breaking from our staring contest.

Who does she think she is? She can't really think Ash wants her help! He wants mine!

"Anyways, earlier today, I found out there is a third person who disappeared, and that was Dawn, one of Ash's companions when he traveled in the Sinnoh region."

"What, Dawn is missing too?" May gasps, looking at the screen. I turn as well, and see a girl with blue hair, with a white beanie smiling with her Piplup.

"Now, we're assuming that all of these disappearances are connected in some way, but we don't know how. But we are sure that the masked-man has something to do with it." Professor Oak finishes explaining.

"I get it. We have theories. But how are we going to find out whether they're true or not?" I ask.

Jason clears his throat.

"We started planning to find out. Our first step was to get you two safe and under our protection to make sure nothing bad happens to you guys, since the letters are addressed to you two. Now, recently there has been rumors that Pewter City Gym is going to be attacked. Whether it's true or not, I don't know, but I do know this: if there is a connect to the masked-man and that liquid, he will come after it and attack the gyms for it at some point." Jason explains.

"So what you're saying is, we're going to Pewter City's Gym?" May asks.

"No. I am. You two are staying here."

"No!"

Both May and I jump from our seats.

How can he expect me to sit on the sidelines?

"I want to help Ash, not hide around to watch what happens! Besides, you already failed at that, didn't you! " I yell, crossing my arms.

Jason's face goes pale.

He sighs.

"Charizard can't carry more than two people."

"Don't worry me! I'll have my own way!" May yells with a smirk on her face. I just stare at her.

Jason rushes his fingers through his hair.

"Fine. We'll leave first thing tomorrow. Don't be late, or I will gladly leave without you."

I smile, and I run to get my things together.

Don't worry Ash, we'll be together soon enough.
