Chapter 8: America At Its Finest (Part 2)

Adrien POV

"When did it start raining?" Alya asked as we exited the school.

"I have no idea." Nino responded.

"It's raining cats and dogs!" Marinette complained as Percy and Annabeth stood back for a moment.

"This is just purrfect." I said sarcastically, just realizing that I made a cat pun.

Marinette turned to look at me. "W-what d-did you j-just say?" She stuttered.

"Uh.... This is just perfect?" I said, though it sounded like a question. "Why? Did it sound like something else?"

Marinette smiled nervously. "Nope! It sounded just like that!" Then we both awkwardly laughed.

"Well," Percy announced, producing three umbrellas. "It's a good thing that Annabeth grabbed these from Marinette's house this morning."

Annabeth passed me and Nino an umbrella as Percy popped his open. "Well, you guys coming?" Annabeth asked. "When we get there, Percy and I need you guys to taste test something."

"What?" Nino asked as Percy smirked.

"You'll see." He said, and Annabeth and Percy headed to the bakery without another word.

"Well, we better catch up. Come on Nino!" Alya said, grabbing the umbrella from Nino's hand, opening it, and dragging him along.

After a few moments of awkward silence, I opened the umbrella and said "I guess we should follow them."

"Yeah, you're probably right, not that you're never right or anything, it's just-" Marinette rambled on as I tuned her out and started laughing.

"Come on." I said, holding out my hand from under the umbrella.

All of a sudden, Marinette and I were both doubled over, laughing.

"This is almost like a repeat of last year!" I said, holding out the umbrella. "Should I take it, or should you?"

Marinette giggled. Then she pushed me back by my nose in a Ladybug-like way. "Nice try. You're going to carry it. I don't want to be stuck under that thing again!"

I laughed, ignoring what Marinette just did. Marinette can't be Ladybug, right? "Okay..."

By this point, everyone was in the bakery. Not even one second after we crossed the street, the umbrella collapsed on top of me and Marinette.

"Oh come on!" Marinette complained. "How does this happen twice in the course of one year!?"

"Hey, at least you're not alone." I said, laughing. "I just realized that this is the exact same umbrella that I gave you last year!"

Marinette rolled her eyes. "Can you just help me lift this thing up so we can see?"

"Right." Marinette and I lifted it up as we walked to the door. That's where we hit a snag. "Okay, so, you go out first, then keep it lifted so I can get out from under it."

"Sounds like a plan." Marinette said, ducking under the umbrella as she held it up. "Okay, go!"

I quickly escaped out from under it and closed it. "Go teamwork!"

"Pound it?" Marinette asked, holding out her fist.

I nodded. "Pound it!"

Marinette and I both fist bumped as we both froze. OMG! I'M BETRAYING M'LADY BECAUSE I DID OUR THING WITH ANOTHER PERSON! Okay Adrien, calm down. This isn't so bad.

"Um, wanna go in?" Marinette asked, breaking the silence.

"Yeah. Let's go." I said, noticing that Alya and Nino were crowded around a table.

"Delicious!" Alya exclaimed. "Who made these?"

"They're my mom recipe." Percy responded, then noticed us. "Hey guys, come and join in the tasting of American culture."

Annabeth walked down the stairs with a cookie sheet, a mound of blue up top. Annabeth noticed Alya and Nino, then sighed. "Alya, Nino, remember that those are for the rest of the class to! I can't keep baking them as fast as you guys are eating them!"

"Sorey!" Nino said. I'm guessing that he meant 'Sorry' but his mouth was so full of something that I couldn't understand.

Then Annabeth noticed me and Marinette. "Hey, come here. I want you guys to also taste test something."

Marinette and I walked forward as I looked at the blue things on the tray. Marinette picked one up. "Are these blue chocolate chip cookies?"

"They're Percy's mom's recipe." Annabeth explained, handing me one. It felt warm in my hand.

"Guys! You seriously have to try this!" Alya was jumping up and down.

"Yeah! Come on guys!" Nino begged.

"Um, I've never had a chocolate chip cookie before." I admitted as Percy looked shocked.

"Why is it blue?" Marinette asked, raising her hand.

"I'll explain it tonight because it's difficult to explain without drawing it out. Just try it." Annabeth promised.

Marinette hesitantly took a bite of the cookie and melted on a seat. "Oh my god! This is AMAZING!!!!!!!!!! ADRIEN! TAKE A BITE!"

"Why?"

"JUST DO IT!" Marinette, Alya, Nino, and Percy yelled as Annabeth sighed.

"Adrien, just try it before Percy forces it down your throat." Annabeth said.

"When you put it that way..." I took a bite of the cookie. It melted like warm butter in my mouth. It was a weird mixture of chocolate, cinnamon, sugar, and flour, mixed up in a buttery goodness. "Oh. My. God."

"Thoughts?" Annabeth asked as Mrs. Dupain-Cheng walked down with sandwiches.

"WOW! I NEVER KNEW FOOD COULD TASTE THAT GOOD!" I yelled, cheering. Marinette, Alya, and Nino joined me.

"Wow. What did you give them Annabeth?" Mrs. Dupain-Cheng asked, setting down the sandwiches.

"Chocolate chip cookies. Want to try one?" Annabeth held out the tray. Mrs. Dupain-Cheng took one of the cookies and ate it. She sighed.

"Annabeth, have you ever thought about being a baker when you grow up, because these cookies are delicious!" Mrs. Dupain-Cheng beamed.

"This isn't my recipe. This is Percy's mom's recipe. Good, right?"

Mrs. Dupain-Cheng nodded as she left the room.

"Ugh! I'm so tired! How much longer until school ends?" Percy complained between bites of his sandwich.

"A couple more hours Percy. The only difference between school here and school in America is that we get to go home for lunch." Annabeth explained, taking a bite of her sandwich.

"You mean you guys don't go home?" Alya asked.

"No, we do, just after school because we eat our lunch there."

"Well that's weird." Nino said as we all nodded in agreement.

"That's just America at its finest. Some people may not admit it, but Americans are weird. Like, really weird." Percy said, pouring a blue liquid into a glass.

"Yeah. We drink water with ice." Annabeth said, almost chocking on her sandwich because she was laughing. "We also dye our food weird colors."

"And apparently your drinks as well." Marinette pointed out.

"No, that's only me." Percy said as he noticed Alya trying to sneak another cookie. "Hey! We have to save the rest of those for class!"

Marinette and I shared a look. "Swiper no swiping!"

"Aw man!" Alya complained. "You guys are no fun!"

"Sure we are!" Then everyone started laughing. It's good to know that after being in school for a year that things don't change. If anything, now that Percy and Annabeth are here, our circle just got a little bit bigger. And I couldn't be happier.
